Remembering 2012 The End Of The Earth Scare Mayan Thing - What Happened

Will the world end in 2012? Or will anything bad happen?

Seriously? After last year's Doom-a-thon you can still believe this hoax is real? We had Judgment Day, the Rapture, Supermoon, Comet ELEnin, 11-11-11, Oct 21st (for some damn reason) and a bunch of falling death satellites. Every one of them was complete BS. I was actually cheering for the Rapture. Imagine if all the religious zealots in the world disappeared on the same day. It would be Heaven on Earth. Except then, if this was Heaven, they'd all come back here? Forget about it.

Morons, druggies and con-men thought up the 2012 nonsense, with a smattering of the mentally deranged thrown in for seasoning. I don't know about you, but I tend not to listen to anyone in any of those groups. That crazy man with the sign down by the freeway doesn't know something you don't, except maybe how to heat a can of beans in his pants while he is sleeping so he can have a warm breakfast.

How possible is the end of the world happening in 2012?

Not very.

One of several Mayan calendars is the Long Count calendar, which is reset to day 0 every 1,872,000 days or 7057.5 years. The next reset date, by some calculations, is December 21, 2012. This is not a prediction of the end of the world. Here is what a Mayan elder says on the subject: http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20091011/ap_o...

These predictions are scare tactics, conspiracy theories, and chances to make money from books and movies.

Ever since the Y2K and 6/6/6 (June 6, 2006) End of the World scenarios did not pan out, the scare mongers, conspiracy theorists, book sellers, and television executives have been touting the 2012 End of the World scenario. When 2012 does not happen either, I am sure they will think of something else.

"But of that day or hour, no one knows, neither the angels in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father. Be watchful! Be alert! You do not know when the time will come." (Mark 13:32-33)

Jesus told us in no uncertain terms that we were not to know when the end of the world would come but that we were always to be ready.

The early Christian Church thought that Jesus was going to return at any moment. Only after a couple of centuries did the Church realize that it may be 2,000 or 4,000 or 8,000 years before Jesus returns.

The Catholic Church wisely follows Jesus' advice and teaches that each of us should live as if we will meet our maker in the next ten minutes and that we need to work to make the world a better place for our 100 X great-grandchildren.

Do not worry about the end of the world. Trust God to make sure everything happens to plan. Just be ready to meet God at any time.

Do You Believe in Mayan Calendar?

Ancient civilizations had very advanced ways of telling time, many of which we don't understand completely, and those who did have been dead for centuries. The main focus is now on the Mayan long-count calendar, which is predicted to end on December 12, 2012. The calendar, which has been running for centuries, will draw it final day then, and many speculate at what that could mean for the state of the world. Did the Mayans know the exact date of Armageddon, will spiritual enlightenment occur, will is be the end of the world as we know it, or will their only be four days left to finish your Christmas shopping. the Mayan calendar is believed to have set its year zero (the beginning) about 5,125 years ago, which marked the beginning of a new age on earth, after the ending of a previous age.

The Mayan calendar is circular in nature. The date has been calculated by scientists and philosophers to either being December 21 or 23, with most believing it will be on the 21, the date of the winter solstice. Mayan culture is believed to have had a deep understanding of astrology and astronomy, and they used this to devise their perceptions of time. Let's examine some of the Mayan calendar prophecies that have been put forth.

What will happen if all the planets are in a parallel line?

"Parallel" to what? Do you mean a "straight line"? The planets have never been in a straight line even once in the 4 billion year history of the solar system. So it certainly won't happen in 2012.

"2012" is a hoax designed to scare children and adults who know nothing about science. There is no science behind it, and no scientists believe in it.

The world has existed for over four billion years. Is it reasonable to expect that it will come to an end in less than three years? And all because of a Mayan calendar? Use some common sense.

The most interesting astronomical events in 2012 will be an annular eclipse of the Sun on 2012 May 20, a total eclipse of the Sun on 2012 Nov 13, and a transit of the planet Venus across the face of the Sun on 2012 Jun 06.

Scientists don't expect anything out of the ordinary to happen in the year 2012, or specifically on the date December 21, except for the solstice, which happens every year.

None of the "predicted" happenings for 2012 hold up under close scrutiny. "Planet X" and "Nibiru" simply don't exist. The Mayan calendar ends a cycle, but there were no predictions of the end of the world. The Sun doesn't line up with the galactic centre; it's 6 degrees off. No asteroids or comets are actually predicted to hit Earth.

All of this stuff was put together by crackpots in order to promote their books and TV shows, and shamelessly promoted by the History Channel. Don't take any of it seriously!

The best way is to _inform yourself_ about 2012 by reading factual sites about it, rather than sites that are trying to sell you something. Here are a few:
