Numb Side / Sharp Pain

Why does teeth feel numb after sharp chest pain in right side?

Well My family and I just started eating Mc.Donalds at the table, then all of a sudden I had to drop my drink, push into my chest and bend over. I couldn't breath, and after a few seconds everything was fine.
I had gone to the doctor a few months ago because my left side was hurting when I walked long distances and they said I had Pleauracy. Everything was fine for a bit and then all of a sudden I get a fiery pain that shoots down and spreads when I sneeze and then this. Keep in mind I'm only 14.

So what could it be?

Thanks,
Josh Ferguson

Why do I have lower back pain and numbness on the left side and middle back pain and numb on the right side?

I started going to a chiropractor 6 weeks ago for back pain that began suddenly and without explanation, and have been going the chiropractor twice a week since then. My pain originated in my upper back and was exacerbated by stress and tension. In addition to the chiropractor appoints, I've also been getting massages about 1-2 times a week. The upper back pain has mostly gone, but right when it left, the lower back pain began on my left side. The majority of the pain goes as far down as the middle of my butt, but I can feel slight pulling down toward my knee even. This pain has been going on about two weeks despite massages, chiropractic adjustments, prescription muscle relaxors, and prescription anti-inflammatory medication. Several days ago my middle back started hurting on the right side, also.

Here is the oddest part: At times when my back hurts the most (usually in the evenings and when I'm trying to fall asleep), it is also numb to touch. Not only can I apply very heavy pressure on the sore areas without any pain or feeling, but I can even dig my fingernails in to my back without feeling it. I suppose this sounds like a nerve problem, but I have no idea what sort of nerve problem could have caused my pain to "migrate" to different places on my back.
I'm desperate for help. Like I've said, I've had this problem for many weeks, despite my appoints with my general practitioner, my massage therapist, and my chiropractor. While everyone is very eager to help me, nothing is making a dramatic difference (including heat, ice, and even a "massaging" heating pad).
I would be so grateful for anyone who is knowledgeable in this area and could help me figure out what is wrong.

Sharp chest pains, blurred vision, numb arms, etc.?

First -- Any angina, or 'stabbing chest pains' , are imperative to be checked out by a physician. If she won't go to the ER (very expensive) then pool your money, or whatever you have to do, and bring her to a walk in clinic. The doctor can do a routine cursory exam, and if her symptoms based on the examination add up then further testing will be done -- if not it may be ruled anxiety, etc. (Yes it can happen).

With all her symptoms it is either Anxiety .. ie: Panic attacks which cause all of this and more -- Heart issues (yes at her age).. which is the seriousness of this.. or something like a pinched nerve in her spinal column which is radiating pain from the nerve around to the chest, and causing arms to go numb.

However, the blacking out vision, breathing issues, numbness, and stabbing pain are alarming -- that is a deadly combination of symptoms no matter who you are. Again, keep in mind it very well can be a benign reason.. ie: Anxiety -- but it needs to be checked.

If she is having cardiac attacks/problems then the vision would be explained by insufficient oxygen supply to the brain, (similar to passing out due to too many G's in a fighter jet),.. the Stabbing pain would be explained by angina, or lack of oxygen to the heart.

These could happen in short intervals due to heart arrhythmia's -- which are irregular rhythms or beating patterns of the heart. Severe arrythmias can be fatal at any time, because they can cause the heart to basically quiver and never get a proper pattern going.. which allows blood to pool and oxygen to not pump around the body.

I have a feeling this isn't a heart condition,.. but it needs to be examined. She shouldn't be scared to see a doctor -- a simply EKG (painless) and fast.. can help rule in or out this condition with a simple listen of the hearts sinus rhythm via stethoscope.

Again, while this may be anxiety -- you need to convince her to see a doctor. The ER would be great as they have the equipment on hand to monitor the heart extensively -- and they see anxiety related cases daily.. trust me. On the other hand, if it is a problem with her heart rhythm, etc.. is it worth it to gamble ?

Take care,

How do you sleep on your side without shoulder pain or numbness?

I cannot help answering even though I have no confidence that this would help. I am quite interested in finding out how one person’s sleep pattern can be [1] so different from other persons [2] different every night, yet might have some consistent patterns [3] can or cannot be changed successfully by design [4] even if successfully changed by design, how would one know without video recording ?I am relatively lucky that I did not have any complaint about my sleep, only noticing in the past 3 years that I seemed to prefer to sleep on my left side with arms straight down [they call it ‘log’ style] that it seems to put me to sleep faster and easier; yet I usually awake finding myself on my back. So, now you see why I have these questions on top.The ‘applicable’ part to your question is —- I would think that when sleeping on my side made my shoulder or neck uncomfortable, I naturally turned to make that better .. not an unreasonable assumption, right ? Will never know without monitoring, right ?This is where one might ask, could your sleep be so deep [presumably better ?] that you do not even feel the numbness to get you to try change your sleep position ? only to find out after awake that your shoulder is numb ? Does that make your sleep better than mine ?Google search generated a lot of advices and sites such as WebMD, yet most of them seem to have people going to sleep and come out of it in the same sleep position, making my sleep an outlier ? How do they know that they did not change when the shoulder goes numb, thus consequently they changed, then changed back ?I do feel that physical objects to help steer sleep positions should make significant differences, such as deterrence to change positions mid-sleep, but if you feel it and makes you sleep experience worse, then that would not work either, right ?I just feel that this is such an under-researched topic, and because it could be so personal and no consensus among our population , it will be a long time for sufferers to get true and useful answers ..

