My Puppy Doesnt Like Being On A Leash .

Is it ok to drag a dog on a leash when it doesnt want to walk?

My 8 month old pit pup doesnt like to go on walks, hes scared even though he has had tons of socialization. I normally have to drag him for the first 2 minutes or so and then he walks fine the rest of the walk. Does this hurt him to drag him? He wears a nylon collar, he pulls too much with a harness. He does choke when I drag him but I dont feel bad because he could just walk himself and if he doesnt get exercise my stuff gets chewed up. He has a very thick neck, hes about 65 pounds. So its not like hes fragile.

How do I train my puppy to walk on a leash?

Don't ever pull your dog on the the leash, the leash should be used for leading and discipline only. Short little pops on the leash is the motion you are looking for, just to jolk him out of his distraction.

With the dog on your left side, Hold the end of the leash in your right hand and grab the part near to the dog with your left hand. Your left hand should be holding the leash about 1-2 feet directly above the dogs head, with the collar high up on the dogs neck. (It's very hard to bite the leash in this position and the higher up on the neck you are the less likely you are to hurt the dog.) No slack, but hold it very gently so the dog feels that it is somewhat loose. The dog should stay to your left, close to you, and not walk so far ahead that his butt is in front of you. Stand straight up with confidence, don't slouch.

If the dog pulls or wanders say "no" and pull the leash upwards quickly then release it quickly. Don't get the dog into a pulling contest, and don't pull in a direction other than up. Just pull directly upwards and release quickly while you say "NO". Never pull hard enough to lift the dogs front legs off the ground!

It's ok if he pulls a little during the walk, just correct the biggest mistakes with a quick jerk upward then release. Eventually after several days the dog will stop pulling.

Why doesn't my dog run away when off leash?

Yes, some dogs are naturally more "loyal" than others. Some dogs are just more adventurous. Also, when you get a puppy, you become the mother. You are a safe place, so she wants to stay near you. It just depends on the dog. When I first got my Pom (he was 4 years old) I kept him on leash. One day he slipped out of his collar on a walk but just stood there. He wouldn't go more than five feet away from me. My friend got a White Shepherd a while back. When she was a puppy she wouldn't go away from my friend for a second, even outside on walks.

What to do about my puppy pulling hard on the leash during walks?

She is around 7 months GSD/Rottweiler and walks too fast, goes berserk with squirrels, and gets very agitated with birds, cats, people running by. And she will suddenly get bursts of energy for unknown reasons. Is there anything besides a choke collar? I don't want to hurt her.

My puppy whines and barks unless she'd being held?? please help?

ONLY 3 hours! too long.
wants attention and is scared probably
how long has she been barking for ?
she probably doesnt like being shut up in her crate and tied up on her leash.
my dog used to bark when she was in her crate so we stopped putting her in it and she was fine. she got distressed being in a confined space she prefers being able to walk around a room and sleep when she is left alone.
have you taken her to any training classes? that would be a good idea. you will see many improvements in her behaviour straight away and it is worth it in the long term as well. how long have you had her for? if she is only just getting used to your mum's puppy it is normal that they fight. they will just take time to adjust.
you'll just have to be patient probably. it all sounds like fairly normal behaviour for a puppy. good luck :)
