ok well i always keep getting nosebleeds. the last time i got one was about may 2nd, and that was because i had a viral infection and i kept blowing my nose. however i keep getting them (especially in the winter) and ive been putting vaseline in it and i dont get them but i think that i might. every single day i get scared im going to get one. a nose speicalist said that my septum was crooked and also said that the blood vessels in my nose r too close to each other. when i look into my nose with a flashlight, it is usually red and right now i can kind of see a blood vessel. none of the doctors told me to get my surgory on my septum but i dont kno y. i am young i am not a teen quite yet but how old do u have to be to get it straightened out and i am wondering does it hurt? and also i dont think cautization is right because i heard u can get a hole in ur nose.

I used to get nosebleeds a lot as a child. You're actually not supposed to hold your head up. It doesn't stop the bleeding, it just makes the blood run down your throat (which can make you sick) and into your sinuses (making it worse). You should lean forward slightly instead. Applying ice might also help. Do you sleep with your face in the pillow? Or you might be having trouble breathing in general while you sleep. A lack of oxygen is one of the major reasons why people get nose bleeds at night. Make sure you are sleeping on your back for the next couple nights, and keep your head elevated. Another reason nosebleeds occur is because of the nose being dry. You can try putting a vaporizer without any vicks or anything in it, to add humidified air to your room and keep the nose damp, or some people even put some a&d ointment on a q-tip and rub it around in their nose. If the nosebleeds continue happening, you need to see a doctor, as there is something wrong.

You need to have your primary care doc refer you to an allergist. He will do testing to determine exactly what you might be allergic to that could be causing these symptoms. This is his specialty and he has knowledge that your primary care doc doesn't. Until you can get to the allergist, you can do something about your nosebleeds. When one occurs, sit down, tilt your head back, and apply an ice pack or pack of frozen veggies to the BACK of your neck. This is where the blood originates. You have two large blood vessels running up your neck to your head. The ice on the back of the neck will help constrict these blood vessels to help stop the flow of blood from your nose. DO NOT put the ice on your nose. That is not where the blood is originating. Also, DO NOT blow your nose hard while the bleeding is occuring and for a period of time after the bleeding stops.
