What can I do if a dentist broke my tooth?

First of all, what were the circumstance? was it negligence and the dentist really break your tooth accidentally during treatment? Or was it a known risk of whatever procedure that the tooth might break? Or did the tooth break after you left the office and you bit into something and the tooth broke (and the last person who touched the tooth, the dentist, is at fault). It could be anything. You are likely upset and distraught. Blaming doesn't fix problems….the tooth is broken, it’s very unfortunat, but it is what it is.Finding a solution to fix the problem through discussion with the dentist to find a viable treatment plan is probably the approach a sane, reasonable person would take. If it truly is the dentist at fault and they take ownership of it, they will probaby have no problems paying to fix the tooth by either themselves or by someone else.Fortunately in dentistry, things are frequently fixable. If the broken tooth is not restorable, an implant can be placed. If you truly suspect the dentist to be negligent with either lack of knowledge or skill and performing treatment beyond their ability such that it is below standard of care and feel obligated to protect the public, you can file a complaint with the dental college licensing body. Please note that filing a complaint with the dental college does not mean you can get compensation - the dental college is for protecting the public and regulating its members.Good luck with your tooth.

Could your gums grow over a broken tooth?

Is this an adult tooth or baby tooth?

It sounds like your tooth broke down due to decay, leaving the root behind. The gum will start to cover over the root, but this takes time and is -not- helpful. The root that's left is still decaying and may well lead to a painful infection. You should really go to a dentist as soon as possible to have it looked at (and probably extracted, although if you prefer to keep the tooth the dentist could possible insert a post and build the tooth back up with a crown).

The longer you leave it, the more the gum will grow over it - this will make it more difficult to have it removed or root treated.

All the best!

I’m 17 and I broke my tooth. Will it grow again?

Dear Quora User,We have 2 sets of dentition.First one being the Primary Dentition (Milk Teeth). These teeth start erupting at the age of 6 months. Permanent teeth starts erupting at the age of 6–7 years.By the age of 13–14 years you have complete set of teeth in your mouth except Third Molar (Wisdom tooth)As you have mentioned you mentioned you are 17, so you don’t have any chance to get back your broken tooth naturally. Broken tooth and facial numbness?

well ,i can understand.

but you didnt tell which tooth is involved (incisor,canine,premolar,molar)----which tooth?

since the teeth is grossly decayed it would have lost its strength ans structure and CRIPPLED NOW.

do you have pain now? in relation to that teeth.

is your face is numb or mouth is numb?
facial numbness can be generalised or localised also

in your case i think numbness is localised and it is DUE TO COMPRESSION OF the tooth root or abcess on the nerve.

until appropriate treatment is done, this numbness will not go.

if you have swelling, infection take antibiotics and only pain, take analgesics.get it treated
good luck

My tooth has broken off but the root is still intact. what would happen if i don't get it removed?

There is an opening down the middle of the root called a root canal. Once that root canal is exposed to your oral cavity due to your tooth breaking apart, germs can get in.

Once germs get in, you will get an abscess at the bottom of the tooth root (where the root canal goes to), and it will infect and rot a hole in your jawbone there, and cause serious problems.

Get it taken care of as soon as possible.

My tooth broke, theres a deep hole in my gums now?

So maybe about a month or two ago, my temporary filling fell out and now there's a hole in my gum. Its my top right back molar.. number 3. There's a deep hole in my gum now, and every now and then it starts to bleed. Not like profusely, but I can taste blood. And the blood seems to be coming from the very bottom of the hole..not the sides or anything. It doesn't hurt at all when I touch it, its not sensitive to hot, cold, or air. I know I need to get the rest of the tooth extracted out, but I'm curious why its bleeding.
