On Birth Control Having An Irregular Period

Irregular periods and starting Birth Control?

I just started mine whenever I wanted to. your period will just get regular after about 3 months.

If your periods are really irregular then just start the pill whenever you want. Just remember to take the pill EVERYDAY at the SAME TIME everyday. that is the only way they are effective.

Is having an irregular period while taking birth control pills a sign of PCOS?

It's a sign of Hormone imbalance for sure.PCOD is completely reversible in my experience. I have reversed not only my own PCOD but have helped hundreds of women heal their hormone Imbalances and achieve healty natural pregnancies. It's frustrating to see that so many women are suffering and not getting the right information. It can be reversed not by masking the symptoms with drugs but by addressing the root cause of the problem. Needs root cause evaluation with further investigations...Can be healed with diet changes, lifestyle changes, self care and Detoxification.Hope this helps.

Is it normal to have an irregular period on birth control?

Spotting is sometimes seen when on the contraceptive pill, seen when you start using the (or a new) contraceptive pill, or if already in use for a longer time the dose of hormones is too low for you; usually your (fake) periods are lighter than normal, but they can be different than normal. You know you the contraceptive pill works, right? This is what happens when one becomes pregnant: estrogen is made by the ovaries and will inhibit both hypophysis and pituitary from making GnRH and LH so no ovulation takes place.By taking the combination pill, containing an estrogen and a progestagen, you elevate the level of estrogen in your blood, thus your body thinks you’re pregnant, so suppresses ovulation. Then during the stop week, or during the week you take the white placebo tablets, you suddenly stop taking hormones, the inner lining of your womb, unsupported by these female sex hormones, will die off, and cause a bleeding which looks like a period, but is a fake period, since you never had an ovulation before.

Can birth control make you have a irregular period?

Birth control introduces new hormones and tries to regulate your period. Most pills are hormones for three weeks sugar pills for one and your body has to regulate so for those three weeks u dont bleed and u have your period on the 4th. The body often takes a few months to regulate. Sometimes you'll bleed often, sometimes not at all but after having a baby yer hormones are still screwed up and may take longer to regulate

IF YOU ARE NURSING!!!... Most of the time nursing mothers dont have periods... I nursed my daughter til she was 15 months, I was period free for 15 months... minus two short spotty periods.

Does the birth control pill cause irregular periods?

When you first get on birth control, your menstrual cycle will be out of whack a little bit because your putting hormones into your body, and your body has to learn to regulate your system with them. After a few months, your periods should become very regular, happening on a specific pill date every month (mine is on the 4th week, 2nd pill). Unless you're experiencing health problems or stress or something after this time period, then your periods should be very regular. But right now, it'll be out of sync.

Irregular period after stopping birth control pills.?

I'm 18 now and I was on birth control pills a year ago for irregular periods (i used to have it every two and a half weeks). I stopped using them after two months and my period became REALLY irregular. When I first stopped, my period wouldn't come for 31 days and then when it comes, it lasts for seven days. My period comes back after less than two weeks and lasted for 31 days (light bleeding, brown color) so I decided to go back on pills. I stopped the pills once again, but this time after six months. My period became as irregular as it was after I stopped using the pills the first time. In fact, it is the same exact pattern for the first two months. I'm still having my period right now, for more than 31 days and it's been light and brown bleeding. It's been months now since I stopped (maybe 3 or 4 months) and my period is still very irregular. I've been to various herbalists and spent a lot of money, but it's still as bad. What can i do?

I have irregular periods. Does birth control help?

Yes you can use birth control for that problem. When you're young your hormones are still not in balance and that is why birth control pills help. The other poster is wrong. It is a common problem amongst young girls because progesterone is the last hormone to come into play when you start menstruating it won't become regular until this happens. Therefore you can use the mini pill which is a progesterone only pill. And it does not suppress ovulation like a combined pill does. Therefore it is safe to use. There is no underlying problem to investigate. It is a normal part of your body maturing. You want to take the pill for a short while until your ovaries start producing progesterone independently. The birth control pill has been used for decades for this problem. My friend used it when she was a teenager 30 years ago. She had three healthy children. It did not affect her fertilty.

Here is a quote from Dr Stanely West a top New York gynecologist and Chief of the division of Reproductive Endocronolgy ansd Infertility at St Vincents hospital.
"Menstual irregularities in young girls rarely warrant an extensive medical workup, hormone assay or sonogrmams. In fact a sonogram can be needlessly alarming under these circumstances because it probably will show a cyst on the ovary. The cysts merely indicate that the follicles are not yet developing fully enough to proceed lto ovulation. They are meaningless and often go on their own accord".
And natural remedies suggested by the poster can be just as potent and dangerous as synthetic drugs.
No you do not need a pelvic exam but you may have a hard time fighting your doctor who will try to force you to have one. If they do they are out of date with their information. See these links and arm yourself with info and say no to a pelvic exam. It is unfair to force virgins to have them who may not go to get help for period problems because they are scared of getting a pelvic exam and a pelvic exam is actually pretty useless at picking up any problems anyway.

Is it normal to have a irregular period while on birth control (Loestrin Fe)?

Well I am on Lo Loestrin 24 Fe and I got my period a week before I was supposed to. Apparently mine was due to extreme stress. I had a national certification test this week and I was supposed to get my period this past week, but I got it the week before. I thought it was odd because I was on my active pills. But here are some reasons for having your period early while on birth control:

"Time Frame
If you are just starting a new method of birth control (especially a powerful hormonal method such as the birth control shot), your period may come early or late. It also may run especially heavy or light as your body is adjusting to the new hormones.

Lifestyle
If you are under a lot of stress at work or school, it may cause your period to come early, even when you are using a birth control method. This is because stress disrupts the hormone levels that control your period.

Geography
If you undergo a big change in altitude or experience a difference in time zones, it may cause your period to come early even if you are on birth control. The reason for this is your geographical location affects your internal biological settings, which in turn can disrupt your hormone levels.

Diet
A big increase in calorie consumption may cause your period to come early, even if you are on birth control. Again, this is because the mechanics of your body are thrown off by serious changes to your diet, which in turn affects your hormone levels.

Considerations
This most probable and most preventable cause for an early period when you are on the pill method of birth control is skipping your pill or being inconsistent with your timing each day. The pill delivers hormones that regulate your body's ability to produce a shedding of the uterine wall, and when the hormonal messages are inconsistent, the body resorts the shedding the wall as soon as possible."

So it seems to be a normal thing that can happen every once in a while.

Good luck!

I have been on birth control for 4 months. Why is my period still irregular?

Because not every pill will regulate the periods of every woman, and if it it does it may take your body time to adjust to it.You may gradually have fewer or lighted periods, you may cease periods completely, or it may not affect your periods at all.Your pill may not have that effect on your body, or it may be in the process of that. If you’re concerned, go back and chat with your doctor or family planning clinic about what you should expect and if a different type or brand may suit you better.
