Private police focus on private justice (such as firing embezzlers or issuing no tresspassing warnings to shoplifters) rather than public court proceedings; and private property rather than public property

Private police do not have the ability to arrest civilians, unless they are also peace officers; in South Carolina all Security Officers have the authority and power to arrest

What are the pros and cons of community policing?

Pro---It has to be done in certain conditions.

con could leave ope vigilantism

What are the pros and cons of consolidating police agencies?

Pros: Very cost effective. You would need less buildings, less support staff, less command staff, ect.

Cons: Less positive community interaction with the police department. Smaller areas with less crime probably won't see a police car drive around as much as when that town used to have a police department.

What are the pros and cons of the Problem-oriented policing and the Community- oriented policing?

Hmm..good question. I recall reading about this in a textbook once, maybe you should do the same.

What are the pros and cons of being a police officer?

Some pros:It is a highly exciting job and is different day by day and even hour by hour. You get to help victims of crimes. You get criminals off the streets. You get to save lives. There are all kinds of opportunity for advancement depending on your department size. The pay is usually quite good. You develop a second family, your fellow officers. It is a noble job. There is great job security. Most departments will reimburse you for college courses taken while on the force. You get involved in the community and find solutions for problem solving. You are not stuck behind a desk.A lot of departments have take home cars and your car is your office.Cons:Starting out you may change shifts many times which can reek havoc on your sleep schedule. If you are not careful you can be injured or killed although this is rare.People will look at you differently.  People will want to be your friend just to be able to say Joe the police officer is my friend.Friends may try to ask you to help them get out of traffic tickets, which you can't.Interrupted meals.Al in all I have been in it for over 35 years and love every aspect of it.  Most departments have ride along plans where you can arrange to ride with an officer for a shift to see what it is really like.  This might be a good plan for you.

Pros and Cons of Internal Affairs Units?

okay, so the IAU receives complaints against police officers, what are pros and cons of this? I know that a pro would be better police officers...what are some cons?

Pros and Cons of Police Traffic Function?

I guess the most important reason to investigate a traffic crash is because a traffic crash is a crime and there is a victim. The advantage is to help the victim, by requiring the person who broke the law to pay for the damages. Roughly 35,000 people a year are killed in traffic crashes. The majority of the at fault drivers are drunk/high and/or speeding.

No known disadvantages

The traffic enforcement function fulfills the needs of the community for law enforcement. The traffic function takes the place today of broken windows policing. (if the police can enforce the minor rules, then more people will obey the major rules) Communities with strict traffic enforcement have lower crime rates than cities without.

The traffic unit will typically arrest more felons than all of the other law enforcement units (including SWAT and major crimes). As you can imagine a person who won't obey the law for murder certainly won't obey traffic laws. When they are stopped for traffic violations the traffic officer may find they have a warrant or may observe clues of a crime.

Some of the more important criminals caught by traffic officers include; Tim McVeigh, Ted Bundy, Mohamed Atta (sadly not arrested because the computer was down that showed he had a warrant) etc.
