My Parents Are Trying To Ban Metal Music And Horror Films

Whats this horror movie called with a girl tortured in basement?

theres one scene i remember and it goes:
teen male is in his house and he's going downstairs into the basement (his mom is upstairs in the kitchen or s/t and there is heavy metal or screamo like music playing). the room is lit blue or blue hue/shade whatever (i think) and theres a naked or semi naked girl on a bed table thing. she looks like she's been tortured or raped but i think she's already dead and the guy is about to dispose of her in plastic? what movie is this???

I'm afraid my parents think I'm satanic?

So my mom and i are on the same Apple ID and I asked her if I could buy an iron maiden album to which she responded very meanly with "which iron maiden album" I wanted to by the number of the beast album but because she requested to see the album, I knew for sure I couldn't show her that. I showed her powers lave instead which she responded with a yes but very reluctantly. I talked to my dad who was sitting next to me and he said "maybe it isn't inappropriate for you anyways" I asked him what he meant and he said that because it talked about satan that my mom would never let me have it. I'm afraid they think I'm becoming satanic especially since they are such strong believers of God (I'm not a strong follower myself). I've noticed a different 'vibe' from my dad since I've talked about the album and now from my mom too. How do I show signs that I'm not satanic subliminally without having to start a conversation about it?

Am I a bad person if I love listening to Death Metal music?

Not if you’re disturbing the neighbors often! :P[Some trigger warnings: Taboo stuff, long answer]Liking Death Metal (gonna shorten to DM) means you have taken the step on your own with an open mind and you’re able to appreciate what the genre has to offer.Your religion isn’t affected nor does it make you a criminal (Extreme Music; not just Death Metal, often calms you down and lets you release emotions such as aggression in a somewhat passive manner. The only side effect may include head-banging and foot-tapping)Of course, Death Metal often deals with taboo issues and consists of some violent lyrics but there’s also the fact that lyrics are often not the cusp of most DM songs, it’s usually the virtuosity of the instruments which are essential. That's one of the reasons why extreme music genres such as Mathcore, Technical/Progressive DM, and Progressive Metal are the hardest to approach for someone who’s unknown to the Metal genre as a whole. Screaming/Growling vocals and weird time signatures are also a huge turnoff for many. :/Speaking of taboo issues, most of the death metal songs are in fact against them. Living Monstrosity by Death (Old School DM / Tech DM) deals with the pain crack babies have to face. Flesh And The Power It Holds by the same band is more or less a poem that deals with the negatives of worldly pleasures. Gojira (a Technical Death / Progressive Metal band) more or less deals with… Environmental issues.Of course, most DM and it’s subgenres do in fact, deal it death, gore, violence, war; the negative facets of the world as they’re. It’s up to you which band you follow and which you don’t.As for me? I generally have my headphones on while listening to any kind of music so as to not disturb anyone, especially not when my sister’s flying chappals hit harder than the most savage DM riffs. My family knows well of my Metalhead-edness, and I often make my mother listen to some songs which are a pretty cool feeling as she was the one who introduced me to “western music.” They understand and respect the fact that at the end of the day it’s just music, if it’s anything wrong, they let me know. So far they haven’t said anything.P.S: Death’s late frontman Chuck Schuldiner had an awesome mother who trusted his son to the fullest and let him be. Here’s an interview, read up!

Why do most parents dislike death metal?

Heavy/Death Metal is very dark, angry and primal. While it resonates with you where you are now, it does worry us as as parents as to why you are attracted to it.  You hear differently and things resonate with you differently than it does with us.  We have been there with different music.  We see it as an expression of anger and frustration and we don't understand where it comes from.  Don't worry, our parents worried about our music too.  We are drawn to intense feelings at different times in our lives.  Music is an outlet.I do have a funny story as a parent to share though.  We lived in a nice, family neighborhood, that we worked very hard to provide for our kids.  One day, I watched a video made by the kids from the neighborhood.  It was a film with gangster music in the background.  Their getaway car was their Mom's SUV, the housekeeper walked through the background of their "crib" with a basket of laundry, the glasses they "drank" from was antique Wayerford crystal, the camera used to film this was was a Christmas gift...as was the computer to edit the film.  I had a very hard time not laughing through the showing.  I think this skit has been done on SNL's Wayne's World. I am terribly sorry, but if you are playing music about how messed up your life is when last week you danced to Disney, parents get a bit confused and roll their eyes a bit. People who love and support you have a hard time buying into the drama. On another note, some Heavy/Death Metal is pretty good if you like drums and heavy bass, as I learned to appreciate from my son, who is a drummer.  I guess our question is, are you sending a message, or enjoying the art?

What are some anime series you could watch with your parents?

I've just been getting into anime recently. I'm 20 and a guy. My parents don't really know what anime is, but a lot of my friends like it. I was just thinking of ways I could maybe get my parents to give it a chance.

My parents always played video games with me, and even though I live with my mom, my dad still has a few older systems he bought for his house, which he plays even when I'm not there. Sometimes I can get my mom to play a game with me still. So my parents aren't that old-fashioned or close-minded over things.

I think I'd have a better shot at getting my dad to watch anime with me. My mom might try but does tend to brush things off as "stupid" or just ask why if she doesn't like them. My dad grew up watching Speed Racer and owns all the episodes on DVD - talk about retro anime. He also liked watching Pokemon with me when I was kid. But, I don't think he really knows what anime is. Speed Racer was more seen as just a cartoon, and Pokemon is something lots and lots of American kids watched.

I'd want something a bit more mature than Pokemon, to where it wouldn't just be seen as "childish," but of course, I don't want something that's too "mature" if you know what I mean. Dubs would probably be necessary. My mom would NEVER have the patience to watch something in a foreign language with English subs, and my dad would definitely be more comfortable with English voice acting.

I've only watched a few things so far. I could maybe see my mom liking Ghost Hunt. My dad might be all right with Fullmetal Alchemist. Of course, I can't be sure. I know my mom would think the more action-y ones are stupid. I loved Welcome to the N.H.K., but that was pretty "inappropriate." I haven't watched that many series. What is there that has a [good] English dub, that isn't specifically for children and could interest someone in their 40s, but isn't so inappropriate (sexually inappropriate, especially) it would be awkward to watch with your parents? Anything? Thanks!

Should death metal get banned forever?

If people choose to listen to death metal (or any kind of music)
its completely their god-given choice, to ban it would be ridiculous. People will always murder and commit suicide, for one reason or another, but getting rid of death metal would only make people more mad. Its like saying we need to ban cigarettes, its not healthy to smoke but people would go nuts if you actually made it illegal.

Death metal can have a negative influence on kids, or people in general really, but its not some sort of mind changing drug, its a form of entertainment, as weird as it may seem to many of us who arent familiar with it.

Are all metal bands satanic?

A friend of mine invited me to a metal concert. Her brother works at the venue so he gave her a couple tickets and she asked me to go.

I heard that all metal bands are satanic and blasphemous etc. but I didn't really believe that but I wasn't sure. I really don't feel comfortable listening to music like that.

Are all metal bands satanic? If only some are, which ones?

Love "Classical Gas", looking for similar music!?

Just recently "discovered" the song Classical Gas by Mason Williams. I have always been a fan of acoustic guitar, and would like to find other songs like this one. Preferably straight instrumental (no vocals) and upbeat.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks in advance!
