Need To Find A Musical With One Main Female Role And Several Smaller Parts Fit For A Highschool.

Seniority when casting a highschool play or musical?

the purpose of casting is to provide the best actor in each role in order to ensure a quality performance. seniority has nothing to do with that.

In the musical Hairspray, which part is bigger: Penny Pingleton or Amber VonTussle?

i'm auditioning for this musical soon and i need to figure out what song from the score i should sing ( one that the character sings). i fit both parts, so which part is bigger? and for that person, which song from the musical should i sing? thanks so much!<3

I was casted in a school play but only got a small part. Is it ok that I feel upset?

I'm a sophomore in high school, and have never tried acting before this year. There were two plays and 20 boy parts. I got in the play I wanted but its a really small part with hardly any lines. I'm really happy that I got in the play but feel a bit upset because I don't have a bigger role. I also feel like I had a great audition. Do I have a small role because I'm a pretty good actor (or at least have potential) but have no experience? Or do they tend to give the bigger roles to seniors and juniors? Thank you for you feedback!

Are there any broadway musicals with big mezzo/alto parts?

Thoroughly Modern Millie
Funny Girl (not as popular, but still fun!)
Wicked
You're a Good Man Charlie Brown
Annie Get Your Gun
Babes in Arms (mostly)
Flower Drum Song
Gypsy
Into the Woods (some roles)
Mamma Mia! (some roles)
Once Upon a Mattress
Seussical
South Pacific
Wonderful Town

that's probably a lot more than you wanted and i'm sure some won't fit what you want, but i just wanted to give you lots of options! this site has a lot of good info: http://www.musicaltheatreaudition.com/

Are these musical theatre schools any good??

Well, there are many options when you are considering college musical theatre schools. In most musical theatre schools, you will get the training in every area you need- dance, theatre and voice. You will constantly be attending performances, rehearsals, lessons, etc. If you want to major or minor in any other area, it may be tough, because these programs can be very restrictive and time consuming in your curriculum. Also, if you feel like you excel in, say, acting, you would have a tough time getting your dance and voice skills up because you will be constantly taking classes in all three areas, and you may not get time to take extra dance and voice classes. That said, some good musical theatre schools are: Shenandoah, Carnegie Mellon, Elon, Boston Conservatory, NYU, Emerson, Baldwin-Wallace etc (you can find more information on these schools, and see other schools, along with advice on getting into these schools here: http://talk.collegeconfidential.com/musical-theater-major/ )

Any musical theatre school will be good enough to get you on Broadway. It's you who has to stick with the training, stay with the desire, and remember that when you audition, you will get 100 No's before you get that one Yes. No matter what, you have to stick with it, because getting on Broadway can sometimes be luck over talent (Many actors have been cast in a role just because they fit the costume of whomever they are replacing.) Be nice to everyone you meet, because the business is smaller than you think, and your reputation can sometimes reach casting directors ahead of you. You CAN do this, just stick with it. That's the main thing to remember.
During college: Take voice and dance lessons, take theatre classes, audition for every performance you can (including shows that aren't on campus, but in theatres around your school), and see as many shows as you can.

That said, you don't have to go to school for musical theatre to be on Broadway. You can major in Acting, Voice, Dance, or even minor in these with a different major, if you feel like one of these are something you are best at. Also, there are many Broadway performers who haven't even majored or minored in any of these, and got their degrees in something else. The main thing to remember, if you choose this route, is to practice, practice, practice.

A good one-act play for high school theatre?

Noises Off!- a very funny comedy.

High School social structure....?

We don't really have groups, it is what it is that day.
