Ps3 Making Weird Noise While Playing And Putting It Vertically

PS3 fan going really loud, then consule turning itself off on its own and beeping 3 times?

It sounds like it's going to Yellow Light of Death (YLOD) on you soon and I bet that was a warning. When the fan went loud, did you have a disc inside? If there was a disc inside, besides being loud, did it also make a geary/whirry sound? That's a very bad sound. The worst your system can make. It means it wants to overheat or will. The cooling fans are a waste of money. The YLOD of is a major hardware failure by the way. It can occur from overheating, HDD issues, CPU/GPU issues and other main component issues.

Honestly, if anything; consider purchasing an external HDD (formatted to FAT32. Anything you plug into the PS3 should be formatted to FAT32 or the PS3 won't have any idea what it is) backing up your PS3's entire HDD onto it using the Backup Utility in the system Settings and simply buying a brand new Slim. Get the 160GB. Those old Fat models are overdue to get the YLOD now. I'm surprised yours hasn't yet. Get that external HDD ASAP because once the PS3 YLOD, you CANNOT get ANY data back. It's impossible. Don't even bother getting it repaired. It costs on average $150 + shipping/handling +tax. It just isn't worth it when you can buy a brand new 160GB Slim for $249.99 +tax. Trust me on this, the Slims are WAY better than their old Fat models. They redesigned the Slims to be 33% (maybe a little more now with the new 160GB and 320GB due to a change of the GPU) smaller, lighter, quieter and more efficient (efficient as in you'll actually save money on power bills compared to the Fat models.) Not to mention the Slims are also way faster and overall perform a lot better. Not to mention its WAY harder for them to get the YLOD and on average should last 7 years. I'll post a link in here on how to Backup your PS3's HDD onto an external HDD for you. It will also show you how to put that BACK onto your new PS3 (he will use the same PS3 because he just did an HDD upgrade, but it's the exact same thing if your going to put it onto a different PS3 (Slims as well, don't worry.) Just trust me on this. You won't regret it. And it's way better to be safe that sorry here. Do all that ASAP. This actually happened to my buddy and he lost all of his data and his PS3 gave him warnings similar to that (he had the 40GB) and shortly afterwards his system got the YLOD and he lost everything and could do nothing about it.

Hope that helps.

My PS4 fan is loud after five minutes of playing games?

Nope.

If you have an imbalanced fan, it may be a little noisier than it is designed to be, but not very likely.

What you can do to reduce the noise is stop using it:

The fan is there to cool the processor as electricity conducts better at lower temperature and overheating causes a drastic increase in the electrical impedence, or resistance, making the processor stop working.

So the fan is integral to the function of the machine.

Get headphones.

Should a fat PS3 be vertical or horizontal for best cooling?

That's odd - I have the same model as you and mine started doing this about a week ago :/

Mine was laid flat when it started, I turned it vertically and the fans continued for a few days and now it appears to be fine again. I'd say vertically is best for cooling - that way a higher surface area is available to be cooled (ie, not touching the floor which will act as an insulator) and so it should cool faster this way.

My PS4 is overheating excessively. How can I fix it?

So this worked for me, it might for some of you and it might not for others. My PS4 is a launch model from the day it came out back in 2013, so it has been out of warranty for two years now.Recently, my PS4’s fan also stopped working - as a result it overheats rapidly and shuts off. I recently took it to a friends house, so I wondered if something was damaged in transit. While powering up, I could hear the fan attempt to turn on, but it made a click as if something was jamming it or getting in its way of spinning.I initially decided to just shoot compressed air into the vents as I thought a big chunk of dust was jamming the fan. However, a gut intuition told me to open up the machine - as it was now long out of warranty, voiding it was no longer a concern. When I got it open, I spun the fan manually with my finger - there was a little bit of resistance at first, but it made a “click” and spun free again. It seemed that the fan was out of alignment and was caught up against something, by manually moving the fan it snapped back into place and was free to function again.Long story short, it appears the PS4’s fan can be knocked out of place during transport.

PS3 loud fan noise Normal in my situation or not?

I have a 40GB PS3. I had it repaired about 3 months ago. It was repaired for the lens and the thermal compound or something. I asked them about the dust, they said there wasn't a lot of dust to begin with so that's fine. Anyways, I'm playing La Noire. The fan gets loud 15-20 minutes into the game. Then when I get tired, I go back to the PS menu and in about 2-3 minutes, the fan goes back to normal.

I'm thinking of getting Uncharted 1 and 2. I have blockbuster's game pass. I know those games make your PS3 work hard. In the end, will my PS3 work fine and such? Is the fan noise sounding like a hairdryer normal? Then when I go back to the PS menu it goes back to normal?

I just need some insight on this. My PS3 is vertical in a well ventilated area. I'd rather not have it horizontal as there isn't a lot of air space for it. So yeah, just let me know what you know. Thanks!!!

PS3 Fan noise Issue?? (Read!?)?

Hi,
i have had a "Fat" 80GB PS3 since 2009, and about 3-5 months ago, i noticed it to be making a loud, irritating fan noise after about 15-20 minutes gameplay. This happened during the summer period, so i assumed it would stop when it wasn't as hot. I don't use the PS3 an awful lot, or at least not as much as some people. I probably vary between 14 to zero hours a week of use. I vacumed it, placed it on a raised platform, used a hairdryer on it, cover it up when not in use to no avail. It has loads of "Breathing" room.

Recently (About a month and a half ago) we got our computer Technician to have a look at it. I think he opened it up, gave it a clean, replaced the thermal paste and said it was fine and there was nothing wrong with it. And unfortunately, when i tried it the next day, it still made the loud noise. At that point, i simply put it down to it being an old (ish) system. Although once when it got loud, i left it on the XMB menu and it the fan noise actually ramped down a few notches (Got quieter...) A few days later, i did the "Fan test" on the PS3, and nowadays, whenever i leave it on the XMB menu, it never goes down a few notches. Is this because i did the fan test, or was it just a minor miracle when the noise went down?
Another quick question- I am planning to buy a set of turtle beach headphones for the PS3- Will this almost fully drown out the sound of the PS3 fan?
Finally...
-Please don't reply saying i'm going to Get YLOD... If i was going to get that, i'm pretty sure it would've happened by now, as the noise has been going on for a while!

Thanks for reading! Please reply, 10 PTS Given, or any other useful info you could provide!!
