Foreigner in 1982, at the Montreal Forum.Foreigner was supporting the album 4, riding high on the FM charts with such hits as Juke Box Hero, Urgent and Waiting for a Girl like you. The concert was sold out, you could barely get tickets from scalpers. I remember trying to get through the entrance and people would literally stop me to buy my ticket. Sorry, buddy!Inside, the place was packed and there was an eagerness and anticipation in the crowd. We had missed the opening act, which was a young and promising canadian artist by the name of… Bryan Adams! We were just waiting, and waiting, for the major act to hit the stage. The band finally came onstage with a roar of approval from the crowd. Unfortunately, after only a couple of songs, I soon realized that Foreigner was better in the studio than on stage. The singer Lou Gramm had trouble singing high notes, his voice wasn’t as good as it was on record. The lead guitar Mick Jones was quite capable of making good solos but the rest of the band wasn’t as impressive.What might explain the deception is the fact that founding member Ian McDonald, who played keyboards and wind instruments, had left the band before this album. He was an experienced musician (having played with King Crimson) and his playing added something to the overall sound of the band. Too bad but that’s life. What’s you biggest deception in live rock?

Bands like Cannibal Corpse & Vomitory write a long of songs about remorselessness & being the bad guy, but I somehow doubt that's what you're looking for. There is a whole genre dedicated to it though -- i.e. telling the story through the eyes of the perpetrator, rather than the victim. It's called death metal. But it's not really about relationship trouble. More about psychopathy & extreme violence.
