On Average How Much Does A Kitten/cat Cost A Year

How much on average does a vet cost for a sick cat?

My kitten has bloody diarrhea, i made an appt for later today, but they wont tell me how much i might expect to spend. I know their office visit is 18 dollars, im assuming they will do blood work or at least a fecal exam...has anyone had those tests done and can give me a rough estimate as to what they may cost me? i know any fluids, medicines, etc will be extra, im just wondering how much for the blood work and fecal exam. Thanks!

How much does a cat cost on average per month?

There are so many variables to caring for a cat, so none of us can tell you absolutely what it will cost. Dependent upon where you live will dictate the cost of spay/neutering. Someone listed that price as $400-500, but the most I have ever paid to have a cat fixed was about $85 with their rabies shot. I could simply live in an area that has cheaper spay/neuter programs.

I spend a lot of money on my cats, but that is a choice I make. I buy them all kinds of toys and I buy them a lot of cat treats; neither of which are necessary to a happy, healthy cat. I feed my cats Kitten Chow/Cat Chow dry food, a couple of different brands of moist food, and Tidy Cats litter (rather than the expensive foods, but my cats don't have dietary issues that require a specialized diet).

Routine medical care is another issue that depends upon local costs and the amount of detailed medical tests you choose for your cat. Some people only give rabies shots (which are required). Some people do all out medical testing for their pets and that is going to run into some money.

Emergency medical care can get very expensive, but a lot of areas have assistance programs in place if needed. I care for 8 cats (4 cats that I personally own, 1 neighborhood stray that I care for, and 3 cats that live at my grandparents). Two of these cats have required extensive medical care. One dislocated his hip twice, both of which required emergency care (ultimately, 1 emergency surgery). The other cat came to me as a very sick, emaciated kitten that I cared for and brought back to good health. She had to have surgery to insert drain tubes for a large abscess that continued to appear on her side. So, these cats cost me about $800 each; however, my other cats have required NO medical care at all.

In my area, rabies shots are $7. The original rabies shot must be repeated in 1 year and then you can go every 3 years.

Hope this helps, but like I said, every area and every cat will require different amounts of money to care for. Good luck!

How much on average does a Siamese cat cost?

I paid $125.00 for my first Siamese, Peanut. She lived for 19 years as my special fur baby and I still think of her often. I have Lily now, who I got from a shelter for a small adoption fee. Lily was rescued from an elderly horder and my husband Jeffrey couldn't even look at her for 3 months without her hissing and hiding. She is a magnificent love bug now, a superior “Games for Cats” iPad player, and has the sweetest souls of any animal that I have ever had. I adopted Binky from Craigslist for $25.00. His looks are “snowshoe Siamese +?” I know his mother was a purebred, but his father might have been a traveling man. Binky is the first boy I have had in a while and he is a handful. A handful of laughs and cat gymnastics and toilet paper roll destruction. It is not unheard of for champion cats to cost in the thousands of dollars. The love and companionship I have received from these cat imps can't be measured in dollars. Please consider rehoming a young Siamese from Craigslist or your local shelter. They do show up frequently, they get lost and never find their people. I promise, it will warm your soul.

How much does a vet visit cost for a kitten?

Vet costs of course vary depending on the cost of living in your area, but your basic vet exam will run you between $35 and $50. Your kitten will need vaccines, they need a series of three "distemper" (FVRCP) shots starting at 8 weeks, and then two more given three weeks apart. These are between say $12 and $25 each. Rabies vaccines are given at age 3 months, and these also are between $12 and $25. Any other vaccines (FeLV, FIV, FIP, and so on) are not necessary for an indoor cat. At 8 weeks your male kitten will be old enough to be neutered - you can save money on this one by calling your local shelters to see if they have any spay/neuter clinics. A neuter at a regular vet generally costs between $70 and about $150.

How much does a american bobtail kitten/cat cost?

And Ocimom got a thumbs down - WHY?

She's absolutely correct. The minimum price for a pet quality kitten of ANY breed is around $600. Show quality - into the thousands. The American Bobtail is not that common so I would expect probably at least $800 for a kitten. Make sure it's a REGISTERED breeder or what you're buying is simply a kitten with a birth defect.

Why are you too good for a "normal cat"?

How much does it cost to raise and maintain a kitten/young cat?

First, you will have no trouble finding a kitten. Try to make sure that any you adopt was able to spend at least 8 weeks with it's mother. This is important for a number of reasons.

Adoption fees from shelters vary so it's hard to say how much that will be but probably no more than $100.

DO get your kitten spayed or neutered when it's old enough! I can not stress that enough! You will prevent MANY MANY problems that way. Cost? Varies, but talk to the shelter or rescue group. There are low cost and even no cost services available. They will help you find one.

Day to day care: Your kitten (cat) will need food and clean water every day. Most cats are able to self regulate food intake and while I know some people will disagree with this if you leave your kitten dry food and clean water each day he/she will be just fine!

Kittens/cats need to scratch. Get a scratching post and teach your kitten to use it. (Rub it's paws up and down on the post.)

Litter box. I use clumping litter but you don't have to. I just find it makes cleaning easier. Takes me one minute each day to clean the box.

Time: Most of your time will be spent playing with and loving your kitten. Toys don't have to be expensive. Pretty much anything that's small and moves easily.

IMPORTANT CONSIDERATION: You are 17 and your family doesn't care about the cat. Do you plan to go to school in a year or two? Cats can live well into their teens. Are you prepared to care for this cat into your 30's? If not, who will? Look, I think it's great that you want to adopt and God knows there are 1000's of cats and kittens who need your help, but you can't just leave the kitten behind when it becomes inconvienent. Make sure you know what you are getting yourself into. If you need to wait a few years, wait! There will still be kittens available for you. GOOD LUCK!!!

Roughly, how much does it cost to have a kitten as a pet PER MONTH?

it at depends on how well YOU want to care for your kitten...........

when we got ours...........we went to pets mart and paid around 80. for all her supplies...... purina food , food dish/bowl, we got her tidy cats cat litter, a litter pan, a poop-er scooper, some cat TREATS, a couple of wet food cans, a flea collar and think thats about it.(that doesnt include the collar~~we already had one)

if you buy the larger bag of food like the 10-12 lbs you will see that it lasts you around 2 months(as it does us)if you have an older cat

as for the litter if you dont want your house smelling like poo........
your gonna want to go with the more pricier brands.......they really do work.....rather than the store brands.(which you might need to but up to every three weeks @ $8.00 a pop....sometimes people just arent ready for the expenses of a cat

so like i said it just depends on how YOU want treat her.

and generally the first dr visit with shots is about another 80............

you can go to the humane society and adopt for a few dollars more and they already come with first visit and shots (depending on the age of course)~~~and they give you a free collar with a printed id tag

but to answer your question i would say about $15..(A MONTH)........
10. bag of food every two months.........divided by two $5.00 a month cat litter every 3 weeks at 8.00 a bucket and a dollar or two for the water he or she will be drinking throughout the month........
the friendship of a feline....priceless

well good luck and i hope you do decide to get a soft furry friend!!!
