Old Childhood Christmas Movie

What are some must-see old-time Christmas movies to watch this season?

If you have Turner Classic Movies, the following are must-sees:Remember the Night (1940) - the most romantic comedy-drama on the list, starring Fred MacMurray and Barbara Stanwyck four years before they paired with Double Indemnity, with a Preston Sturges script. Very funny at places, very romantic in others, and ends honorably. The Holly And the Ivy (1952) - this is a serious post-war drama that is powerful in its depiction of an Anglican vicar’s home, and is a rarity showing in the U.S. Catch it to see a young Denholm Elliot, who later grew up to assist Indiana Jones in a few films. It Happened on Fifth Avenue (1947) - a very funny romantic comedy centered around a homeless person who moves into an empty mansion for the holidays. Hijinks ensue.Holiday Inn (1942) - Charming, funny, and breathtaking. Its only sour note is the “Abraham” sequence, which, to its credit, services the plot. But other than that, this is the movie that helped define what Christmas means to today’s popular culture. The Man Who Came To Dinner (1942) - this is my favorite Christmas movie! Still funny after many many multiple viewings. Still endlessly quotable. Still nerve-wrackingly chaotic. When you think it’s run out of air, they bring in Jimmy Durante, who demonstrates he had the chops to go toe-to-toe with Steve Martin, Jim Carrey, and the late Robin Williams. This is classic comedy at its finest.

What Old Christmas movie is it where the young girl gives a poor boy her Coca Cola and Meal?

Ahhh it has been killing me. I should probably just go back and watch all my favorite Christmas movies, but there is this scene that I remember from one, I am pretty sure it is a movie from the 1970s or 1980s (possibly 90s but don't think so). There is this subplot type of scene where a little girl lives in a nice house with her Grandmother who is well-off financially. Outside it is snowy and cold and there is a little boy (I don't remember if he is an orphan or not) who looks inside their house seeing their happiness and that they have a Christmas dinner when he is hungry. So she goes into the kitchen when the Grandmother is not watching, and brings to him at the back door a Coca Cola and a Plate of Christmas dinner food. He sits down on the steps and has these fingerless gloves and opens the Coca Cola (which though it is snowy outside looks and sounds SO amazing in this scene) and then eats the food like it is the greatest thing on earth. I was trying to tell my boyfriend about this scene that is just sensory rich (the popping of the can as he opens it, the munching of the food) which I think is actually due to it being an older film (so older sound quality). I have suspicion that it could be "Santa Claus" with Dudley Moore, but I would love to see if someone knows before I watch it again. Shoot me any ideas, I am thrilled to figure out what movie it is! c:

What year does the movie "A Christmas Story" take place?

"Dating the story
An actual advertisement which includes Red Ryder's BB Gun.Based on references to popular culture in the film, the story takes place no earlier than 1939, when the MGM film The Wizard of Oz came out, and no later than 1942, the last year of the Little Orphan Annie radio broadcasts.[8] The World War II time frame is consistent with the presence of shoppers in military uniforms peering into the display window, which contained a toy tank. The most likely year is 1940, because Ralphie's new Radio Orphan Annie decoder pin is the 1940 model. [9] This dating is slightly later than author Jean Shepherd's own childhood (he was 19 years old in 1940) but earlier than that of director Bob Clark (who was born in 1941). The Red Ryder BB gun was available during this period and for many years afterward, but never in the exact configuration mentioned in the film.[10]

Despite the many props and other references to this era, however, one can find the occasional anachronism, such as Scut Farkus (and the Old Man in a fantasy sequence) wearing a coonskin cap, a piece of apparel more evocative of the 1950s. Also, the police car that responds to the stuck tongue is a 1947 Chevrolet (which can be seen through the classroom window). Such fuzziness of dating may be seen as a way to generalize the nostalgia for Ralphie's childhood as applying to other time periods as well. As Clark states in the commentary: "I set it in my mind as basically close to World War II. 1940 is my idea of when it is. That's when the cars are set for.... It's amorphously later Thirties, early Forties."

Need help identifying this Christmas movie!?

I know this is a strange request but here goes...when I was about 4 or 5 years old (approx. 1991), I remember seeing a live action Christmas movie on TV...pretty much all I remember about it is that it was funny and that in the end two Santa Clauses - one dressed normally in a red suit and another one dressed in a green Santa suit - drifted off into the sky in a hot air balloon. Weird, I know, but does anyone have any idea what movie this could be? I've done a-ka-billion Google and Yahoo! searches and have found zilch. Thanks.
