How to get data off of a broken external hard drive? (Well, almost broken)?

I have a SAMSUNG M3 USB 3.0 1TB External Hard Drive. Recently I think it got water damaged in the connection from the hard drive itself.

Up until yesterday, I could still read and write to it, however if you moved it lost connection- much like a pair of faulty headphones.

I am a keen developer, and I just installed 74 new Android SDK packages to it. When it was finished, I unplugged it and turned my computer off.

But now, when I connect it, it still makes the noise on Windows, and it whirs on the inside so I know it's doing something. However I cannot access it, it's not showing up on Windows Explorer on mine or my dad's Windows 8 PC (I have a Windows 7 PC).

I'm not horrendously bothered because I have got a new one for my birthday, but I'd still like one last shot to empty it and put all the files on my new hard drive.

Anyone know any way I can get my photos and stuff off of it?

Cheers.

How can we open a corrupted external hard drive without formatting on Windows 7?

You can't. Once the drive becomes damaged or being corrupted, internal file system won't allows any type of read or write actions. Using recovery programs before formatting is recommended if you've saved something useful on it and don't want it to be fade away permanently. I'd recommend formatting only after recovering your precious files. Else, you might lose the entire stored content. Good luck!!

SimpleTech 1TB External Hard Drive "ProDrive" not showing up anywhere...?

I recently bought a 1TB SimpleTech ProDrive External Hard Drive, which offers USB and Firewire 400 connections. I have tried both connections to my Windows XP PC, have looked in Disk and Device Management and can find no evidence that the PC even realizes its connected. Other USB and FireWire devices connect no problem to my PC. The light on the drive has two different signals - Blinking which according to the User Guide I found online, means the drive is reading/writing, and a steady glow meaning ready but no activity. Oddly, the light is blinking, even if there is no connection to the PC at all. Additionally, I don't know what the drive would be reading or writing considering the PC doesn't recognize it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

None of the RAW drive recovery software could detect the data inside my external hard disk. What else can I do?

You can try Stellar Phoenix Windows Data Recovery – Professional software to recover the data from your RAW hard drive. This software commits and accurately perform RAW Recovery.Cheers!

[URGENT] Will i lose data if i convert my primary hard drive to a logical hard dive?

You should jusr be using the built in windows partition manager right? It should not format any of the data on the drive but just change the way the system sees the drive as a primary or logical system. The data concern I would have is that being a primary drive it may hold a record of the MBR or master boot record (which cannot be touched). If this is changed to a log8cal or secondary drive with the MBR then the next time you boot up your computer it will tell you no drive found and its a ***** to fix from there. First find out where your mbr is . It should be in C drive and go from there. Which ever drive has the MBR Make sure it remains primary (and you can have more than 1 primary drive or partition

How can I format a Internal Hard Disk drive from RAW to NTFS?

Since you do not want to recover the data, it is pretty easy. You can just use Windows built-in tool Windows 10 Disk Management to just format the drive. Second choice would be diskpart.exe. To use the command line to bring a disk online, create a partition, and format it, run the following commands: C:\> DiskpartDISKPART> list diskDISKPART> select disk (id)DISKPART> online disk (if the disk is not online)DISKPART> attributes disk clear readonlyDISKPART> cleanDISKPART> convert mbr (or gpt)DISKPART> create partition primaryDISKPART> select part 1DISKPART> active (if this is the boot partition)DISKPART> format fs=ntfs label=(name) quickDISKPART> assign letter (letter)DISKPART> list volumeIf that still fails, try third party software, such as AOMEI Partition Assistant.
