Now That The Military Says Climate Change Is A Great Threat Does That Mean Its No Longer

The Pentagon warns in a dire new report that due to climate change rising seas could inundate coastal U.S. military bases and wildfires could endanger inland ones. Do you think that US Congress will act based on this report?

Ever since I started reading climate change material, I have become convinced it is political and financial propaganda.I will clarify by saying that I don’t mean that the climate is not changing, but that the causes and actual changes are being used as political tools and are seemingly exaggerated.Lets take a look at the Bloomberg article linked to this question (Pentagon Warns of Dire Risk to Bases, Troops From Climate Change). The first thing that jumps out to me, as an amateur propaganda watcher, is that they don’t attach the actual Pentagon report, which is pretty sloppy for a professional news service who wrote a whole article on it. Or, more likely, they wanted to make it less available to readers.A one minute Google search later - here ya go: https://media.defense.gov/2019/J...Now, the article is entitled “Pentagon Warns of Dire Risk to Bases, Troops From Climate Change”.“Dire Risk”…So the Bloomberg article brings one solid example of climate change:“U.S. military facilities are already encountering some of the effects, the Pentagon says, noting that Joint Base Langley-Eustis in Virginia has experienced 14 inches of sea-level rise since 1930. ”“Dire Risk”…Upon briefly reviewing the article, it seems to be a common sense document saying that bases who are near water need to be designed for flood risk, and those in drought areas need to be designed for fire risk.No warning of dire threats…ANGLESThe Pentagon is asking for money. The Democrats are using the report to bash Trump. The reality?14 inch sea level rise in one location since 1930.Nothing about reducing emissions or urgent measures…

Why did the us military "soften" the training regime?

Listen Im an Army vet Infantry 5 years. I went in in 2002, by buddy graduated Infantry school last year. From what he says they got a lot better and realistic traing than I did. Everyone says their basic training was harder than the next generation. The WW2 guys told the Nam guys that, the guys from the 80's told the guys in the 90s that, and the guys in the 90s told us that. A lot of the hazing is gone, but now with less hazing soldiers can concentrate on more important things, like stuff that will save your life. The Army I left was different than the one I joined. In as little as 5 years there was a lot of changes and for the good. Less college fraternity style bull**** and more practical training. Chris has a point what do shined boots and starched BDUs have to do with combat. The BDU was meant not to be starched, starch affect the breathability of the fabric, which leads to overheating. But NCO Sgt Jerkmeoff likes them pressed, so you press em and get an IV stuck in you for heat exhaustion. Se bull****
Full Metal Jacket was a movie. My Uncle was USMC Infantry in Nam and he says he NEVER saw a D.I. hit a recruit. They don't have to, they can make your life miserable in a lot more creative ways.
By the way as far as other countries go, the French Foreign Legion does Interpol background checks now (or at least they did back in March of 99) and some armies let their soldiers wear long hair (Holland).

Why do Americans hate/fear the dreaded 'socialism'?

They cannot both exist in the same country at the same time.

One is not exactly better than the other, but socialist countries usually don't work too well.

One of the things Americans generally believe in is hard work. Socialism takes away people's motivation because it really doesn't matter if you work hard or not; either way, the government would take care of you. Plus, the government is in too much control in socialist countries.

I will give you an example. Some people on Welfare and government assistance really DO need help. I mean, we all go through hard times. But there are many people on Welfare who are not motivated at all, and continue to not work and not do anything because why should they? They're getting taken care of.

I really don't buy the excuse of "I can't get a job". What they mean is, "I can't get a high paying job that I like".

Well, not everyone is going to find a high paying job that they like, actually the majority don't.

I now am college educated, and do have a nice job, but while struggling to get my degree, I worked at factories, fast food, making $6.50 to $7.00 an hour. There is no excuse. People can get jobs, they just choose not to.

When will the Republican party understand the harm that are doing in climate change?

The evidence of the damage caused by climate change so far is impossible to deny with a straight face. For example, here is a picture of Miami on a sunny day. No storm surge, no rain, just sea level rise. The evidence of the danger that catastrophic damage that climate change will cause in the future, even the near future, is growing and has already reached a point where it would scare any sane person. For example,Sea level rise gets new alarming projections from NOAAOne of the scariest effects of climate change might already be happening — and it'd mean our projections are way offKeep global warming under 1.5C or 'quarter of planet could become arid'Failing phytoplankton, failing oxygen: Global warming disaster could suffocate life on planet EarthClimate Change: Plants Choke on too Much CarbonDangerous climate tipping point is ‘about a century ahead of schedule’ warns scientistIn a US military threat assessment, the military experts ranked climate change as the second greatest threat to the survival of the US, second only to global nuclear war. The February threat assessment report by the US Intelligence community (issued under Trump, BTW), repeatedly mentions global warming and climate change as major threats to our national security (https://www.intelligence.senate....). This alone totally shoot down the claims that global warming is a hoax. These people have zero economic incentive to exaggerate global warming. They benefit financially form saying that terrorists or foreign powers are the greatest threat. And they are certainly not a bunch of liberals out to “destroy America.”So how can Republicans continue to stall, even reverse, the actions that will slow down these disasters? Only a few explanations come to mind. They simply do not care what happens to America or the rest of the world beyond their terms in office. They get all their information from Fox news. They have decided to willfully delude themselves into thinking that somehow, it will all work out as long as they give enough tax breaks to the richest 1%.

Is Russia right about the fact that the USA is the biggest threat to humanity?

Russia is wrong. About most everything. Putin is an ex-KGB operator who wants the Soviet Union - version 2 - which killed millions under its rule has no moral perch from which to squawk from. Any nation who wants to remain a nation has blood on its hands, while some 21st century nobility might be transmitted to your forefathers for being more dedicated that you are (we are) about defending their nation and its interests - the sad fact that neither the man who invades nor the defender who defends is wrong. Not intrinsically. Were the allies supposed to stop at the German border. The USA has kept the relative peace since WWII. I say relative because we haven't had a world war since then. We have had some regional conflicts, but those pale in comparison and if I recall right - more people will killed in the battle of Stalingrad than in the entire Vietnam and Korean conflicts on BOTH sides. But numbers of the dead are lost against arguments against misanthropic people. There is a class of people, a whole school of thought that the USA should not be involved outside its borders - like before WWI or WWII. So that WWIII can be allowed to happen so that we can once again get sucked into the world after its already at war. This is a stupid proposition and deadly for millions. It serves no moral purpose other than virtue signaling misanthropes who most often concurrently spout environmentalism which again kills people to get its due. Yes malaria I am looking at you - DDT would have ended it.The USA is at the center of an empire right now and as far as I can tell its the best one that has ever been. The best behaved I should say. The last great Empire was the British Empire which waned in the 20th century and whose last great accomplishment was stomping out slavery. The US also helped out with this even if we were 40 years late to the engagement. Russia has no right to talk if you want to have a nobility dance off. Russia does what it can to interfere with US operations and interest. They are still headed by men who hail from the cold war era where US gain is USSR loss. As long as they look at the world that way - I would expect that rhetoric out of them.
