People Who Are Chinese Help Me Identify This Chinese Song

What apps can identify a song based on my humming or singing a part of the song?

MidomiAds by GoogleMidomi is a neat well-designed website and a unique search engine that’s powered by your voice. Thevoice search takes up just a corner because Midomi also has a large community of music lovers behind it. Midomi’s ultimate goal is to build the most comprehensive database of searchable music, part of it with user contributions.ShazamShazam is a song identifier app (and also works like a tagging app) you can carry along in your smartphone. Shazam is supported on iPad, iPhone and iPod Touch, Android, Blackberry, Nokia, and Windows Phone 7. With Shazam you can simply hold your phone up to the song to identify the track, buy it, check out the videos, and share it with friends. Unlike Midomi however, you have to play the track for Shazam to identify it with a tag – humming won’t cut it.MusipediaMusipedia is a melody search engine. As the site explains (to search a tune) – probably of the three, Musipedia gives you the best search combo to find a song if you can’t place it by name. You can use the available online tools like the Flash or Java based piano; you can draw notes with your mouse; whistle a tune into the mic; search by tapping the rhythm with the keyboard; use the Parson’s code; or simply use old-fashioned text search. The collection of tunes, melodies, and musical themes is freely editable by anyone. The site welcomes contributions to build-up the database.Hope it was helpful :)

Why is Cao Cao so unpopular with Chinese people and as a historical figure? He is treated harshly right?

While Cao Cao is considered an antagonist because of his role in the Three Kingdoms story, he is still a very respected character to the Chinese people. He was considered a great man because of his personal power, ambition, and resourcefulness, as well as his ability to eventually unite the Three Kingdoms together (though technically he did have to defeat the other two factions (protagonists) to get there). There are many songs written about him as well (check out Cao Cao by JJ Lin), but I disagree where you say that Cao Cao is synonymous with the devil.

What are two tips you'd give someone trying to learn Chinese?

1.When you encounter Pinyin, you have to read it aloud. Pinyin is not read the same way as English letters are, and you must get used to reading Pinyin correctly. Many sounds in Chinese are quite different from those in English, and each sound is perfectly distinct. You have to pay attention to sounds like zi/ci/si/zhi/chi/shi and you must be able to easily distinguish them.A good way to test your skill, in my opinion, is to listen to a Chinese song and try to identify the Pinyin. If you find the Chinese lyrics you can use Google Translate to obtain the Pinyin. The major problem I see in westerners trying to learn Chinese is the pronunciation, but for some reason, Vietnamese and other Asian groups have little to no problems with it. (Probably since their language is much tougher).2.When increasing vocabulary, it is best not to learn each Chinese character as a word in itself, but rather check out the 构词 and 词语搭配 (difficult to translate into English, but something like compound words and character phrases) for each word.Although Chinese characters can stand alone, they are normally put together like puzzle pieces to form compound words. In order to gain an understanding of the nuances in each word, checking the related coupound words for their meanings would show how this word can be used, and the meanings associated with these words. When you can recognize all the constituent words in a compound word, you should be able to roughly piece together the meanings and figure out the general meaning of the compound word. This is a skill that allows us Chinese to understand phrases we’ve never seen before, and also come up with our own phrases.

May someone translate this Chinese song for me into English?

Here is the link: http://youtube.com/watch?v=dzQenM1sGq8

Chinese (Mandarin) dialogue help?

Hi, I'm taking Chinese III and we're using the New Practical Chinese Reader II. I'm trying to figure out what the following dialogue means. The two characters who are speaking are 林哪 (Lin Na) and 马大为 (Ma Da Wei). Looking at the dialogue, I think they are talking about another character, 宋华 (Song Hua). Correct me if I'm wrong. Please also correct my translations and fill in the stuff I don't know, especially the translation of the first part of Ma Da Wei's dialogue (before the first comma). Thanks in advance!

马大为: 刚才宋华来了,他也问我,林娜去哪儿?
林哪: 我给宋华写信了, 他怎么不知道? 他现在在哪儿?
马大为: 他回宿舍了。

Translation
Ma Da Wei: [not sure about the first part before the comma], he also asked me, "Where has Lin Na gone?"
Lin Na: I have sent Song Hua a letter, how did he not know [where I have been]? Where is he now?
Ma Da Hui: He has returned to the dormitory.

One more question: Is Lin Na wondering if Song Hua moved and the letter perhaps did not reach him? Is Ma Da Hui confirming this?

Can you help me figure out which Enigma song this is?

Trying to add more detail:During the early days of dial-up internet I visited the website for the musical group Enigma. It contained samples of songs including some of their most well known tracks up to that time (around 1997-8) and some lesser known tracks. There was one sample that I have heard in my head the entire time yet cannot locate on any of their major releases. The first part of the sample included the breathy female spoken vocals which then led to what my untrained ears identified as tympani drum hits and followed by chanting of sorts. Can you help me figure out which song this might be? To the best of my knowledge it is NOT on any of the major albums up to that point, as I have them all and cannot find the clip I vividly remember.
