How do I get the best price on a used car?

Be informed.Be aware of the actual market value. I can't tell you how many people I've seen walk away from a car I had for 6k below value because I refused to give them another $100 off, and then went and bought a car at value or near, just because they were given 2k off the already high price.How much of a discount you can negotiate means NOTHING.ALL THAT MATTERS IS ACTUAL VALUE.Value is what effects insurance, insurance payout, loan approvals, whether the negative equity traps you in the car, and resale.If a car is priced 4k over value, and they give you a 4k discount, that is still 4k WORSE of a deal than if a car is advertised at 4k below value, and they refuse to budge a dime.To inform yourself on value, the quick and easy solution is to consult Official Kelley Blue Book New Car and Used Car Prices and Values, or the app they have.If you want to be better informed, use multiple sources including blackbook and New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviewsand New Cars, Used Cars, Car Reviews and Pricing  etc.AND importantly, actually compare the car to other similar cars in your local market.A great, if not the best negotiating tactic is to show them an add for a similar car priced for less, and tell them if they don't match it, you are on your way to check that one out.And if you want THEIR specific car for some reason (its a color or equipment or engine combination you like) don't admit that.

How to get an invoice for the original price of a vehicle?

You can go to edmunds.com and build the car. It will give you the invoice including destination. It also shows how much each individual options costs and how it effects both the MSRP as well as the invoice. There are sometimes regional advertising fees which are added to certain invoices depending on where the dealership is located, however you would not know the fee unless the dealership shows you.

Keep in mind that depending on how hot the car is selling will reflect on how much profit a dealer will look for on the sale. Even showing them the invoice does not guarantee they would sell it there. I hope this helps and you can email me if you have questions.

How can I find the original MSRP of a used car?

I need to know in order to get an estimate of registration costs. I've looked online at kbb, autotrader, and edmunds, but all I can find is what the car would be worth now,. It's really frustrating not being able to find what i want, so does anyone know where I can go to find out?

Why do car dealers sell used cars in much higher price?

When you're done with your vehicle, you bring it to a car dealership to trade it out for the newer ride you prefer now. Happens every TWO YEARS, on average. So the car dealership pays off your loan, which generally is with more than the car, then they have to perform any maintenance you might have missed, neglected, or simply hadn't quite come due yet. Then they have to touch up your dings, dents, and blemishes. Then they have to clean the interior, including carpet. Then they have to pay to advertise the car. Then they have to pay the salesmen who work for them. In return for all that, someone gets a safe, clean, not-as-expensive-as-brand-new car for, perhaps, a smidge more than it's worth in black book terms.Have heart, though.Many lenders will only finance up to 120% - 140% (depending on credit) of the value of a car. So dealerships are limited to the amount of money they can make off any one car. And, if you have particularly gnarly credit, the margin diminishes significantly because lenders will often charge a fee to the dealership that the dealership cannot, by law, pass to the consumer, just for the risk involved with financing this particular client.Dealerships do reasonably well, but the majority of their money is generated from finance and, thanks to incentive programs, new car.Used cars have the greatest profit in finance, though, because a huge portion of used car consumers have less than stellar credit and end up paying upwards of 18% interest.

What should I do right after buying a used car?

Well, you should’ve already done a full vehicle inspection before purchasing the car, which would’ve helped negotiate a fair price for the condition of the vehicle or flagged any MUST HAVE repairs.Now’s the time to get any of those repairs done. Get the car running 100%.Establish a base-line maintenance schedule. Wait until the odometer reaches a xx5,000 or xx0,000, and make this your oil change schedule. If your used car is approaching 75k, this is your starting point. Change the oil at 75k, 80k, 85k, 90k etc. This makes it easier to remember. Practice the same religion for filters, plugs, tire rotation etc. Filters should be every 30k, plugs every 60k, tire rotations every 15k.Top off or flush/bleed any fluids I didn’t mention. Brake fluid and Coolant should be your top priority. Check for any slow leaks of greasy/wet coatings running under your car. Check your CV boots and brake/tire life.Have the car professionally detailed. Your driver’s seat is covered in someone else’s ass sweat. The floor is covered in boogers and the car is littered with someone else’s filth. This is YOUR car, now, it deserves your filth and no one else’sConsider fixing nuisances and adding your personal touch. It’s a used car, if you have a cracked cup holder or water in the tail light, you can scavenge a used one from a junk yard for $5.00. Throw in a nice new cell phone charger, a sun shade, maybe even a tool kit or new floor mats.Make sure everything is there, like the owner’s manual, spare tire, jack, wrenches, etc. Check the pressure and condition of the spare. Again, this is all stuff you can get cheap at a U-Pull-It yard, and it’s best not to get caught in the rain to realize the OEM jack is missing.Detail the engine bay, remove leaves, oil splotches, and brush/tighten those corroded battery terminals. Replace any cracked parts, reservoirs, or caps/covers. Look for worn gaskets that might leak oil.

Math question? Used car??? Easy 10 points?

Call the original price X.

The first price reduction of 10% means it was selling for 90% of the original price.

The second price reduction of 20% off the first markdown means it was selling for 80% of the first markdown.

The third price reduction of 25% off the second sale price means it was selling for 75% of the second sale price and was sold for $3240.

The equation is: (0.90)(0.80)(0.75)X = 3240.
0.54X = 3240. Divide both sides by 0.54.
X = $6,000 the original price. Answer.

To check your answer:
Multiply $6000 by (0.90) which is 90% = $5400.
Multiply $5400 by (0.80) = $4320.
Multiply $4320 by (0.75) = $3240. Checks OK.

Having a new door replaced on car, will the paint color match?

Hello all,
So my 1999 clk320 benz was recently hit and I am now going through insurance to have my vehicle fixed. The passenger door needs to be replaced. My question is when having a new door replace and painted, will the paint color match the rest of the car? I really don't want one "blinging" new shinny door.The cars original color is a metalic silver. Since the car is 10 yrs old with the original paint do you think it will stand out? If so from your experience do you think insurance will pay to have the whole car repainted to match correctly.
This whole situation makes me pretty upset. It was hit by a drunk driver and luckily everyone is safe but I have been so careful to not get even so much of a scratch on my car and now this:(
Thanks for your input...
