On August 27th 2003 Did Mars Become Closer And Larger

Mars orbit coming super close to earth in august?

No. It is an annual hoax made to make fun of the people who believe in it.

The original context from 2003 was "through a telescope". This part was eliminated and passed on as a joke to laugh at how many persons are uneducated about our Solar System.

Will 2 "moons" be visible August 27th due to Mars' closeness to earth?

Its a hoax:
Have you gotten the Mars email yet? There is a message going around that says "Mars will appear as large as the full moon with the naked eye." People are encouraged to share this with their children and grandchildren.

The message also states.....NO ONE ALIVE TODAY WILL EVER SEE THIS AGAIN.

Unfortunately, this is someone's idea of a joke. Here is the link from NASA that addresses the hoax.

I do encourage everyone take the time to observe the heaven's, even if Mars will never appear as large as our moon. There are many great objects to enjoy in our sky on a clear night. Here is a great website resource for information about our night sky. http://skyandtelescope.com/

Why is it best to view Mars near opposition? Why are some oppositions better than others?

At opposition, Mars is high in our sky and fully lit by the sun. Its also closer to us at opposition than any other time.

If the opposition happens to be when Mars is at its closest to the sun and we are at the farthest from the sun, we are closer to Mars than any other time and Mars will appear larger and brighter than other oppositions.

Of course, this isn't secret and can be found in a few seconds of searching online.

The Moon and Mars and the Prophecy of Revelation comes at the End of this Month.?

"Planet Mars will be the brightest in the night sky starting August.** It will look as large as the full moon to the naked eye."

********! And you expect to be taken seriously?

ROTFLMAO!

You do realize, don't you , that there are FIVE planets easily visible to the naked eye? What's the fifth one represent? The Antichrist? LOL!

What a maroon!

ADDENDUM

"The moon is half the size of mars, and it is 28,900 miles away (roughly). If Mars were to come within 35 miles of the earth, it would take up the entire sky and we wouldn't be able to see the entire thing. "

Uh. your facts are just a tad off. She did not say that Mars would come within 35 miles of the earth. She said 34.5M miles - million. You did better on your earth-moon distance. You were only off by a factor of 10.
==================

"However, even then you could not see it with the naked eye, you had to have a telescope with 75 power magnification"

Don't you guys ever even look up at night? You do NOT need a telescope to see Mars even when it is at its farthest point from the earth. Sheesh!

Will Mars appear noticeably larger at the opposition on July 27?

Yes, but you will not notice it unless you use a telescope. You will notice that it is much brighter by eye.Between July 27 and August 3 Mars will appear nearly 7 times larger and over 60 times brighter than it was a year before in 2017. The reason for this dramatic difference is that Earth and Mars have adjacent orbits around the sun and the distance between them is much closer when they are on the same side of the sun than when they are on opposite sides (roughly 57 vrs. 400 million km).Even at it’s largest apparent size, Mars appears 60 times smaller than the moon so it just looks like a bright point by eye.July 27 will not be a particularly good night to observe Mars with a telescope because there will be a full moon close by. You can find detailed information on the best days to observe this opposition at:See Mars at it's bestThe note also shows you how to calculate how large it will appear with different focal length cameras and telescopes.Heres an image of Mars from the 2014 opposition a couple of weeks before the closest approach taken with a small telescope:This year Mars will appear 2/3 larger than when the image above was taken!

Is it true.See the image below?

Rumours claiming that Mars will be so close to Earth it will be visible in the sky on August 27th 2015 are spreading across the Internet. Many rumours claim that Mars will be so close that it will appear that there are two moons in the sky.In fact it was back in August 2003 that Mars did actually make an unordinary close appearance to our home planet, but this certainly didn’t make it appear as big as the moon. To the naked eye it would still have appeared to be a relatively small reddish dot in the night sky, around 6 times more visible than it normally would be.Mars does come quite close to us every other decade, and again this makes it more visible in the sky, but once again it is still seen as a small red dot, unless you happen to be looking at it through a rather powerful telescope.Sadly, Mars will never come so close to us as to appear anything as big as the moon, certainly not in the foreseeable future, and the images depicting two moons (like the ones attached to the messages above) have been digitally altered. So once again this rumour is not true, and no doubt we will be seeing it appear once again in August 2016.

Is it true that on July 27, 2018, Mars will appear as large as the moon? If it is, why?

>> Is it true that on July 27, 2018, Mars will appear as large as the moon? If it is, why? This junk is brought up every so often and it is nothing but a hoax. Mars is on average 0.5 AU from earth. And how it appears right now is as large as it is going to appear. If you live in the Northern Hemisphere, go outside around 22:00 local time and look in the southern sky. Mars is about a magnitude -2.5 right now and it is a beautiful bright orangish colour. It has been awhile since it has appeared the way it is right now so it is worth a look. But it will not and never will appear as big as the moon.Actually Mars, the moon, Saturn and Jupiter can all be seen at the same time right now and are almost in a straight line with each other.Mars will be farthest east, then Saturn which is considerably dimmer at about a mag 1.0.Then Jupiter is next and is about a mag -2.0 or so right now; so it is a little dimmer than Mars, but still bright. It is worth a look if it interests you.
