Need Help Now Biology Help

I need help with my biology home work like now...how can transposons alter gene expression?

Transposons are the "jumping genes" that cut and paste out of genomes. The cutting part is not exact, and can actually take some "extras" out of a genome. If a transposon jumps into the middle of a gene, it can alter it. On the other hand, if there was a transposon already in the gene, and it gets cut out, the transposon can actually take parts of the gene. This leads to a shorter gene after the transposon leaves.

Biology question need help now!?

It would gradualy grow because of the population it started out with

Ecosystem biology need help now!!!?

1)
Lake temperatures will increase, but dissolved oxygen in the water will decrease.
2)
beach erosion to the unprotected coastline
3)
a loss of biodiversity due to human activity
4)
migrating bird populations and the carry capacities of local animal species
5)
The pollutants will disrupt oxygen absorption in fish, it will kill some but not all marine mammals!
6)
It will preserve biodiversity for future generations.
7)
Building a Fence would do the trick to keep the coyotes out, since their population has increased dramatically there is likely more competition for food resources for each pack. Cattle are not part of their natural diet, letting them continue to have free meals could cause even more disruption irregularities to their population.
8)
The most important thing is determining the species currently on the land if any, if they are endangered as well as what sort of impact this could cause on the surrounding ecosystem. Plant, animal, and marine species inhabitants that were in large numbers could be potentially harmed from building the park, e.g. you don’t want to build the park right on top of a condor resting area.
9)
Marine reserves and Fishery reserves / regulation of commercial fishing by making licensing even stricter.

Biology! Plants Biology! help me plz?

Root Hairs: small projections (or roots, i guess you know what roots are) that grow on main roots, or secondary or tertiary roots.

Endodermis: The inner layer of the plant cell. It comes after ectodermis which is the outer plant cell layer. Normally complete layer of barrel shaped cells. try google TS plant cell.

Xylem, Phloem: conductive tissues. help conduct the nutrients to different parts of plant cell. Xylem: it transports the raw materials while phloem transpors the prepared food material.

hope this helps :)

Biology questions.Need help now!!?

well i think most of these are opinion questions myself but oh well
1) the genetic code is a basic structure of rules that can be changed and manipulated in millions of ways (variations). it's universal because every living thing can be traced back to this simple set up of basic DNA
(to a certain extent)

2)i would pick something basic usually a fruit fly. being able to manipulate it in controlled setting and see what traits are dominate or recessive or what happens when you mate them and also study them for there characteristics and the purpose of there physical attributes

3) yes i think so because i would like to know if I'm eating cloned meat, or genetically modified wheat etc. it might be harmful to me, because it's not naturally occurring plant

4) you wouldn't hire an employee that is always using or is on the health care plan that is supplied by the company if you knew they had a expensive disease or illness (costly). The company would see and think of the employee as being a cost instead of a profit, plus you would have more sick days (not as efficient as a healthy person) so ya because of the cost issue and liability they wouldn't hire a person if they knew. plus most companies and employers ask or have you do a a physical before or right after your hired

hope that helped the ball start rolling good luck

Biology-- genes- due right now please help?

here are a few true false that i really need help with:

1.The gene for ABO blood type encodes an enzyme that adds sugar molecules to lipids on the surface of red blood cells.
2. Once a mistake is made in DNA it will stay there forever.
3. If the sequence of one strand of DNA is CATTACGGG, then the complementary strand would be GTAATGCCC.
4. The genetic code is universal, the same in practically all organisms.
5. Small interfering RNAs can alter gene expression by targeting mRNA for destruction or by blocking translation of a mRNA.

Do biology majors need to learn Latin?

In so much that Latin majors will be learning/using Latin words or words based on Latin - sometimes called Neo-Latin, yes they are learning Latin words, but not Latin itself. I don't think Bio majors are "required" to learn Latin. I've known plenty of excellent Biology teachers who have admitted never spending a day learning Latin as a language. Think about how many colleges which offer biology degrees that don't even offer Latin as a foreign language.  Those universities could not require a course they do not offer. Although you may be able to take Latin as a foreign language, and yes it may help you learn binomial nomenclature, I doubt taking it is a requirement.  My advice: I would find an online course catalogue at your favorite university and look at the prerequisites for the Biology majors there. Finally, I advise you not to take Latin unless you are genuinely interested in learning it for its own sake.
