Question About Filmmaking

How to get into filmmaking?

I'm 16 and want to make travel and surf documentaries. I have experience in music and photography. The only camera I currently own is a Canon EOS Rebel SL2 DSLR with the 18-55mm kit lens. I don't know of any filmmakers in my area so it's hard to get experience.

I have a filmmaking question?

It means out of chronological order.
One reason a filmmaker would shoot out of continuity would be if they only have access to a certain location or actor for a limited time so they finish all of their shots right away even if they come at different times in the film.

Filmmaking Question: Lighting for a tracking shot?

You have to light it all, all the area that the panning or tracking shot will see, including inside the car and even the interior of the house they are entering. It can take days to light a scene which might be on the screen for 10 seconds. You shoot multiple takes from various angles under that same lighting to give you alternative footage that you can use in the edit.

I've seen whole streets lit if it's a main part of the story you are telling and it's worth spending the money on it, including changing the Sodium lighting to Mercury Vapour lights to keep the colour balance, scaffolding, electricians, safety men, security etc. etc.

Lighting is the main reason why films are so expensive to make and why it can actually be cheaper to re-create the whole scene in a studio where it's easier to control the lighting.

Colour balance will have to match all the other scenes in this sequence or edits become obvious. You record all the clips that can use this lighting setup, even if they occur in another part of the film. That's why you spend weeks perfecting the shooting schedule. You have to plan all the lighting for every shot, every clip before you even hire the crew.

What are the questions asked in an interview in for the Film and Television Institute of India (FTII) if applying for direction (films)?

What I know for certain is not everyone is asked the same questions. But, there's a trick. Remember the entrance paper you write. It will give you a contour of the domain around which questions will be asked.Be honest and accept that you don't know. Candour is highly valued. Imperfections are accepted.State your ideas quite clearly and unambiguously.Don't covet the seat or be desperate.Talk passionately on why cinema is so special for you. Be respectful to the craft and art.And above all, be yourself. Seize that window to talk about one film or a documentary u dearly love and why you love it and rest of the questions may not matter.

Film studies question please help!!!?

Continuity is a big part of filmmaking. If you're shooting a short film or interview, it's important to set the scene and establish your characters in space and time in order for the viewer to follow the action. One of the most basic continuity rules is the 180 Degree Rule.

The 180 Degree Rule states that two characters in a scene should always have the same left/right relationship to each other. If you don't follow the 180 Degree Rule, or break it intentionally, it disrupts the scene disorients the audience. When you break the 180 line, a person who was originally facing left in a scene is all of the sudden facing right. Wait! When did they switch places?

What successful jobs can I pursue with a filmmaking degree?

Depends on what skills you acquire and how good you are as a “film maker.” There are plenty of jobs in the film industry in post production (film editing, film colorist, etc.). There are also jobs in the TV and TV studio industry.
