Which college would take me? (see question details)

Its a tough call between Nirma university and L.D engineering college. U might be getting admission in college of dis cedars. Around these u ll be getting lower branches such as IC chemical or civil kind of branches. I hope u rather focus on ur branch than on college. N the system of admission doesnt let student understand the meaning of bramches. Rather u consult seniors of ur school and get to knwaabout ur future scopes in different branches.and analyse ur interest properly. U need to understand than taking a branch and its benifits . stick onto ur branch and work as hard as u can for this! All the best and if u dont get the info msg me without any fear.

College essay question..."What do you look for in a university"?

Well- its a very personal question, and they want a personal answer- I can't tell you what you look for in a university...YOU should know what YOU are looking for a university better than anyone else does.

But maybe to help you get you started think of some of the things that anyone might look for in a university- (majors, curriculum, class sizes, location, student life, opportunities to work closely with professors, contacts/job placement, academic reputation, reputation for being a top school in a field you want to go into, athletics, student diversity, etc...whatever makes the most sense for you)

Think of which of these you can write are important to you and then if you can, give examples of specific things at the college you are applying to that appeal to you and make you think it would be a good fit...

Does answering all optional essay question for a college on common app increase your chances of being accepted?

If you want to have a chance at a selective college, you should treat all optional or recommended things as mandatory and do your best to submit all the materials and present the strongest application possible - and that includes optional essays, “recommended, but not required” tests, additional recommendations, etc. Nothing is really optional when it comes to competitive college admissions. If you don’t use all the options available to you to tell the college about your background, credentials, interests and goals, what do you think would happen when your application is compared to the others who did submit the optional essays, recommended test scores, and additional recommendation letters?

How much do colleges really look at?

I'm going to create a high school student I'll call Johnny. Johnny thinks he's getting into Yale or Harvard. He gets the grades that he has because he'll always find a friend to copy off of. He is too lazy to do the work himself and his friends are smarter than he is.
He joins one of his high school's athletic teams to make himself look good. But he's no good at the sport he's in. He never does work outs with his team because he's simply too lazy. He never goes to practice. And he'll always find an excuse not to show up. He never competes at any of the meets that take place because he isn't good enough. He doesn't care if he's on JV as a senior because as far as he's concerned, the athletics will look really good on his college apps, and the transcript won't indicate whether he's on varsity or not. He thinks that his dream college won't care if he's good or not.

If colleges really only see what he thinks they'll see, and they let him in, it would be unfair on so many levels. What would really irk me is the athletics. Slackers like this person don't deserve to be accepted to someplace just because their transcript shows involvement in athletics. Shouldn't colleges be looking for participation in an athletics club outside of school? Shouldn't they be looking for achievements in the sport, and not just recognizing that this person participated in athletics? Please tell me what they'll really look at, and hopefully you'll tell me that the admissions offices aren't as shallow as some people think they are.

Do colleges look at if you took honors classes or not?

So I usually take honors high school classes and I accidentally put standard algebra two and I was going to switch to honors but then I saw I had the class with one of my friends. He would like me to stay and says colleges don’t look and see which you took but I think they do and I should switch. So do they check and see which you took? And also which would you think is better getting an A in standard or a B in honors?

Do colleges look at midterm grades???

the previous answers were somewhat confusing..

Do colleges look at suspensions on your school record?

I was wondering the same thing recently. I had an issue in middle school in which I had received disciplinary action, though I had nothing in high school. If your college is using the Common Application, then they will definitely ask about your high school record. The exact question asks:“Have you ever been found responsible for a disciplinary violation at any educational institution you have attended from the 9th grade (or the international equivalent) forward, whether related to academic misconduct or behavioral misconduct, that resulted in a disciplinary action? These actions could include, but are not limited to: probation, suspension, removal, dismissal, or expulsion from the institution”It will also ask if you have been found guilty of a misdemeanor or felony. If you have had high school disciplinary issues- including a suspension- they will look at that, and it’s in your best interest to own up to it and try to explain how you’ve changed since then. The same applies to any criminal record (however, you are not required to include anything that a judge has ruled to keep private. But you are not going to have issues with middle school or elementary school.

Do colleges look at Final grades of your Senior year?

There is a risk that if you fall down seriously, they could revoke your acceptance. And by that time, you would have turned down everyone else, so you would be stuck. This is more likely to happen at competitive schools with waiting lists, so that they can admit someone more deserving. It is unlikely to happen at a school concerned about admissions numbers.
