Pomeranian Care Questions

Question for owners of Pomeranians.?

It is known that poms can be like that..

However, I am owned by two pomeranians and they love every single person that enters my home just the same.

they love my mother my sister my uncle and I all in the same breath.

They are my dogs so they are always with me. I care for them, I train them. But they love all of us equally.

So I have never experienced this problem but it is heard of..Also, Dogs are like humans in a way. You can not judge a book by its cover or a Dog by its breed.

I have tons of websites and info on pomeranians from when I did my research if you have any questions e-mail me.

Is a Pomeranian easy to take care of?

i am planning on getting a dog and i reallly like pomeranians and my neighbor nows someone who is having a litter so i think i want to get one but are they to much responsibleity?

How do I take care of a pomeranian dog?

I love Pomeranian dogs!! They are so cute!! Do you have one? What is it's name?Taking care of a Pomeranian isnt really hard.1 - Like all the puppies provide it with the best dog food like pedigree. Put in a bowl and place it.2- Bathe the dog about once a month with a conditioner and a shampoo. This will keep its fur as white as snow!3- Avoid giving them CHOCOLATES. Applicable to all dogs.4-Brush its teeth with a dog toothpaste and toothbrush.5- Take it for regular walks!6- Monthly once check up.7- Gently comb its fur. Not to harsh.8- In case of lice, Go to a vetenarian immediately and purchase a shampoo as told by the vetenarian9- Potty train your pom.I hope this helped you :-)

What is the best medical care for a 6-month old Pomeranian?

Any dog is pretty basic for any competent small-animal veterinarian. Find one you like and trust and do what they recommend. The only things I can think of for a 6 month old puppy would be to make sure they receive all their immunizations, check for worms and other parasites; and if you are going to spay or neuter, now is the time to start thinking about it. This is stuff that is common to any puppy and your vet should address these issues. There are really only two things I can think of right off-hand that would be specific to Pomeranians. All that lovely, fluffy fur. Poms need to be brushed thoroughly and regularly or that beautiful coat quickly becomes a matted, tangled mess. Curious puppies are also likely to collect all sorts of leaves, twigs, whatever as they explore every bush and thicket they encounter.Their diminutive size. Your Pomeranian puppy only weighs a couple or three pounds. There is remarkably little dog underneath all that fluff. They are small enough to be somewhat delicate and easily broken. They don’t know this. Pomeranians honestly believe that they are big dogs, and act accordingly. They are lively, exuberantly playful, bold and fearless. What they totally are not is careful or cautious. They need their people to be careful for them.

Is a Pomeranian breed easy to care for and is it sensitive to hot climates?

They can get sensative to hot weather, especially if they get overweight. Keep them trim. Don't feed them corn and chicken by-product based foods (such as Iams, Science Diet, Pedrigree, Purina, etc). Don't shave the dog in the hot weather because believe it or not, the coat acts as insulation for both cold and hot weather. You can have it trimmed no more then half the length, but don't shave it. Keep the dog brushed and from getting matts. A matted dog's skin cannot get air and will help the dog overheat.
Most of their care comes with their coat. Frequent brushing is mandantory. At least once a day. Bath once a month with shampoo and conditioner made for dogs. Also watch their teeth, poms tend to get early tooth decay. Good luck!

Information on pomeranian dogs?

Hopefully you mean you are going to PURCHASE a Pomeranian puppy from a REPUTABLE BREEDER.

Common health problems are

Collapsed Trachea
Elongated Soft Palate
Luxating Patella
Seizures
Hypothyroidism
Black Skin Disease

That is why you want to purchase your Pomeranian from a breeder who tests for these things.

A poorly bred Pomeranian will be expensive to take care of.

Last year my poorly bred Pomeranian (a "rescue") cost me over $3,000 in vet bills. Surgery for an elongated soft palate and later in the year a liver issue.

My other Pomeranian who I "rescued" last year as a puppy cost me $1,600 in his first year in vet bills.

You are better off spending $1,500-$2,000 on a nicely bred Pomeranian.

Pomeranians can be finicky if you coddle them.

Treat a Pomeranian like a real dog and they behave like a real dog.

Pomeranians have a HIGH ENERGY LEVEL, you must participate in dog sports like Agility or Obedience to keep them happy. Otherwise you will wind up with the yappy Pomeranian so many people seem to know.

This breed has the energy of the sled and herding dogs they descend from.

I need help on how to take care of my 7 week old Pomeranian!!?

I think your puppy should be weaned, so I don't think that's a worry. Grind up a little dry puppy food & also add a bit of puppy milk substitute (bought from pet stores or supermarkets). Although, I doubt the breeder would hand you an unweaned puppy unless they were dumb.
Feed her three times a day.

Let the puppy sleep on his dog-bed, that's fine. Give him a soft dog-toy teddy to sleep with so it is like he is sleeping next to his mother. Put the pet-bed next to your bed so you can watch him during the night.

You can start potty-training now. Simply put her outside (supervise him!) hourly, & after naps, eating, etc. Tell him "Go toilet!" & if he goes, give him a small treat & praise. Tell him "No!" firmly if you catch him toileting inside & then put him outside immediately.

Good luck!

Are pomeranians good natured dogs?

If they are well socialized and well trained, they can be wonderful dogs! They are loyal, loving, comical, very intelligent, generally friendly and are great little watch dogs.

However, Pomeranians have a few issues that can not go ignored like thier teeth. They have very shallow root systems and are prone to early tooth loss if you don't have regular professional cleanings and they need their teeth brushed at least 3 times a week. They also need to be groomed at least twice a week. DO NOT shave your Pom! They are also harder to housebreak. They are prone to Luxating Patellas and Tracheal collapse.

Teacup vs Pomeranian?

A teacup is a vessel for drinking tea. A Pomeranian is a dog. Yes, back yard breeders will scam you in a heartbeat! Using the term teacup for runts and made up names for mutts, just to part gullible people from their money. Either go to a breed(Pomeranian) rescue, shelter or humane society. If you must use a breeder find a reputable one.

Once you have decided on the breed you are looking for, visit the internet and find the NATIONAL BREED CLUB for your breed. Review all the information about the breed and find the web pages or phone contacts of breeders that are listed there. National breed clubs almost always have certain standards and ethics quides for any breeders which are listed on their pages.
Step2
Prepare a questionnaire of questions you want to ask the breeder. This is a good one:
What health guarantees do you have?
Can you give me a vet reference?
Can I visit your kennel and if so, when?
How long have you been breeding?
Do you enter your own dogs in AKC events?
Can you send me a sample copy of your contract?
Do you sell your litters to pet stores or brokers?
(there is NO responsible breeder that will sell to a broker or a pet store, since it is too difficult to follow through on who is getting your puppy!!)
The LAST question should be "how much do your puppies cost?" but it is of course an important question
Step3
Do make plans to visit the kennel and while there check the following things:
Are the dogs healthy and happy?
Does the kennel owner know each one by name?
Do the dogs have places to run outside their pens?
Are the pens clean and roomy?
(even if the home is a mess or in an uproar and not very neat, the kennels should be clean and all dogs should have food and fresh water available)
Is the whelping area in the house?
(puppies should be raised INSIDE a home for at least the first four weeks in order to get all the necessary social and physical attention needed in the first few weeks)
Do the sire and the dam act friendly and sociable?
(sometimes the STUD dog may not be available, the female may have been shipped elsewhere for breeding)
