What is the stronger superpower: the manipulation and generation of darkness and shadows, or electricity and lightning with all of their subclasses?
To answer this question, I will retell a story during a session of the tabletop RPG Vampire: The Masquerade that I was part in.Here, we find me, a friend, and a couple of NPCs in a car on a stakeout. I am a Tremere; think of them as Vampire Wizards. My particular Tremere can do flame-y things with this hands (Vampires hate flames; I can set them on fire). My friend is a Ventrue, who is useless for this scene because they’re really “businessmen” Vampires and he took this to eleven by being a social-fu (social combat) expert. The NPCs are all Tremeres of a lower rank than me (I’m their field commander here).In the middle of the stakeout, the Storyteller tells us that we hear a tap on the roof of the car. We turn to the direction of the sound, roll the window down, and see before us a smiling Lasombra casually asking in pleasant tones what the eff a carload of Camarilla were doing in Sabbat territory.A Lasombra is a Vampire who can control shadows. They are Sabbat, sworn enemies of the Camarilla Clans, of which the Tremere and Ventrue are two of.And we were in a darkened car (obviously at night).I wanted to burn him. My friend the Ventrue, who was of a higher rank than me (I was the chief lieutenant of the Primogen of Manila’s Tremere; he was Seneschal of the Prince of Manila), ordered my flunkies to hold me down while he negotiated with the Lasombra.Me: Player to Player! Dude, LET ME BURN HIM.Friend: ARE YOU KIDDING ME?! We’re in Sabbat territory unannounced, in a DARKENED car, with a LASOMBRA outside our window! The very shadows could be moving even as we speak!*Both of us looks at our Storyteller*Storyteller: *smiles* Yep. You guessed it.Lightning is powerful. But it is a physical force that can do physical damage. Lightning can also be speed, of course, like the way the Flashes of DC represent themselves and the Speed Force.But Darkness is everywhere. It smothers everything. It can even be more powerful than light, which cannot escape its pull (well, it’s actually gravity but allow me some artistic license here, haha)Tremere can wield lightning. Ours is the power of Thaumaturgy, or blood magic. Using the cursed blood of the Children of Cain, we can cause powerful spell-like effects.But, at that moment, I could throw whatever lightning I can at that Lasombra and he’d just continue smiling while the shadows in our car crushed us. Or ate us.I think he can command them to eat us.

If you are starting to run a superbeing game (online or tabletop) or write fiction about superbeings, you owe it to yourself to go out ans buy a copy of Mutants and Masterminds (about $50) as soon as you possibly can. This list does not cover everything, but almost! And somethings are in categories, like 'Permeate' (= walk thru walls), and 'Wall Crawling' are both part of the Power: "Super Movement". And the system contains a number of incredible Power Modifiers to make each choice of the same power nearly unique. I can't praise it enough!!!
(Marvel) mutant power levels?
Omega-level mutant is a fictional designation for a certain powerful class of super-powered individuals in the Marvel Comics universe to indicate mutants with the ability (or potential) to exist beyond the boundaries of physical existence. Immortality is also a possibility, but not a requirement. Being able to control matter and energy on the sub-molecular scale also seems to be a requirement. Psylocke was originally presented as a telepath in x-men but the character was eventually written as unexplainedly possessing telekinesis Jubilee had the superhuman power to generate "fireworks" of explosive plasma Gambit possesses the ability to manipulate kinetic energy, as well as a hypnotic charm. He is also skilled in card-throwing, hand-to-hand combat, and the use of a staff.Also in stealing/thieving Arclight has redirected her rage into bodybuilding, which she uses to augment her mutant powers. Her mutant ability enables her to create shockwaves through physical contact, usually combined with her super strength in form of punches and blows. During a few of her appearances she has been shown to project a bright light upon impact of her hands.
