Why does Africa have such high HIV/AIDS?
Because there isn't much awareness of safe sex or awareness of what AIDS/HIV is. Some think it's contracted throught air and such. Also, there isn't enought testing done in Africa by people so they can find our if they have AIDS or not so they spread it. Some don't want to be tested for it because if they are they may be kicked out their town or exiled since the people don't understand how it's contracted or anything about it. Some children get it throught their mother milk, some people might be raped, but there just isn't enough awareness about it or enough treatment for eveyone. Or they just can't afford it.
Is it ironic the bible belt has the highest rates of STDs, Teen Pregnancy, and Divorce?
It is an effect of the "sinning" of sex. When you tell people something is bad over and over, the first thing (especially teenagers) want to do is try it. Opressed sexual persons often become sexual predetors as well. There are indeed fewer incidents of STDs, teen pregnancy and divorce in open minded communities and countries. You will also find a much lower rate of violent sex crimes.
Why does the UK have such a poor quality of life?
Why do you make assumptions that Hong Kong and South Korea have a bad quality of life? If you have ever been to anywhere in east Asia, you will realise that the quality of life in the cities is far higher than British cities. The reason? There is no reason! Britain is rated as "one of the top "countries" by who? British people! I've been living in England all my life and can honestly say that I have not been somewhere worse than England. England likes to make itself known and therefore has a high reputation, however some countries are quieter and don't get noticed. For example, when I went to Singapore, every shop in the city was a skyscraper; every house was spacious and had extra features ( eg swimming pool) and only cost a fraction of the price of English houses. The trouble is that England is massively overcrowded (considering it is a fairly well developed nation) and can't support its populations. I know China consists of a lot of inhabitable areas but this does prove a point. Also, there are too many chavs (and other people) that rely on benefits and are unemployed. These people then have more kids (compared to 'normal' people) who repeat this process over an over again. Eventually, the majority of the population will be chavs that are having more teenage pregnancies, less academic qualifications and causing more crime. As you can see...it doesn't look good :( England has... Why is the prevalence of HIV/AIDS substantially higher in southern Africa compared to the Western world?
Long answer. The HIV epidemic is largely driven my heterosexual transmission in South Africa as is true for most of the world. High burdens of other STDs, particular genital herpes (HSV) and HPV, less robust healthcare infrastructure, delayed treatment of STDs, along with lower levels and availability of contraceptives and condoms may have allowed for more rapid spread of HIV, and vertical transmission between mother and child. But that is also true in Thailand and India.However, South Africa has made big strides in HIV treatment, has been a pioneer in HIV programming, particularly for communities of sex workers and persons who inject drugs (PWID), and has hosted 2 of the international HIV conferences in the past 20 years, both in Durban (2000 and 2016).There is a good UK based organization, AVERT, with a great web site that will give you some good history of HIV in sub-Sahara. Why is the rate of teenage pregnancy higher in red states?
From what I understand, the typical Republican voter is more religious, less well educated, and poorer than the average Democrat voter. Some religions ban contraception, and as a result more pregnancies occur, particularly among younger people who may have less control over their urges.Furthermore, poorer people and less well educated people tend not to have contraception available to them, and may not even know much about contraception. There are a lot of myths that go around about alternative methods of contraception, such as “pulling out” and period sex. If people aren't taught otherwise, they may use these methods thinking they work, and suffer an unintended pregnancy.As a secondary reason, it may not just be that being poorer results in an increased likelihood of teenage pregnancy, it could be that teenage pregnancy increases your likelihood of being poor and missing out on education. Therefore, teenage pregnancies may cause girls and their partners to vote Republican.This is coming from the perspective of a Scottish person with limited knowledge of American politics, so feel free to correct anything.
