New Tank For Bearded Dragon

How do you setup a tank for your bearded dragon?

First make sure that it's the appropriate size for your dragon. Next I would select a substrate, this can be confusing even after lots of research online you'll probably end up more confused than when you started. My suggestion would be to use:Paper towel - although not the most attractive it is very easy to keep the enclosure clean.Reptile carpet - again easy to clean as it is washable, however I find the fraying annoying.Tiles - a non slippery tile can be used and is easy to clean. Has the added benefit of keeping their claws trimmed too. I usually put at least a square in for this reason.Bearded dragons love to climb so I'd consider putting sometging in there for them to climb up on.Then it's just the heating lamp. Place on one side of the tank ensuring that the other side is slightly cooler. The exact temperatures can be found online easy enough.Decorate the tank how you wish from there although I have a feeling they don't like clutter.Hope this helps

Why does my bearded dragon not like his new tank?

I have just put my Bearded dragon into his new tank which is not that much bigger than his old one only really in height. But he does not seem to like it. He keeps jumping off his basking rock and head butting the glass. Trying to get out. all the stuff from his old tank are in his new one, as i wanted as much to be normal for him as poss. Will he get used to it or could he fully refuse to settle in??

How do i get my bearded dragon viv/tank hotter?

Have heat mostly on one side of the tank, and not the other. They need a spot to cool off a bit, as other reptiles do......

Do bearded dragons like to be handled?

Wow, I expected a lot different answers than what has actually been posted on this question. No, Beardies do not have to mental capability to “love” being held by you. Will Beardies stay on their owners because they “do not get enough heat”? Sometimes. My Beardies stay on me for up to an hour before running. And, they show no signs of stress. However, if the room they’re in is cold they’ll probably stay on your skin to stay warm. It doesn’t mean they’re unhealthy, it CAN mean they would just like to STAY warm.My Beardies have a mercury vapor bulbs at a 12 inch distance. This is adequate heat, and UVB exposure. They’re all healthy as can be, beautiful and active. Do they get stressed out, and hate when we handle them?Hell no.My male, Poseidon, who is the best eater, and arguably the healthiest. NEVER leaves my side. When I put him on the floor to run away, he runs back to me. Climbs up my leg, them up to my shoulder and under my jaw.So, do they like being handled? No, but most of them don’t have it either. They will usually show signs of stress if they don’t. Mine do not. Most of mine recognize their names, recognized my wife and I, and I truly do believe they find comfort in us. They show signs of finding comfort in us. Meaning they do not let other people touch them under the beard, feed them, hold them, etc. So, this is my experience, and I think a few of mine recognize I’m home, I’m their provider, and, as much as they actually can, love me.So, you have the freedom to interpret these answers accordingly, I just wanted to share my experience of 10+ years with these amazing animals. They’re such a joy to keep, and you will love keeping them as much as they love having you.Happy Keeping:)

What is the standard tank size for a bearded dragon?

For an adult, the smallest should be a 30 gallon. A 20 gallon terrarium is okay for young dragons, but once they’re over 18 months, they should have something bigger. Standard? I would say that the 30 gallon is probably it. That’s what most people on the different bearded dragon boards and forums have. Now, if you really want your beardie to be happy, then you would probably want to build a custom vivarium. The ones I use are 4′ x 2′ x 2′ high. This is still small, I think. The next one I build will be 5 feet long, giving an extra foot to each lizard.

How long does it take for a bearded dragon to get used to a new cage/tank?

I put my bearded dragon in a newer bigger tank because the old one was getting too small, so I was wondering how long does it take for a bearded dragon to get used to a new tank? And when can I start handling my bearded dragon? Someone answer PLEASE!!!! Thank You.

Why does my bearded dragon claw at the tank?

I got him a new tank 90 galon... The temp and humidity are right.. He seems to gravitate towards the warmer side and digs and claws at one corner.. (that side is facing a window) he does this franticly almost all day for about 4 days now and I can't figure it out??
I've let him out to run around and he goes strait for the outside window.. though it is cold he presses himself against it..?
Also seems to enjoy proping himself up and standing on his back legs, haha.. strange guy.. anyway,
any ideas??

Can you home a bearded baby dragon in a 55 gallon tank?

That would be far from ideal. If it’s outside, heavy sun could warm it enough to cook the poor thing and it would have nowhere to go to cool down. It’s also not going to get a lot of light in there. I guess if you flipped it on it’s side, cut it in half like a BBQ, made an acrylic panel to fit over the hole, then installed a basking lamp at one end and ventilation holes throughout, and kept it indoors.Reptiles need a gradient of temperatures available, from cool to basking warmth, so they can choose for themselves where to go for how warm they want to be.

New baby bearded dragon won't eat or move?

well like you know he needs time to get use to all the different surroundings and smells so it may take a little time for him to get use. however it don't sound very healthy if hes dragging himself around. its good that hes pooped. just don't worry as reptiles can go a while with out food. keep trying him with things and see how he does.

maybe the items of food are too big? temperature in the tank is incorrect? cool end? there are many things like these you need to think about before thinking anything is serious
