Pain When Swallowing After Wisdom Tooth Extraction

Swallowing after wisdom teeth extraction?

I just got all four fully erupted wisdom teeth out at 4pm on Wednesday (the 26th) and I'm really afraid of swallowing (especially while eating anything even if it is soft) is going to dislodge my clots and case me to get dry socket. So I've been swallowing with my mouth open and tilting my head back to try and help. I don't know if my tongue is just big too but if feels like when I talk or swallow it keep brushing over the clots as well ... Am I overreacting? I'm really just afraid of doing anything to upset the clots. I have to go back to school on Sunday and I can't be in severe pain since I don't handle it well. Also how long do the clots stick around? I appreciate any advice. :)

Throat pain after wisdom tooth extraction?

i just got my wisdom tooth taken out yesterday and when i woke up today it hurt to swallow. it feels like a lump is in my throat. is this because i've been swallowing differently since after the extraction i had to swallow awkwardly?

i drank milk and i swallowed when the liquid reached the back of my throat and i took heavy gulps so it wouldn't hurt the extraction site, could this also be a cause of it?
and is this a common symptom of wisdom tooth extraction? thank you.

Is it ok to swallow after a wisdom tooth extraction?

I just had one wisdom tooth removed from my lower jaw. it was an excruciating two-hour procedure that I was awake for. the dentist wasn't able to remove all of the tooth because the root is too deep in my jaw making it very, very painful.

he stitched the hole and there is blood.

my question... can I swallow? will it interfere with the healing? I'm paranoid about losing the clot. I can still taste blood.

the operation was only a few hours ago.

After a quadruple wisdom tooth extraction, how can I swallow food/drink without the sockets hurting?

You will only know if you try.You should have been given explicit verbal and written advice on this before your extractions and afterwards. If you want to see other advice, just Google wisdom teeth post op food

Difficulty swallowing after tooth extraction?

After tooth extraction, it’s important for a blood clot to form to stop the bleeding and begin the healing process. That’s why we ask you to bite on a gauze pad for 30-45 minutes after the appointment. You may have to do this several times. If bleeding still persists, biting on a moist tea bag wrapped in gauze may help control the oozing from the surgical site. Tea has an ingredient that promotes blood clotting.

After the blood clot forms, it is important not to disturb or dislodge the clot as it aids healing. Does not rinse vigorously, suck on straws, smoke, drink alcohol or brush teeth next to the extraction site for 72 hours. These activities will dislodge or dissolve the clot and retard the healing process. Limit vigorous exercise for the next 24 hours as this will increase blood pressure and may cause more bleeding from the extraction site.

Failure to comply with the above instructions will result in dislodgement of the clot and severe throbbing pain at the extraction site, since the bone is now exposed to the oral environment. After the tooth is extracted you may feel some pain and experience some swelling. An ice pack or an unopened bag of frozen peas or corn applied to the area will keep swelling to a minimum. Take pain medications as prescribed. The swelling usually subsides after 48 hours.

Use the pain medication as directed. Call the office if the medication doesn’t seem to be working. If antibiotics are prescribed, continue to take them for the indicated length of time, even if signs and symptoms of infection are gone. Drink lots of fluid and eat nutritious soft food on the day of the extraction. You can eat normally as soon as you are comfortable.

It is important to resume your normal dental routine after 24 hours. This should include brushing and flossing your teeth at least once a day. This will speed healing and help keep your mouth fresh and clean. After a few days you will feel fine and can resume your normal activities. If you have heavy bleeding, severe pain, continued swelling for 2-3 days, or a reaction to the medication, call our office immediately.

How can you treat throat pain after wisdom teeth extraction?

Throat pain with one or more open sockets? Don’t want re-infection or a dry socket which can be quite painful?Speedy healing without complications you seek?Don’t smoke. Use a metal tongue sweeper and non-alcohol-based mouthwash 3 times a day. Supplement this with warm salt water rinses 3 to 5 times a day also.Brush and floss after BOTH breakfast and dinner for 4 to 5 minutes. Let your body heal itself. Stay the course for 10 to 14 days. After 14 days, if your throat pain still persists, see your dentist to see if he or she thinks a referral to the ENT specialist is prudent or warranted if not at least re-assuring and beneficial. If you’re diabetic or taking a blood-thinning medication, expect that an extra week or two of slow and steady healing will be your regular norm. Good luck.

I just had my wisdom tooth removed, and every time I try swallowing the excess saliva (throat movement) I cause tension on the stitches and I swallow like 5-10 times per minute, will I dislodge the blood clot?

Normal Swallowing will not dilodge the blood clot in any condition. There is even less chances of suture breakdown. Clot gets stablized in 6 hours maximum and gets matured in 24 hours. Take care not to gargle or swish mouth for 24 hours and not to take hot food for 24 hours. After 24 hours you can start with hot saline rinses as it will maintain oral hygiene in that area and will also reduce inflammation. Your dentist is the best person to answer all your queries. Things i have mentioned herein are general instructions and you should follow the advice of your dentist if there is any ambiguity.Regards,Dentin Implants India

What causes throat pain after wisdom teeth extraction?

Wisdom tooth apparently has strong links at the root levels to our nervous system…a slight bit more than usual teeth, hence they are called Wisdom tooth in essence (i suppose). So upon their “forced” extraction, the nerves easily get damaged temporarily hence causing excruciating pain! Ofcourse i’m no dentist but i believe thats the Science behind it! Could be wrong but doubt i am if the above is stated in layman’s terms!Whether or not throat pain has any link to this, am not too sure i think. But i’d say it could be brought about by the additional activity enforced on the salivary glands as a result of the nervous abrasion due to wisdom tooth extraction.Ofcourse that said, i or anyone could google it too…Google has all the answers ;) these days.
