Putting Premium Gas In A Base Model Grand Prix Bad Does It Help Engine

Do i have to use premium gas in a 2004 prontiac grand prix gtp?

Your car is supercharged, and will need premium gas to prevent damage.

A few more dollars each time you get gas is ALOT cheaper than buying a new engine.

What type of gas for a 07 Grand Prix gxp?

Hello,

I did consult the Owner's Manual and found this for fuel specifications regarding the 07 Grand Prix on pages 338-339. If you have the 5.3L V8, it does recommend premium unleaded gasoline with a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. It does say that Octane of 87 may be used but acceleration would be somewhat slower and a possible bumping noise may be noticeable. A dealership would be an excellent source for such advice if you're still unsure or have concerns/questions. I hope all is going well. Regards!

Gasoline Octane
If your vehicle has the 3800 V6 engine
(VIN Code 2), use regular unleaded gasoline with
a posted octane rating of 87 or higher. If the
octane rating is less than 87, you may notice an
audible knocking noise when you drive, commonly
referred to as spark knock. If this occurs, use a
gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher as soon
as possible. If you are using gasoline rated
at 87 octane or higher and you hear heavy
knocking, your engine needs service.

If your vehicle has the 3800 Supercharged V6
engine (VIN Code 4) or the 5.3L V8 engine (VIN
Code C), use premium unleaded gasoline with
a posted octane rating of 91 or higher. You may
also use regular unleaded gasoline rated at
87 octane or higher, but your vehicle’s acceleration
may be slightly reduced, and you may notice a
slight audible knocking noise, commonly referred
to as spark knock. If the octane is less than
87, you may notice a heavy knocking noise when
you drive. If this occurs, use a gasoline rated
at 87 octane or higher as soon as possible.
Otherwise, you might damage your engine. If you
are using gasoline rated at 87 octane or higher
and you hear heavy knocking, your engine needs
service.

Can i put premium fuel in my cadillac deville?

premium is good for any car. Its better to run a tank full once a month or better because of the higher octane.
It helps keep things cleaner also.
Its the same thing as going and buying a bottle of octane boost.

Putting premium gas in a base model grand prix bad? does it help engine?

Premium gas has higher octane, that means less volatile, or less tendency to turn to vapor.
Thats why it is said to decrease preignition, detonation.

If your owners manual does not specify a higher octane number,
It will not be necessary. You would be wasting your money.
Using it could not increase any power or performance gains for you unless you had modified an engine and its timing curve, Or redesigned the head to change the shape of the combustion chamber, or changed it with different pistons.

Man, I never get tired of answering that question.

How long does it take to repair a head gasket?

You don’t repair a head gasket, you replace it.Once I had a rally car - a bit of a ratty old junker if the truth be told - that had a 2.3 litre overhead cam engine. It was a bit like this, only this one is way nicer:Anyway I was heading off to do a rally on some Friday night. On the Thursday, the day before, I took it out for a blast around the lanes to shake down any last-minute faults, and blew the head gasket. It was too late to do anything about it that night, so next morning, I got up at the crack of dawn, stripped the engine down to the point of having the head off (it was OHC, so that involved also removing the cambox, timing belts, etc. plus the exhaust manifold, inlet manifold and carburettors) By then it was almost 9am, so I drove to the nearest big town - 25 miles away - to get a replacement head gasket set. 25 miles back, and by 10am had the head all cleaned and ready to be reassembled. Engine back together and running by 12pm, I then had to drive it 250 miles to where the rally started. It all went smoothly and I made it with plenty of time to spare. So the answer to your question, for me, on that occasion, for this car, was about 6 hours, including an hour to fetch the parts. Sometimes what you need, apart from the basic skills, which in my case don’t amount to all that much, is a great big incentive! As I recall, the rally ended in disaster, but that’s another story.

I mistakenly put a 2 cycle mixture in my Honda gas generator. Should I just empty the gas tank or can I run it out?

How much?A full tank?If it’s not a full tank then fill the remainder with regular gas and you should be good to go. Most 2-stroke oil burns very well and will probably not smoke much at all. As the fuel burns down just keep filling it up with the regular gas and you’l keep diluting the 2-stroke mix.If it is a full tank then let it run with the pre-mix …see what happens. 2-stroke oil is designed to burn with little to no deposits on the plug. With a generator, the engine will run at a constant, relatively high speed so the probability the plug fouls will be pretty slim. The only thing that might develop would be deposits on the exhaust valve. To help mitigate that, keep adding regular fuel as the tank fuel level drops.

What does it mean when a car is running "rich"?

In it's simplest terms, a car that is running "rich" has too much gas entering the combustion chamber of the engine. This problem can be caused by a host of different problems but one of the more common caues is a faulty oxygen sensor. If your car engine is running rich you will experience the following symptoms: decreased gas mileage, increased emissions, and at times decreased engine performance. Neglecting to fix a rich fuel condition can cause carbon buildup on your spark plugs and may lead to premature wear of your emission systems.

2006 Pontiac Grand Prix type of fuel?

Base model V6 engines will run on 87 octane. You can resource your service manual in your vehicle or see an online pdf version at http://www.extendedgmwarranty.com/owners-manual/pontiac/2006-Pontiac-GrandPrix.pdf

What kind of gas does a 04 Pontiac GTO take?

Once again people, if you don't know don't answer...

The recommended fuel for the GTO is Premium. But as someone posted, the computer will adapt to lower octane. I run regular in my GTO all the time and it's fine.

Sorry to disagree w/ you spinner, but the knock sensor is part of the engine control system. If you're going to nitpick...

And regular will NOT build up carbon faster than premium. In fact, the reverse is true. Regular actually burns hotter than premium, which is why you can't advance the ignition timing or bump up the compression in the first place.

GM says 'recommended', not 'required'. They are the experts, I'll defer to them, thank you!

Can regular unleaded fuel be used in a supercharged engine without causing harm?

I looking at buying a 2000 buick regal that has a supercharged engine. It is in mint condition and is priced good. The only drawback that I can see is that it is supposed to take premium fuel only. My dad, who has a buick park avenue with the same kind of engine has only run regular unleaded in his and has had no major problems yet (he has only had it a few months). What do you think? Do I have to use the premium in it and end up spending more on gas, or chance it and use the regular? I know it is recommended for a good reason, but what would happen if I used the reg. fuel? i dont want to screw up the engine...
