Repainting The Inside Of A Microwave Oven

How can you stop your microwave from going rusty inside?

I bought my daughter and her boyfriend a microwave couple of years ago. They are not the most careful pair and they have very little respect for anything, even if it costs a fourtune, even if they buy it themselves!! The inside has gone extremely rusty, with great dollops of peeling hanging from the roof-yuk!! I can't imagine how they can bear to eat anything cooked in there! I figure that it's the condensation that has caused this and I believe you should mop up any moisture b4 closing the door after use, but they obviously haven't done that.
I'm not finacially well off and although I would like to get them a new microwave I can't see that I can afford one with a stainless steel interior, is there a way to prevent this spoiling to another microwave?
Please don't advice me not to get them another ect ect... I've battled for years & years with my daughter over her way of thinking ect ect, now that she doesn't live with me I choose to have peace with myself and her by saying nothing.

Can a microwave be painted? And if so, with what kind of paint would I have to use to make it safe?

I've been planning on putting some personality into my father's plain beige and white kitchen. He has wall to wall white appliances and assorted cupboards that could really use some color. I was thinking about hand-painting and sealing the furniture, but I'm not sure what I can do with the appliances. Contact paper and stickers are not on my list of things to use. I'd like to give the appliances new faces and paint all visible sides. Some appliances get quite warm, especially when the kitchen is warmed in general from cooking. What kind of paint could I use to fully paint all visible outside parts of appliances (refridgerator, microwave, toaster, possibly the washer's front and top, thinking about the metal ceiling lamp as well) and still have them safe to use? I need a paint that will resist getting marked up or dulling, something that can withstand some heat and a good surface-cleaner wipe down. Any ideas? I would really appreciate any advice or experiences you have about this! - Sam

Microwave oven inside ceiling peeling. Safe to use?

I have an older model Sharp microwave which cooks beautifully but has a lot of peeling on the inside ceiling. All my microwave food is covered so I'm not worried about a chip peeling off and landing in the food but am concerned about whether or not there are safety issues of which I should be aware.

How do I find out if there is a dead mouse inside my microwave oven?

I'm suspicious that there is a dead mouse inside my microwave oven. We've had a problem with rodents recently but I'm pretty sure we've got rid of them. But now, every time I use my microwave oven, I can smell this horrible dead mouse smell. I've looked behind the microwave, underneath it and I couldn't see anything. There is no obvious sign of entrance, nor even a hole big enough. Should I open the microwave oven and look inside? If not a mouse, why does it reek every time the oven is used? And yes, I clean the oven very frequently.

What's the purpose of the lead shield inside a microwave oven?

There is NO lead in a microwave.
Edward is WRONG. The holes in the grating are 1/10 of a wavelength NOT 1/4 wavelength. If it were a quarter wavelength it would act as a radiator and that would be really bad news.
The mesh is aluminum, nothing more than that.

What to do about rusted paint in microwaves,?

i have the same issue-so i googled....and found this: also found sites that say you can use appliance paint....

Rusty Microwave Oven ?
Posted on 13/11/2010 by microwaveexpert

In the short term the microwaves will not be able to escape from the oven so there is no immediate reason to panic. The only issue will be the unsightly look of the rusty area. In the very long term, when the metal rusts through and creates a hole then there may be an issue of microwave leakage, however the microwaves are only likely to be able to leak into the workings of the oven not into your kitchen. To prevent this, if your painted oven cavity is showing signs of rust, why not clean it up and touch it up with paint to slow down the deterioration. On our website at http://www.kitchenwareonline.com/acatalo... microwave oven touch up paint kit we sell paint touch up kits which contain everything you need to tidy up rusty paintwork in your microwave. Available with either white or cream paint and also black paint for door frames is available separately.

Can you use spray paint on the inside of a convection oven.?

Not a good idea. All paints have outgassing of toxic fumes for awhile. You don't want to contaminate food. The factory finish is baked on and has no outgassing by the time you get it.

How do I restore the interior paint of a rusty microwave?

They make specific appliance paint for microwaves. You’ll want to follow the instructions very carefully and make sure there is no oil or grease on the surface before you begin. There are both spray and paint on versions. I recommend you wear a face mask to avoid inhalation of fumed and paint off spray no matter which version you choose.Good luck!

Is a microwave oven with peeling interior surfaces safe?

No idea about the chemicals making up the microwave, but it's probably safe. Give it a good scrubbing first. Don't repaint it, I don't think that's a good idea. Maybe spray the inside with diluted bleach and then rinse it off after a minute or two to make sure nothing is growing that could contaminate your food. Don't want to leave the bleach in there afterwards either, no telling what microwaves would do to it and you don't want it touching food. (honestly I'm not even sure what happens to bleach when it dries or gets microwaved). What would be unsafe is if the metal screen on the door to the microwave oven was broken or if metal in the microwave was out of place. A microwave is a mini hybrid Faraday cage of sorts and the metal case and screen window keep the generated microwaves from escaping. Also, loose metal inside the oven is a fire hazard. But you've probably seen why before firsthand, forks slip in occasionally. Other than that, worn surfaces should be fine if you clean it up.
