Regret Getting Extractions For Braces Should I Speak To My Orthodontist First Or Second Opinion

Do you regret getting braces?

No. Not at all.Infact, getting braces done has been one of the best decision I must have taken for myself. My mom first took me to a dentist for braces when I was around 15 year old and I was completely against getting it done because I was about to enter into my junior college in 2 months and nobody wants the braces in college. The dentist told my mom I don't need braces and I was the happiest person on earth.Years later, when I joined dental college and got knowledge about teeth, I realised, hell!!! I Need braces. And getting orthodontic treatment done at the age of 20 is more embarrassing than getting it done at 15, trust me on that. That's my smile before and during the orthodontic treatment.Well, I did get it done but after I finished my college when I was around 24ish. My dad wasn't really in favour of it as he thought it will be an obstacle Now that he was looking forward to getting me married and the treatment being a long one for about 2 years or so.But I would like to give the credit to two people here.First, my friend then and husband now - Harshvardhan. He is the one who supported me and pushed me to get on with the treatment. If not him, I would have never gotten it done and would still be living with those gaps in between my teeth.Second, my orthodontist. He did a wonderful job in giving me this beautiful smile.I was very self-conscious about my smile but getting braces done, changed alot for me. My smile, my confidence to face camera and alot more....

Four teeth extraction for braces?

So recently I got four teeth on the sides of my mouth pulled for braces. I decided to do research on it after I got it done (dumb on my part), and many people said that they regretted doing it.
I researched and researched and many people said that it causes sleep apnea, TMJ, pre mature sagging of the face...so many things. It makes sense because the teeth would be pulled back so far, and there would be nothing to support the lips and skin so it would all sink in. I'm a scared that this is going to happen and I don't want to do it anymore.

I already got the teeth removed but I haven't gone back yet to get the moving back process actually starting.

Would a cosmetic dentist be able to put teeth back in? If you could please do anything to help me with this, it would mean the world to me. I can't do this...I just need a way out of this and quickly. my next appointment is February 5th

Regret Premolars Extractions! Reopen space with implants?

Hi, here's a little background: I got my 4 of my premolar extracted 6 years ago when I was 15 due to crowding. But then I noticed that I have a short smile with only 6 teeth showing and that my nasolabial lines are becoming pretty prominent so I suspected it is due to the extractions.

Right now I am in my 5th month of treatment with Damon braces, hoping to reverse the facial damage. I have been hoping that the orthodontist will use a palatal expander on me to broaden out my smile. However he is pretty much against using an expander on me because he thinks that my teeth may get pushed out of my bones. Also he doesn't think my arch is that restricted and that I just need to have some of my teeth that are tipped in to be straightened out with wires. But I was also hoping to reopen the space and get implants as I believe that would really help to plump out the area from the corner of my nose to my mouth... My orthodontist then suggested that if after 2 months I still insist on reopening space, he could do it with reverse facemask (even though he still doesn't think it's a good idea, saying that my mouth may protrude out too much)

However I have read a lot of people, when going through the reversing extractions, used a palatal expander to expand and create space so I don't know if I should keep talking to my orthodontist to convince him to use it in my case.

Please let me know what you think! Would greatly appreciate any share of opinions/experience!

Thanks!

Does getting molars removed and getting braces hurt?

Well i'm getting a few molars removed because my teeth at the front are all crooked and i have a thin gum tissue that is so thin you can see the roots of my teeth. So i have to get some teeth removed at the back so that the rest of my teeth at the front can move back with the braces.

Is it going to hurt. Cause i can imagine it will with the teeth moving back into the empty gum space.
Thanks for the help. (:

Do I need to get teeth extracted for braces?

Yes.You seem to have incompetent lips and and open bite in normal posture, with retroclined lower front teeth. In simple words, your lips don't close in rest position, you from teeth don't close and lower front teeth are exceptional tilted towards the outside. Plus your lower wisdom tooth are tilted, but i might be wrong but I see a bit of caries in the tooth next to you lower wisdom teeth. You will have an extensive diagnostic check up if you visit a proper orthodontist depending on which either your 1st premolar or second premolar will be removed.Your Premolars are tooth marked 5 upper and 5/6 lower (Ignore the numbering system)The space created will be used to push your front teeth back.I would honestly suggest the extraction technique (camouflage) as the retention is better in such cases. And post treatment facial profile will be much more pleasant.Your 27, not much skeletal problems why go for extensive facial surgery. If they meant 'no extraction' as in doing an arch expansion, then I can't say that from an X-ray without doing a Boltons analysis. As a dentist currently undergoing an ortho treatment, I advice you to visit a proper orthodontist and not some other general practise dentist.

I need teeth pulled before getting braces?

