Philosophical/motivational/inspirational Question Here

What problems are solved by asking philosophical questions?

When Newton asked himself why an apple falls towards the earth, I bet alot of people thought it a waste of time to consider this. But the fact of the matter is this. When inquiring a deeper & more accurate understanding of the nature of the universe (science) or self (philosophy) the value gained is not immediately evident.

With Newton's seemingly pointless questions of the nature of the universe we have gained scientific understandings enabling us to be as technologicaly advanced as we are today. Philosophy is no different so long as the direction is towards value and not wondering indefinately.

The word philosophy means "The love of wisdom". Wisdom means "Applying knowledge for benefit.".

So, that being said, Is this a philosophical question? " Why should one care to live a moral life?" Of course it is & here is a good answer to it. It increases the self esteem of the individual causing them to feel that they are indeed worthy of a great life. This feeling of worthiness will result in the individual persuing what they desire instead of them platoing at the level they feel worthy of.

Also, to live moraly is good for the collective group which is in tern good for the individuals. A great example is a neighborhood with a very low crime rate compared to a high crime rate.

So, by asking this question I have directed my focus towards all possible answers, yes? This makes me MORE AWARE of the overall benefits of living morally. Without this awareness there is little reason to restrict one's self seeking tendancies if they think they could bet away with it. (short sighted perspective)

The more I show others how I see this and the more I represent this perspective, the more others are influenced into adopting similar standards in their own morallity.

Without questioning, we would forever be as sheep following the dogmas & social norms of our day. Never progressing. Never adapting. Never evolving.

What is your motivation to study philosophy?

Philosophy is generalization human knowledge gained in different disciplines of study both empirically and inferentially.Human minds are created with highest faculties of intellectual discrimination and intelligent manipulations in all fields of natural studies. So if I am motivated to study philosophy it is due to an inner desire to sharpen my intellectual discriminative capabilities in understanding the real and apparent aspects of phenomenal creation and improve my adaptive intelligence to realize the essence of all external manifestations into a general awareness of inner transformation .

What's your favorite inspirational quote/philosophical saying?

Here is a few inspirational quotes I really like. Got these from: www.juicyquotes.com

What is the essence of studying philosophy?

Hi ..
Most thoughtful people encounter, at some time in their lives, a question or a problem that captivates them at the same time that it seems insoluble... They are questions like these: Is there a way for people to live together with peace and justice?.. Can I ever be sure that I understand something or someone?.. Is the thing that I want to do also the right thing for me to do?.. Is the world made up of the things that I am familiar with, or is there something more to reality?... What is the value of art?.. What makes a mind different from a body?... Are scientific theories true or are they just the creations of scientists?..
These are interesting questions, but once questions such as these have been asked, most people do not know how to go about answering them... Philosophers have a way of dealing with such questions.. that is rewarding and engaging... Aristotle, one of the greatest of all philosophers, said :"Philosophy begins in wonder..." Aristotle's teacher, Plato, said: "Philosophy meets the test of critical discussion..." These two quotations give us:" the essence of philosophy".... ;)

My regards!!

What are the best philosophical movies?

Here are few I like,1. V for Vendetta- People should not be afraid of their Governments, the Governments should be afraid of the people. 2. Boyhood- You know how everyone's always saying seize the moment? I don't know, I'm kinda thinking it's the other way around. You know, like the moment seizes us.3. Jagten (The Hunt)- This is a movie that made sure that I thoroughly research anything before I believe in it.4. Truman Show- I have given Truman chance to lead a normal life. The world, the place you live in is the sick place.5. The Man from Earth- Time... you can't see it, you can hear it, you can't weigh it, you can't... measure it in a laboratory. It is a subjective sense of... becoming, what we... are, in stead of what we were a nanosecond ago, becoming what we will be in another nanosecond. The whole piece of time's a landscape existing, we form behind us and we move, we move through it... slice by slice6. Inside Out- An animated movie that goes beyond.7. Ex Machina- One day the AIs are going to look back on us the same way we look at fossil skeletons on the plains of Africa. An upright ape living in dust with crude language and tools, all set for extinction.8. Eternal Sunshine of a Spotless Mind- What's Wrong? I don't know! I DON'T KNOW! I'm lost! I'm scared! I feel like I'm disappearing! MY SKIN'S COMING OFF! I'M GETTING OLD! Nothing makes any sense to me! NOTHING MAKES ANY SENSE!9. Gattaca- For someone who was never meant for this world, I must confess I'm suddenly having a hard time leaving it. Of course, they say every atom in our bodies was once part of a star. Maybe I'm not leaving... maybe I'm going home.10. Mr.Nobody- Every path is the right path. Everything could've been anything else. And it would have just as much meaning.

INFP male here question?

Sorry I am ISTP. You know the Myers-Briggs test is based on principles of Karl Jung, my favorite psychologist. I think it's pretty accurate. So embrace who you are and work with it. No 'type' is bad, just different.

ISTP
Rodin's Thinker is introverted. Here these thinkers ponder the apparent chaos of the world in order to extract from it the universal truths and principles that can be counted on. These principles, once extracted, will provide the logical structure on which to build strategies.

Introverted Thinking personality types have a finely nuanced ability to analyse situations, find root causes and foresee consequences. They distrust action taken too quickly without the necessary investigation. They are usually levelheaded, objective, impersonal yet intensely involved in problem solving. They are fiercely independent, seeking input and comments from a chosen few. When reporting to others, they need to establish credibility first: their own and that of the person they are reporting to. If the gap in knowledge and expertise is too great and their own proficiency dismissed, belittled or ignored, they will lose interest and motivation.

They are less interested in running the world as they are in understanding it. They are curious and capable of explaining complex political, economic or technological problems, taking great pleasure in explaining all the factors and intricacies. They are rigorous with their thoughts and analysis, choosing the exact words that convey precisely what is meant. They may spend a lot of time defining words, concepts and systems in order to define a problematic solution.

They are armchair detectives, scientists and philosophers, spending most of their time in quiet reflection to ponder truth, and solve mysteries. They may tend to neglect social requirements and responsibilities, finding many relationships to be too superficial to be of much interest.

Anime (or manga) with deep, possibly philosophical meaning?

I love philosophical anime.
Kino no Tabi happens to be one of my favorite animes currently. (:

A suggestion would be Serial Experiments Lain -- which I just recently finished. It has a complex plot, death, and religious aspects with philosophical motives.

Another anime that, in my opinion, is great is CHaos;HEAd. I'm still watching it, but so far so good. On a scale of 1-10, I'd rate it an optimistic seven. There's a boy, who's both delusional and oppressed, that has the special ability of foreseeing a person's death. When he starts seeing visions of seemingly unrelated deaths, he begins to "investigate" -- though forcefully, by the people who share his gift.

Tengen Toppa Gurren Lagaan is probably one of the only mech-anime I enjoyed. The main protagonist, a little boy named Simon, is both inspirational and will-powered. He sets out in journey -- probably the biggest in his life -- to "break to the surface," and leaving every possible hurtful thing in the past. Definitely recommended if you want those motivational anime.

An anime I found similar to Kino no Tabi is Mushishi (surprisingly, I don't see it in your list). A different plot with every episode, characters with flaws as beautiful as they get; insecurities build with the character development.

I agree with you; this place, specifically C&A, has become very vague. Sometimes, I think people just google "anime similar to so-and-so." It's more like a fight for Best Answer, lately. So many questions asked but closed with unhelpful answers. I've asked for recommendations (numerous times) but they all come back generic, cliche, and boring.
