Potty Training My Puppy

How long did it take to potty train your puppy?

I got my chesapeake bay retriever when he was 12 weeks old. The breeder really hadn't done any potty training with him, but it only took about a week for him to get the hang of it.
I crated him at night-he never messed in his crate. Took him out first thing in the morning, gave him tons and tons of praise every time he went to the bathroom outside, and watched him like a hawk while he was inside-I caught him at every attempt he made to go to the bathroom in the house and immediately said "outside! lets go outside!" and took him outside ASAP while he was still in the act.

I think it was also due to our labrador's help-I'm pretty sure that by watching our lab and hanging out with him he learned that business is done outside, and standing by the door means they get to go out.

How do you potty train a puppy for a Big Rig?

What size is your dog? I was over the road with a chihuahua for years and I have to tell you I did use puppy pads. As you know there are times when you simply can't stop and a litter box takes up too much room and there's a chance that it will get tipped over.

My dog didn't experience any confusion about going outside when we could stop but the pads made it easy clean up for those times when you have to press on.

We loved having our dog with us, it made the miles a little easier. Good luck and enjoy.

Potty training a Jackapoo puppy ?

I have a jack russell chihuahua mix and I have been working on potty training him as well. What has helped me is that I have regulated the water intake, because a trainer told me that dogs drink water and store it in the body so they need to drink a few times a day, but not all day. Since these dog's bladders are relatively small, when you leave the water out all day and allow them to drink constantly they are more prone to have an accident in the house. I take my dog out about every 2 hours and he is now almost fully trained, if you keep up what you are doing and maybe regulate water intake a bit, your dog should be able to get the idea completely within a few weeks.

So my puppy is 28 days old. Should I start potty training him now?

I've never started one so early, but it doesn't hurt I guess. You may want to ask your vet. When you do start training, they should be immediately taken outside when they wake up and after eating. Stay right with them and say ‘go potty’ or whatever verbiage you choose. This should happen every two hours. They will pick it up quickly, but don't ever get angry if they have an accident. It's almost always because you didn't get them outside quick enough. Their little bladders are not capable of complete control this early, and excitement (or anything) can make them piddle. Good luck.

How do you potty train a Shiranian puppy?

Schedule your puppy’s trips outdoors. The average puppy needs frequent opportunities to eliminate. Start first thing in the morning with a trip outside as soon as your puppy awakens. Puppies feel the call of nature about every hour when they are awake and playing. They need to go out soon after eating, and after drinking waterEvery time you take your puppy outside, give her plenty of cues. As you walk out the door with her, say “Let’s go outside.” Take her to her spot, and repeat your cue phrase as she is about to eliminate. (Be sure to use a phrase that does not come up in every day conversation. Avoid cues such as “be a good dog” in favor of something more specific, such as “go.”) When she goes, praise her enthusiastically and reward her with a very small food treat, right there on the spot. After several repetitions of this routine, your puppy will learn to eliminate on cue (very useful in bad weather or strange places) and learn that eliminating outside is more fruitful than eliminating inside. After a week of this, continue to praise the puppy every time she goes outside, but reward with food on a more random basis. In a couple of weeks, you won’t need the food reward at all.

Potty Training Puppy Apartment Reviews?

I've recently purchased a PTPA for my dachshund puppy. (I purchased a champion sired purebreed from MN on 5/18/2011). Supposedly they are the most stubborn breed of dog to train (potty train or training in general), however, within a few days my puppy, Nathan, knew what to do. I live in Brooklyn, NY but work on Wall street & do not have the time to crate train the pup. In addition, new pups are susceptible to diseases such as rabies or Canine parvovirus (CPV) before they are fully vaccinated (which will take months) & it is recommended that they stay indoors. I'd rather kill two birds with one stone & also potty train the dog while he completes his booster shot regimen. The puppy apartment comes with an instructional DVD that explains HOW to use the PTPA effectively & properly. I purchased the PTPA based on the youtube video alone, but was surprised to learn that there were actually levels of training involved. Trust me, dogs are intelligent & will know what to do when you finally take them outside. Simply feed them, then immediately take them outside until they "go". Then reward them with a treat & praise. That's all. Anyone saying something negative about this product is just jealous they didn't think of it first. I almost kicked myself on the missed opportunity. Do the next best thing & try it for yourself.