I've had something quite similar done. I had four teeth pulled out as well, and my orthodontist only put the front braces of my top teeth until I got them pulled out. I got two pulled out at once in a week, then the week after, I got two more. To be honest, the 'pulling out part' wasn't THAT bad. I mean yes it hurts for i'd say just a few seconds when they put the needle WHICH IS TO NUMB THE GUM, so that when they actual pull the teeth out, you don't feel pain just pressure. The first 'session' of getting teeth pulled out, it hurt when he put the needle, and then lots of blood, but really it's only like that for the night. Next day I had school, I mean yes, there are spaces, but who cares what anyone thinks? The spaces will fill up, and by that time you'll have the most perfect smile ever. I was a bit conscious, but I went with it, and here I am, 9 months into braces, and I'm glad that I got that part done! And for the part that you think you're teeth aren't really all that crooked? I'm sure they aren't, but for the entire 'smile' to fit together at the end, you probably do need the two teeth pulled out so that you don't have a huge overbite, if you understand what I mean? (To balance out, two top two bottom) So in short, you should do it :)

Does a tooth exposure operation hurt?

Just had this done for a canine tooth that was impacted in my gum. It shouldn't hurt!! It may give you a bit of discomfort after the surgery, but if you stick to painkillers (and take one just before the anesthetic wears off- around 2-4 hours after surgery) it should be fine!
If you have had local anesthetic before and it hurt, make sure you let them know! If you do feel any twinge of pain while they're working on you- don't speak, just put your hand up, and they'll stop immediatley and inject you with some more!! (I had six injections once, as it just wasn't working... but they kept doing it until it worked!)

Also, a good idea- if you're anxious, is to ask for Nitrous Oxide- which is Happy Gas! It's a gas that doesn't so much take pain away (but the local does, so it doesn't really matter), but it totally calms you down. After the second breath off the stuff you'll feel totally relaxed.

The procedure itself wont hurt. You will feel a little pressure (like someone holding onto your tooth) but there'll be no pain when the local kicks in! Pressure of a drill, which I presume you've had before due to fillings, is pretty much the worst you'll feel during the procedure.
Don't worry! You'll be fine :)

I am getting braces in a week. Do you have any advice that you wished you knew before you got braces?

My advice is to seriously reconsider getting them.If you are happy with your teeth, or could learn to be happy with them, rethink this. The first week I put them on, I could not stop crying. Gums were sore, teeth were sore, even tongue was sore. Had many cuts on the inside of my mouth (still do). Couldn’t even eat apple sauce, because when tiny bits of apple rubbed against my teeth, it hurt. Brushing was equivalent to torture. The taste of metal took a long time to go away. Maybe it hasn’t gone away for me, I’ve just gotten accustomed to it.Just about any sort of food will get stuck between the wires and brackets. Reconsider how you will deal with social situations, school, work, outings, places where brushing will not be readily available. Tongue will be sore after all the work trying to remove stuck food.Speech will likely change too. You might develop a lisp. Severity will depend on what other instruments are added. For me, I have a TPA (transpalatal arch), which is a metal wire stretching from one side of the roof of my mouth to the other. Furthermore, I have bite blockers (tiny devices placed behind my top two front teeth, to prevent me from biting down on the brackets). I would say they are the most uncomfortable part of my experience.Bite turbosTranspalatal archMost importantly, reconsider how your confidence might change. I personally thought I would look fine with braces on, however I was not prepared to see my face change to such an extent. My confidence dwindled the very second I saw (and heard) myself. The speech impediment goes away for about a few months, but if you are a young person, consider how having braces will impact more social aspects of your life. (If you are in a relationship, consider what sort of activities you will want to (or have to) do away with while wearing braces. Just check out this transpalatal arch again). If you’ve considered all this, and still want to go ahead, good luck. If not, depending on the severity of your case, maybe you could accept your teeth and get by without all this hassle?

How much did or do braces hurt based on your personal scale of 10?

I have braces right now so I can pretty much tell you that.Placement- 0You won't feel a thing during the placement of braces. It's going to be completely painless procedure. So my answer would be zero. You might feel a little discomfort because of the presence of foreign object in your oral cavity but pain won't be there. After 5–6 hours= 8.Now you'll start feeling pain. Initially, it would be mild, let's say 5. But with time it will increase.Next 24 hours= 10.Next 24 hours are going to be the most painful hours of your whole orthodontic treatment. You won't be able to bite anything. Teeth will be extremely tender. Forget biting, even a slight touch of your tongue will cause pain. You'll be advised to take analgesic for that. You'll have to rely upon liquid diet entirely. You might even regret the decision of undergoing this treatment but trust me, it's totally worth it.After 48 hours= 8.Now you'll feel comparatively better. You can eat semisolid stuff. Teeth are less tender now. You might notice ulceration on oral mucosa because of the braces and wire. And that constant irritation causes more pain and discomfort. You’ll be advised to apply topical anesthetic get over that area. After 72 hours = 4–5.You'll be able to bite and chew with mild pain. After one week = 0–1.There won't be any pain. You'll get used to it. You won't feel any discomfort. After 20 days= 0.Only mirror and toothbrush are going to remind you that you're having braces.First wire tightening= 7–8.Pain is going to last for hardly 1–2 days. And then slowly with time, you’ll get used to it.You are never going to regret this decision, trust me. Go for it. All the best.
