Possible Cat Allergies

Is it possible for a cat to be allergic to itself?

I know people can be allergic to themselves! I have a friend who is allergic to her own skin cells! I honestly ignore if that would be the case with animals, cats in your case, but if you google it you might come across a few sites. Best of luck!
www.our-happy-cat.com/cat-allergy.html - is one of them.

Is it really possible to get rid of cat allergies?

It would depend on how strong the alergy to the cat is. And that's hard to tell.

In the meantime, they have kitty wipes and shampoos to help with the problem. I would recommend you pick up both. (there is a foaming shampoo that requires no water to use, I'd start with that stuff)

See if that helps. I'd recommend using the alergen wipes every time your husband and the cat are going to be in the same room.

Also, treat your husband too! See if Claratin will help. (It's a livesaver with my husband)

I am alergic to cats myself, but my own cats never bother me. When I first take a cat in my eyes water and I sneeze, but after a few weeks, those symptoms are gone and I've gotten "used" to the cat.

You've only had the cat for six days. Try the wipes and the foam shampoo. But, there is also a good chance that your husband's body will realize the cat is there to stay and will "adujust"

Best of luck!

It is possible to get pneumonia from cat allergies?

No, pneumonia is an infection. You have to catch it, it would not develop on its own as a result of allergies.

Are cat allergies possible with dogs?

Yes, it is possible for a dog to be allergic cats. However, allergies in dogs rarely manifest in respiratory problems but usually result in itchiness and skin/ear problems. It is much more likely that you dog has kennel cough or, at his age, is starting to have heart trouble. A vet check is in order.

Is it possible to be allergic to one cat and not another?

It has to do with either your familiarity with the animal (how long you are around it, etc.) along with other issues such as the dander, the length of the fur, etc. For me, that's pretty much how it was for cats and dogs.

When I used to be severely allergic to dogs, certain dogs would make my eyes tear up and my nose go awry at the very instant of being exposed. Then again I would be around another dog with absolutely no issues.

Same thing with cats. I noticed the cats with very long coats tended to give me issues more than cats with shorter coats. It also has to do with how well the owners choose to groom their animals-- if their pets are being groomed on a regular basis such as brushing, washings, etc. you will have fewer problems.

Is it possible to overcome cat allergy?

My mom was allergic to cats but now since we welcomed a kitten into our home she isn't at all! There are also shampoos that you apply to a kittens fur and it stops a persons allergies all together! You just put it on your cat and dont have to rinse.

Is it possible for a person allergic to cats to overcome their allergies over time?

Possible? Sure. Is there a guarantee? No.Check with an allergist if there is a shot available for you to treat or possibly cure your allergy to cats. I am moderately (when tested for allergy, it’s usually rated as mildly allergic, moderately allergic, or highly allergic) allergic to cats but I still keep our cats. In my situation, cats trigger my asthma, however, my asthma and allergy specialist doesn’t require me to stay clear of them because I am allergic to a lot of other things too (perfect score in the allergy test, most of which are “highly allergic to”) and not having cats around will not solve my allergy issues. Instead, I get weekly shots for years and make sure that both my allergy and asthma are under control. I also have my emergency meds with me at all times.See a specialist soon. Conditions vary from person to person. What I am sharing is just based from personal experience which may or may not be applicable to your situation.

Is it possible to be allergic to cats but not dogs?

Oh, yeah, I was definitely allergic to cats (don’t know if I am still, but when I was younger, I was 100% allergic).I went to one of my friends’ birthday sleepover party and she had a cat that shed hair everywhere. For the first hour, I was fine. Few hours though, my throat got congested, barely could breathe right, and my eyes were watering to the point where my friend’s mom called my mom up and asked, “Are you sure she doesn’t have cat allergies?” And my mom on the phone answered, “No” while I was struggling to even breathe around the house. They had to end up taking me to the guest room where there was the least amount of dander in the house so that I can sleep there without having to worry about sneezing all night.

Is it possible to desensitize myself from my cat allergies by spending time with them?

I grew up with 5 cats and never had allergy symptoms until I went away to college and came back and developed some rashes. After a few days , they disappeared. Now (at 33) I just got 2 new kittens and my allergies are real bad (runny nose, sneezing, eyes, etc.). Is it possible that with time, my allergies will go away or is this permanent? Hoping not the latter, but may be a reality that I need to face. I'll prb. head to an allergist butr looking to see if anyone had firsthand experience about this? Thanks for your help! Doug

Is it possible to become allergic to cats as an adult, even when you have grown up with cats?

Yes, it is possible. And it is not a cat to be blamed or a concrete type of cat, but lower efficiency of our immune system. It can happen for example due to temporary infection or because of getting down the immune system because of some antibiotics or simply weaker condition of your body (work overload, lack of good sleep, stress, and other burdens). It can be also a question of exposure, sometimes you can get allergy to a cosmetic you have been using for 10 years, because the body had enormous "patience" to a given substance, that finally irritated an immune system.all the best!PS - I had a similar case personally! I got rid of a problem by eating only organic food and levelling up the immune system to work normally.
