Reasons To Have A Laptop When In High School

Do I need a laptop for high school?

I'm going in to ninth grade, and my parents are convinced I don't need a laptop, but I think I do need one (and I'm not long to lie I do want one too) do I need one? And what are some reasons for getting one? I have some but I need more. Thanks! (I'm not trying to sound story and spoiled but I do think i need one)

Should I bring a laptop to high school?

After 6 weeks of high school, I’ve noticed that quite a few students at my school bring their own laptops to school, although my district provides all the students loaner Chromebooks for all 4 years of high school, and sometimes even for middle school. Most of these are Macbooks, usually Macbook airs, but sometimes Macbook pro.The main benefits behind bringing a personal laptop to school is that softwares installed on district Chromebooks don’t block websites you need to study (There have been multiple cases where videos I needed to watch for Biology or Computer Science were blocked by the software the school had installed onto the Chromebooks). In addition, people who bring laptops can use outside programs or download content directly onto their hard drive, because Chromebooks are fairly limited and cannot access many things offline due to low internal storag. In fact, our school’s Robotics team even encourages students to bring their personal computers (preferably not Chromebooks) because they are needed for programming. The problems with bringing a personal laptop to school are that it may get damaged, lost, or stolen, and you may get in trouble if you use it when you are not allowed to, which are responsibilities that come with any electronic device.Overall, you should bring your own computer to school because it doesn’t limit your usage of technology such as command prompt, Microsoft Office programs, or other apps. Plus, you can use the laptop for extracurricular or non-academic activities as well.

What are some good reasons my parents should buy me a laptop for high school?

Tell them you need it for all the homework you will have and projects. You should also let them know why it is important. Tell them that you have a primary focus on your academics and a computer would be best for you. Also there is a number of factors you must consider when purchasing a laptop. You must have a computer that has a short boot time, so as to reduce the amount of information that is not quickly typed into a file. Therefore if you use it in school no one has to wait for you and stop the lesson. Make sure it runs runs smoothly and efficiently. The first upgrade you may consider is the processing speed. The higher the processing speed, the faster your computer will do all the calculations it needs to perform at optimum capacity. This is what allows your computer to boot quickly, as well as launch applications in record time. Therefore you know you have picked a good choice. Increase the amount of RAM (random access memory). That's always good to. So you have to pay attention to others things than just wanting it. It comes with a lot of responsibility.

Choose: Laptop or Dog?

*I'M A FRESHMAN IN HIGH SCHOOL.*

If I get...
Straight B's all year = Laptop
Straight A's all year = Dog

Not a bad deal, but if I get straight A's, I'm only allowed to have a dog OR laptop. If can't have both. If I get a laptop, then it's a waste of straight A's, ya know?

Idk, what would you choose if you had neither?

P.S.- I'm ready for a dog just incase you're wondering. I've fostered many family friends' dogs for time spans of up to 4 months. I've also volunteered at the local ASPCA shelter over the summer. I am definitely commited. It's just that I'd like a laptop also, although I've got my own computer.

Is a gaming laptop worth buying in high school?

If you are a gamer and want to have the laptop for multiple reasons of course buy one. I’m a senior who is a gamer and I was debating buying a gaming laptop but ultimately purchased a surface pro because I felt it would be better used for notes and I have a desktop I can game on.

Is a laptop good to buy for a school student?

The point of ambiguity is self control.Of course, using a portable device such as a smartphone, tablet or laptop (let me be stark honest) exposes you to a tendency of browsing porn sites or spending excessive time chatting with your (+-+)friend, which is, indeed bad for your studies. But then it's human nature, and you yourself can resist such pleasures, or atleast assign such entertainment to a tightly bound time constraint.(Of course, there's nothing wrong in chatting with your girlfriend/boyfriend or watching porn…provided you are mature enough to control your thoughts.)Here ends the your parents’ point of contention. Now here are plausible reasons for you, for not buying a laptop. Think wisely.Laptop is prone to affect your posture, as you'd be using it in bed most of the time.A mid range Laptop would not allow you to upgrade parts and peripherals required for your curriculum. You could enjoy some good Gaming on an entry level Gaming rig than a costly Gaming laptop. The only advantage of laptop is portability, whose need would arise when you're in college. And here you go, your parents have already promised you of a good laptop after class 12.P.S. You may show this answer openly to your parents. I told you so much as I've just graduated from Standard 12, and yes, I've exactly been through this when I was in Standard 7.Have any contradictions? Feel free to comment below.NOTE: This is answer is based on what should a middle school student choose between laptop and desktop and not “Why a student needs/does not need a computer (a laptop or a desktop)?”

At what age should a child have a laptop?

Every time someone asks a question about getting their pre(teen) a laptop everyone shoots it down and says what are you thinking that is way to young to have a laptop they should be in a common family room on a desktop so you can monitor what they are doing, which I think is ridiculous especially when they say you don’t need one till college. Maybe its not a necessity but it’s a great and convenient thing to have. But What do you think is the ideal age to have a laptop. Or do you think they should not able to get one even if they CAN pay for it?

How do schools that provide students with laptops prevent the students from using the laptops for fun during class?

The issue of students using their laptops for non-educational purposes is a pretty big one at my school. Many people try and play games, go on social media, or browse the internet. As a result, my school has tried a number of strategies. Initially, the principal and administrators were relatively lenient about this issue. Mainly, teachers just went around the room, glancing at peoples' screens. Seats were (and still are) placed strategically to make it easier for the teacher to monitor everybody's laptops. However, we evolved with these methods, so they resorted to other measures. After this, some scare tactics were adopted, which included, "If you are caught looking at an inappropriate website twice in a row, you will be suspended," or, "Unless you want a permanent stain on your record, you'd better not look at social media during school hours." Needless to say, these strategies were ineffective. So, at the end of last year, the tech department installed LanSchool software on everybody's computer. This way, teachers in classrooms can have a view of everyone's laptop at the same time. However, even this new mode of classroom management hasn't deterred people from using their computers for non-educational reasons. Ultimately, I don't think it's really possible to complete that task without extensive firewalls and the such. Luckily, my school hasn't taken those up yet, so I can still go on Quora during class.
