Ramadan Why Christians On Ramadan

Can a Christian try out Ramadan?

I am NOT trying to be a "peacemaker". I honestly want to try Ramadan this year. I am a Christian woman and I will be praising Jesus and God during my prayers, but fasting and practicing goodwill (which is awesome) like the Muslims do during this time of the year.

Is it considered a sin in Christianity if I try it out and make it like a version of Lent? I want this spiritual experience and I can't see myself converting. I would appreciate some insight from Christians, mostly, but advice from all other religions (and non-religious people) would be appreciated too.

Peace :)

Can a Christian celebrate Ramadan?

If I am not wrong, Christians already have something similar with fasting. Anyway, sure, you can do it. Many my Christian friends celebrate together with us when the fasting break come. I mean, they didn't fast, but they eat together with us during fasting break.

@BPK
"... of Abraham's son from a slave woman, Ismael..." <- God, your viewpoint really made me want to vomit. You still celebrate "slavery" thing? For Heaven sake! We all are human and Hagar is also a human. Stop discriminating people by noting she is slave or not. Is it what your religion teach you? I applaud you for your bigotry.

Why do some Christians fast with Musliums during Ramadan?

It is not common that I know about, and I've not heard of such a thing until your post. That said, the Coptic and Orthodox Christians have four major fasting seasons during the year, and it is possible where you have both Orthodox and Muslim populations in proximity some of their fasting times might overlap. Also it is possible if the Ramadan fast has deep enough cultural roots it might be one of those things just taken as part of the broader culture and adopted and observed in some particulars by non muslim populations. For example, only a small percentage of the Japanese people are Christian, but a great many Japanese celebrate Christmas because they like all the pageantry and gift giving.Another consideration might be that in places where a significant percentage has converted from Islam to Christianity they may retain some of their old religious customs in a new context. Finally, if you have Christians in a predominantly Islamic area they may observe the fast as a way of not  drawing attention to themselves in such a way as may be an offensive to their Islamic neighbors.

Is it wrong to kiss a Christian in Ramadan on the lips?

If you are asking Islamic point of view on this, It doesn’t matter the religion of the person, but the question is that, is it permissible for you to kiss that person. If it is your spouse, it is allowed to kiss on the lips during day time of Ramadan. During night there is no specific rule.

Ramadan: Arab Muslims, what do you think of Arab Christians ?

Salam..

I am not an Arab. But I know Arab Christians especially those in Lebanon and Syria who are aware of the filhty politics of global imperialism that sadly gives a bad image to the Christ.. So, they do not side with opressors, be them claim to be from their own religion.. That's why, you see most American so called Christians support Israel and help destruct Palestine, Lebanon and Syria.. But, Palestinian, Lebanese and Syrian Christians side with especially shia muslims against US, Israel and other arrogant powers..

A song by a Palestinian Christian for you.. She praises Hezbollah for protecting Palestinians and Lebanese from the crimes of Israel..

So, it is not like what you "see" in the news..
The Christians of the region side with real Muslims against world arrogant powers and their puppet regimes and salafi-wahabi terrorist gangs..
Maybe the westerners should check the sources other than what their governments show them..
And that way, they can have a more healthy view and understand why their fellow Christians are against these global powers and their policy in the middle-east..

e.g.: US and other western powers fund, train and arm captain cavemen against Syria and her people while same cannibals eat the hearts of both true muslims and christians in Syria and everywhere else.. But, do westerners object this filthy agenda of their governments?

I am a Christian. Am I allowed to eat during Ramadan?

This is a troll question right? If not, well then yes you can eat if your not muslim.

Can a christian tell "ramadan kareem" to a muslim?

yeb you are very nice good luck :)

It is Ramadan, will the Christians join and feel the bliss?

I didn’t know much about what it means to observe Ramadan, so I looked it up in Wikipedia. I was struck by this comment about how Muslims are obligated to behave during Ramadan:Muslims are also instructed to refrain from sinful behavior that may negate the reward of fasting, such as false speech (insulting, backbiting, cursing, lying, etc.) and fighting. So, when Ramadan is over, is it more tolerable to go back to sinful behavior and false speech like insulting, backbiting, cursing, lying, etc.? This idea that sinning is “especially forbidden” at certain times is foreign to Christianity. Also, in Christianity, fasting is associated with a time of sorrow, not bliss. So, to answer the question, I would say “respectfully no”, since it doesn’t appear to be in harmony with Christianity. Still, I acknowledge that it is an important and apparently celebratory time for Muslims, and I hope they enjoy it in peace.

Why has Ramadan fasting not evolved like the Christian and Jewish fast?

Actuallly…it didn't. Christian fasting is still practiced by the Eastern Orthodox. An observant Orthodox Christian, if otherwise healthy will eat only one modest meal on Wednesdays and Friday that is very simple. No meat, dairy, fish, wine or oil.  During the year there are 4 fasting seasons, Lent in spring, The Apostles fast in early summer, the Dormition fast in late summer. and the winter fast of 40 days leading up to the Holy Nativity.  In addition there are special days where nothing is supposed to be eaten…days of xerophaghi. These are the first two and a half days of Lent, Great and Holy Friday, and the Beheading of St. John the Forerunner.  All together that is over 200 days of some level of fasting. Orthodox monks are even more severe. They fast on Mondays as well, and tend to fast more strictly and severely on other occasions. Some eating a little only once a week. Others living on very restricted fare…a feast consisting of a spoonful of olive oil. A common meal for the late elder Sophrony, the spiritual son of St. Silouan, the Athonite, is said to have been two stalks of steamed asparagus…of course he had stomach troubles and had to be careful what he ate…still.  His own spiritual children who tended to his needs would remark on how very little he ever ate.Basically, it is western Christianity that gave up all or most of the tradition of Christian fasting.  The strictness of Ramadan was likely modeled upon the strictness of the fasting that existed in the Christian communities at the time of its founding. As for why a Muslim might use a standardized day for keeping Ramadan while in very far northern or southern extremes…I would imagine that they do, probably tying it the time of sunset in Mecca. But that said, my guess is in more temperate zones they just tough it out. Unlike the presuppositions of many western Christians I don't think Muslims view Islam assume the purpose of their faith is to make them comfortable, but rather to show them how to live.  The same is true with eastern Christianity…it is given as a whole life, not an accessory to it.

Ramadan: Islam moral code vs. Christian moral code?

I wouldn't say superior but I would say that the Islamic moral code is more effective than the Christian moral code. Al-hamdulilah, Islam is way of life that provides guidance, balance and peace through submission to the Lord, Allah SWT. Peace~!

And what I mean by effective is that there is less hatred, adultery, sins in general committed by Muslims because they know the ramifications of their actions.
