Any good names for a fictional city?

I'm writing a novel and I can't think of a name for a city and what state it should be in. This city is close to the forest and it is very cloudy there. It doesn't rain a lot. It does take place in the USA. Any suggestions?

I need a name for a fictional city?

Well, you've got Hurrany, (which makes me think of Hurray or hurry on) Escea - (Escape by sea) and Ilia (is an actual religious name - means 'the Lord is my God').

Bymont (By the mountain) bucolic setting.
Merewold (Mere - lake, wold - wood) for a peaceful city.
Helmford (helm - military connotation & ford - a crossing) for a defensive, well guarded city.

Naming the city really depends what social characteristic you want the city to have, and you haven't mentioned any.

Alternatively, try a fantasy city name generator

Refuge / Sanctuary;

Hayvon (Safe haven)
Asylin - (asylum)
Serenil or Serendi (Serenity)

Naming a fictional city?

To keep it completely fictional, I would avoid derivatives of known places. To show seriousness in your work, I would avoid the typical miss-spellings, or the unimaginative. To make it more authentic, use of the common suffixes such as chester, firth, borough, wiche and field can be used.
Such as:

Cloverchester - so named for the surrounding clover fields that have fed the local livestock and/or woodland creatures. in your city.

Kingsfirth - means woodland of the king

Maidenborough - named for the Maiden Queen in your ancestral line.

Konungswiche - Konung is old Norse for king, wiche means settlement or place - hence, Konungwiche would mean "settlement of the kings"

Hope this helps!

What's a good name for a fictional city?

Depends what the city is like, take a careful look at it. Is it abandoned and gloomy? Or is it the perfect city, all happy and carefree? Or even, take a look at the residents there. Maybe take some inspiration from them. Or you can even look at real city names for ideas. (Don't steal though!)

What are some good names for a fictional modern city?

When it comes to naming your own fictional cities or locations I always tend to using foreign languages and even sometimes names of deities from our civilization (Egyptian) or maybe similar civilizations (Babylon, Persian, Assyrian…etc)So here are some suggestions that might suit the ambiance of your city:Aleyat: High in Arabic.Omran: Means construction in Arabic.Azdehar: Prosperity in Arabic.Bonyan: Means buildings in Arabic.Sahab: Means clouds in Arabic.Sama: Sky in Arabic.Nahda: Renaissance in Arabic.Taylan: Means “High” in Greek.Alissa: The Protector of Humanity.Tarja: Owner of Goodness.Hydrous: God of Water. That’s all I could come up with now, best of luck!

Name for a fictional small town?

I'm writing a story that involves a fictional town. It's really small and rural, and everyone knows everyone, basically. There is a very large lake and it's far away from the city, but you can still see the city lights just over the horizon of the lake. It's a beachy but also foresty kind of place, if you get what I mean, and I don't want to use a real place for it. Any ideas?
