Proposing Business Ideas For College

Is it legal to 'steal' a business idea?

If what you mean is “"is it legal to exploit someone else’s idea” then the simple answer is “yes”, but most people would consider it morally questionable. Of course, if the idea is patented, copyrighted or under some other form of protection then of course it would not be legal. On the moral/ethical front, then you may wish to consider where you came across the idea. Obviously, if it had been told to you in confidence then you would be breaking that confidence, which might or might not be illegal. If it were just out there, in the public domain, then I guess it would be fair game - after all, anyone who makes a commercial idea public knowledge, without protection,is asking to have it “stolen”, and I can't see blame being attached to that.Seems like the decision is down to you and your conscience.

What could be the unique software or product based business ideas to start for Indian educational industries (used by schools and colleges)?

1. A feature to organize 'Quiz competitions' among same-grade-students from other schools which uses the same software. Students are the ones who make questions related to their syllabus and at the end of each quiz competition they share their answers which is a great learning experience!2. Schools can organize something similar to 'Ted Talks' using the software. It can be a nation-wide school collaboration feature with a dashboard - polls, trends, inventions etc. by students. This helps sharing the knowledge between schools.A well designed SaaS model will do the rest ;)

How do I convince my parents to let me dropout of college and start a business?

First make absolutely sure that you owe them nothing. No insurance payments, no lodging, nothing. IF they paid for your education they have some sort of right to mention that you effectively took monies under false pretenses which could be a crime. Do you live at home? Move out. Pay all your own expenses. Do not ask them for a penny. Offer to pay back ALL the monies they’ve spent on you. Try and prepare some sort of chart that will attempt to show them that your proposed business endeavor has some chance of success. I assume you’re over 18 so they can say and do whatever they wish as can you. What’s you’re asking for is the magic phrase that will release you from what seems to be guilt knowing what an emotional as well as financial investment they’ve made in you. You don’t seem to even have a business to start so it’s rather understandable that they won’t take this news well. Again, after the fight dies and you’ve gone on your way, I hope you have access to food and lodging; Without those two, starting anything will be almost impossible. And, for the sake of God….please don’t let this be a YouTube venture…..but you’re young, probably get your education from something stuck to your ear and have been told by your friends that, ‘WOW dude, that is such a cool idea…..”I wish you a lot of good luck, you'll need it and my condolences to your parents who now must face they fact that they seemingly have raised a child who learned nothing from them other than, again, whatever is on Facebook or in that gadget that is, effectively, in your brain.

High School Business Teacher needs help!?

I taught business and information technology for a while as a second career. Before that I had decades of experience in high tech and international marketing.

I am now an entrepreneur.

Some things that I did in some of my classrooms...

I did an excel spreadsheet project titled: "Who wants to be a millionaire." This project taught some excel skills and showed quantitatively the longterm effect of saving vs. spending.

I also ran an entire semester worth of "The Apprentice."

I divided the class in to two teams and each had to run a "real" business for the entire semester - the full cycle from business planning through execution.

The teams had executives and other functions (sales, marketing, accounting) that reflected those commonly found in businesses.

One of the teams (the winning team), created a "MytownOpoloy" game using a vendor. Sales of the game earned enough money (thousands) to fund an ongoing yearly "laptop scholarship" for college bound seniors at the school.

I would also often use activities common to some business meetings (ice breaker activities) as warm up exercises.

I'll try to think of some more...

You are welcome to email me if you think I might be of some help... It would be my pleasure!

***UPDATE:

Does your school have a FBLA, BPA or DECA chapter? If not, you might want to look into starting one up.
