Questions About Intermittent Fasting

What is intermittent fasting?

Intermittent fasting isn't the kind of fasting that is done by people with eating disorders. This would not be for them. With intermittent fasting, you don't really restrict calories, you restrict the frequency that you eat each day. I do intermittent fasting and what I do is fast for 20 hours and eat for 4 hours. I mostly eat my regular low carb diet but during the 4 hour feeding window, i eat as much as I want. For example, I didn't eat until 3:00 today. I had 2 tiny lamb chops and greens that were cooked in coconut oil. For dinner which was about 3 hours later, I had a pice of steak, eggs, sliced tomato and lettuce salad. I ate some nuts and low carb yogurt,in between the 2 meals. I also had a V8 and plenty of water. Now I won't eat again until 3PM tomorrow. Basically I eat twice a day. Some people eat once a day or twice every 2 days. Everyone does it in a way that fits their health factorsIf you consider how cavemen or Native Americans, Aborigines etc. Those cultures that relied on the hunter gatherer lifestyle, did not eat 3 meals a day with a snack in between each meal. They ate once and gorged on their food because they had no idea when their next meal would be. They had no concept of diet, health, insulin, food pyramid, thyroid problems etc. All they had time for was survival and they survived quite well without the threat of diabetes or heart disease lurking over their shoulders. This is why scientists have been interested in looking into this concept.

Intermittent fasting 16:8?

So I’m on a journey to lose weight and I’ve come across intermittent fasting and have heard great things about it. I believe the 16:8 method would be the best for me but most people skip breakfast and eat lunch and dinner with this method. I personally would prefer to eat breakfast and lunch then skip breakfast. Would it still be “okay?” Thanks

Intermittent fasting?

If anything, intermittent fasting would slow your metabolism down. Because you'd go long periods of time, your body would go into starvation mode. That will tell your body to absorb and store any and all fats, causing you to gain weight.
800 Calories a day is NOT enough, especially if you are still growing. The ideal is 2,000 a day- you are not taking in half as many as you need.
If you gained 6 lbs and didn't notice it- why let it bother you? You are by no means overweight.
If you are truly worried about your weight, talk to your doctor. He went to med school to know about these things- he can tell you the best diet and exercise regimen for your body and lifestyle.
Like I said, your weight is quite healthy. Losing weight is not what you should worry about. Focus on loving your body- how can you not when you think about all the processes going on in your body every moment of every day?

How does intermittent fasting work for weight loss? Questions arise as various researches show that fasting slows down metabolism.

Fasting reduces leptin and therefore reduces HPT activity by reducing TRH, TSH production, T3, T4, and liver enzymes that convert T4 to T3.Fasting-induced changes in the hypothalamus-pituitary-thyroid axis.TRH is an appetite suppressant. If that is reduced then the appetite is suppressed less.Fasting every other day for 12 weeks caused 32 people to lose an average of 12 pounds more than those who followed a daily program of calorie restriction. These people ate 25% of their calories every other dayAlternate day fasting for weight loss in normal weight and overweight subjects: a randomized controlled trialPut simply simply, intermittent fasting means some of the time you do not eat and if you do not compensate or over compensate for this, then you lose weight