Sharp left chest pain and numbness in left pinky/ring finger?

I started a new job recently and am sitting for 8-9 hours per day. Recently I started feeling sharp pain on the left side of my chest every so often throughout the day. It would happen at random times and be unpredictable. The pain wasn't very intense but it was definitely uncomfortable. One night I was out with friends and it happened a few times in an hour (thought it was my heart) and I sought medical attention at the hospital. I had an EKG done, x-ray, and blood test. Everything looked good according to the ER doctor and I was sent home. The EKG was done when I wasn't experiencing any discomfort. However, my heart was monitored for the duration of my hospital visit and everything appeared normal.

The sharp chest pain still continues from time to time and I woke up the other day with numbness in my left pinky and ring finger. I'm not sure what to do at this point because my test results at the hospital were normal. One thing I have noticed is that I feel the need to crack my upper back fairly often at work (probably due to bad posture). I'm starting to think the left chest pain could be correlated to my upper back and that I should see a physical therapist or chiropractor. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks!

My left side has been going numb lately, any ideas what might be causing it?

What part of your left side ? Is it face , hands or legs ? Numbness can means a lot. It means that something about your nerves is not normal. Do you have any medical history in the past ? Do you always on office chair and typing on key oard? Do you exercises a lot ?

The right side of my body has been faintly numb and tingly for the past two days. Should I be concerned?

As with many things in medicine statistically it is likely nothing.  Such symptoms are common in medicine...BUT there are things that could be serious.  They are less likely but do occur.  Unfortunately, the only wise answer is to see a physician and have it checked. Common causes: anxiety, idiopathic (means: we don't know and never find anything), stress.  Less common but worth checking: thyroid, Vitamin B12 levels, Serum protein electrophoresis, Connective tissue work up (ESR, CRP, ANA, Anti-DNA, C3, C4 etc), VDRL (yes, VDRL), Fasting glucose and/or HgbA1c.  Might as well check Na, K, Ca, Mg, Creatinine, ALT, AST, Alk Phos, Serum Protein Electrophoresis. Even less likely UNLESS you are in a risk group: stroke, myocardial infarction (Heart attack), Multiple sclerosis, brain tumor, migraine or migraine phenomena, vascular insufficiency (eg emboli). Conditions that should not affect an upper and lower limb: Carpal tunnel syndrome, sciatica and sciatica equivalents at other nerve root levels.  I'm sure there are some I've missed.  See your physician - err on the side of caution.

Numbness in left side of head/face?

You shouldn't be seeing you chiropractor for any sort of illness other than bone pain since they are not doctors. Numbness in your face and localized to one side of your body is signalling to me a Central Nervous System (CNS) disorder. You are most likely getting numbness in your face because of a disruption in your Facial Nerve (CN VII). Here's some things it could be:

1. Acoustic Neuroma
This is a brain tumor, which can cause facial numbness. Have you having trouble hearing? Having vertigo or other balance problems? Pressure in the ear? Piercing in the ear? This are all symptoms of this condition.

2. Bell Palsy
This is caused by brain tumors, strokes, etc.

3. Diabetes
This can cause numbness along with excessive thirst, increased urination, blurred vision, slow healing time for cuts and sores, and unexplained weight loss.

4. Shingles
This can be eliminated because generally the rash appears in 1-2days after the numbness develops.

5. Vitamin Deficiency
I doubt this, but it is a suggestion.

6. Multiple Sclerosis
You may be in early stages

7. Lyme Disease

8. Lupus

What you have is scientifically called Mononeuropathy of the cranial facial nerve (VII). Look it up and find more out. There are alot of conditions that might cause facial numbness, all of which are serious. I would suggest going to your doctor ASAP. Whatever it is, you'll want to catch it early. Hope this helps!

Fevers off and on, abdomanal pain, left side numbness....help!!?

Could be he has another kidney stone. It can block the ureter and not let urine into the bladder. A stone can cause a lot of pain and the body's reasction could be the fever. Also he could have a bladder infection. He should get a urine test done. A virus cannot be killed with antibiotics. Sometimes you just have to wait for the virus to pass. You can treat the symptoms with motrin and tylenol. Drinking plenty of water will help keep him hydrated and kidneys flushed. He may have the problem with being dehydrated that is why it is difficult to pee.
