Question Regarding Me Longboard .

Longboard questions!?

So I am new to longboarding and I have a few questions about my board for you more experienced ones. Me and my sister have two longboards, one is a Quest and one is a Paradise. We share them both but since i am the less experienced one of us, I use the Quest more often because its trucks aren't as loose and the Paradise is a pretty advanced board to ride. So I have been using the Quest longboard and was wondering if my board is actually any good? Does it have good bearings or should I get better ones? And is there any way to make it ride longer?
So here are the details:
Quest Super Cruiser Artisan Bamboo Longboard -

Deck size/dimensions: 44 inches x 10 inches x 5.5 inches
Wheel size/hardness: 70mm x 51mm
Bearings: ABEC 5
Truck: 7-inch aluminum inverted kingpin
Wheel hardness: 80A
Materials: 5-ply artisan bamboo and hardwood maple deck

Thanks!

My parents wont let me longboard?

My parents won't let me longboard home. I used to until I got a d in spanish. But its hard to learn cause I already know two languages. I thought of leaving my moms car door open so the battery dies and she would have to charge it up. But I need a good excuse, cause I don't have anything fun to do afterschool.

Is it hard to learn to longboard?

If you already have fairly good coordination, you'll get the hang of it in 20 minutes. When I first started, my biggest trouble was lifting a foot off and putting the heel on the ground to stop, especially when I was moving quickly. The worst habit to pick up is to just jump off the board instead of stopping with your heel properly. It shows a lack of control and you won't progress. Practicing stopping is just as important as learning balance. I was long boarding pretty confidently after about 2-3 weeks. I was learning new techniques and tricks a few months in. Carving is easy, sliding and high speeds will come later on. I'd say give it a month with the basics; learning to carve and stop. If you board every day then the new coordination will set in faster.

Should I get a longboard or a skateboard?

I had never even though about gettign a longboard before I saw this couple at the beach riding them. It looked easier than skateboarding, but it could have just been me. I've heard skateboards are better for tricks, because of their smaller size and what not. But I'm not really interested in doing any complicated tricks (if any at all) I really only want one because I live in a really small town and I feel like it's a waste of gas (plus extra pollution) to take my car places a mile from my house, but I think I'd get sick of having to chain up a bike.

How do I organize a bad-ass longboarding trip?

Oahu is your place to go. There is an old Hawaiian guy that works the beach there. He charges $10 a lesson. If he is still there you will be shocked at his swimming skills. I learned from him, I am sure he was like the surfing champ of the 60's. He was about 50 yo when I learned how to surf from him. I was in my early 20's, in top physical shape, an athlete myself and this man swam much faster than I did. If he is still there you will be happy you learned from him.

How to convince my parents to let me longboard?

I found a really good board to start with and I have been doing my research. I have a REALLY old skateboard that barely runs but I practiced on so I can balance and learn to push off and stuff. My parents won't let me buy a board even if I am paying for it, bc they say I already have a skateboard, and that I will not even use the longboard if I buy it. I told them I will never know if I like something unless I try it, and that if they aren't buying the board they aren't losing anything. How do I convince my parents to let me longboard?

How do I convince my parents to let me longboard?

Well, you can explain to them that longboards are not designed or intended to do all of the foolish tricks people attempt on a skateboard. You can also explain that longboards are generally more stable and controlled at higher speeds, and that they have much better handling than a skateboard, so it is easier to avoid colliding with other people. Also, longboards are smaller and more portable than bikes, so you can easily throw it in the back of a car, unlike a bicycle.

the other thing you can do is tell (and show) them how responsible you will be. wear a helmet, don't take major risks, things like that. it really sells it to parents when you show them that you wont be an idiot on your board.

Your longboarding (skate) and your stopped by the cops?

John F... thanks for the effort... but im neither a punk nor scrawny. You grew up in the 60's but this is 2008...where a cop doesn't care if your "sidewalk surfing" they dont care who you are... if there stopping a kid skating down a sidewalk i guarantee you they have nothing better to do and they just want to harass us. Trust me i've been there more than once. In miami if you run from a cop, doesn't matter if you kiss his a$$ after he catches you... you're gonna be put in jail for a few hours after they realize they can't pin anything on you. You might have age... but we all have experience. Thats why I pick up my board and walk. If a cop tries to beat me down for walking then who's wrong? Not all cops are crooked and the ones who are going to hurt a kid for skating down the street are in BIG trouble.

THUNDERandFLASH... don't let a cop push you around... you know you did nothing wrong. Just pick up your board.. apologize and walk away.

"I spent lots of time running from the cops, but I was never disrespectful when they caught me"- John F

I wish that was the case for everyone who ran from a cop.

How can i convince my parents to buy me a longboard?

First of all, it's pretty awesome that you want to learn how to surf. And it's great that you are asking your parents for something that is actually useful (most kids want a new phone or video games.) If you really want this, take a few minutes (even a few days if you have to) to think of some logical reasons why you should have this. Reasonably relate these reasons to your parents, and try to be mature about it. Here is something you could say:

"Hey Mom and Dad, you work really hard to get me the things I want and I really appreciate that. I really want to get a long board. I know it sounds stupid, and I know you have told me you don't want to get it, but I really think it would be a lot of fun and make some great memories. Summer is coming up and I want to enjoy it, if you could just do this one thing for me, I PROMISE I won't ask for anything for a long time. Please think about this, and whatever you decide I will understand."

I would tell them this when they are in a good mood. You could even write them a letter...which is kind of lame. But, when I was younger I use to write my parents a letter describing reasonable reasons why I wanted something, and most of the time they said yes. And my parents always said no to everything and they were really strict, so the letter thing really works. Hope this helps my friend, and I hope you'll be out on your new board ripping up some awesome waves soon!
