Room Mates Parents Living For 3 Months

Do 18 year old's become tenants at will after living at parents for 3 consecutive months?

No.Your state or city or county might have specific rules about tenants and what happens when they become 18. Normally a person in apartment is not considered a tenant unless their name is written on the lease and a sign the lease. That would make you also responsible for the rent.Even if you are 18, and you're not on the lease, your parents can kick you out of the apartment. If you were living there before you're 18, and you just became 18, your parents should have put you on the lease as an occupant, then you would still be an occupant until the landlord change due to a tenant. An occupant is not responsible for any of the financial responsibilities what is allowed in the apartment.

How do you move out of your parents home to rent with roommates?

Okay so when my 21 yr old daughter told her dad and I that she wanted to move out and learn to be a responsible adult we both just flipped. 1st of all she is a college student and Only working part time. How in the world will she be able to afford rent and other bills like utilities and cell phone. There was noway. Then.she proceeds to tell us that she would be moving in with her boyfriend.(who by the way is a very resposible young man for 21.) I knew her dad would immediately say HELL NO!!!. She said she wanted to start taking care of herself and her schooling was top priority and she wouldnt quite no matter what. So instead of battling her we gave her a list of things that she had to do before be even moved a single item. The list is as follows.1st and foremost get on some sort of BIRTH CONTROL. She still has a long way to go before she finishes the nursing program and we dont want any ooops I am pregnant moments. She needs to get her RN degree .2nd show us 3 months of the full rent. Not just her share. We want to make sure that if something happened to her or her boy friend that they would be okay on the rent. Breaking a lease or getting evicted because you got hurt and cant work to earn money to pay the rent would kill their credit and ability to buy a home in the future. So We wanted to see her bank statements for the savings acct.3rd She has to make her schooling #1 and if we find out she quit or dropped out she would be right back home WITHOUT the boyfriend. She had complied with all that we asked and has been doing great. They have been out on there own since January and no problems. So you ask how you do it. I will tell you just prove to your parents that you can handle it and your resposible. The one other thing I will mention just make sure who ever you choose as a roommate is just as responsible because you dont want to bet left paying everything because they fell short on cash. Good luck

I pay my parents $400 a month in rent, is that too much?

I'm 19 years old and I have been working full-time for the past two years as an aide in a hospital. I make about $1000 a month (sometimes more with overtime) and my parents take $400 of that for rent. I work night shift hours, from 11pm to 7:30 in the morning.

It never occurred to me that it might be a lot until one if my coworkers said that that seemed like a lot, and now I feel like it kind of is. It's more than a third of my monthly salary, and it's slightly over the "rule of 36".

My family isn't needy either, this past summer we've had two additions built onto the house, and my mom was talking about hiring a maid. So that makes me kind of wonder exactly where my money is going.

Like I said, I work night shift, so I have a different sleeping schedule than the rest of the family. It's hard for me to not be awake at night even on my days off since that's what I'm used to. My mom complains and says that I sleep in too much and that I "don't spend enough time with the family" but I feel like if I'm paying $400 in rent and I'm almost 20 years old I should kinda be allowed to stay up however late I want. I don't go out or see my friends nearly as often as other 19-year-olds, in fact, I barely see other people my own age since most of my coworkers have children my age or grandchildren.

I don't know, what do you think?

My roommate's parents crash at our apartment constantly. How do I tell them to STOP?

My roommate's parents, and sometimes her siblings, stay at our apartment at least once a month for three days at a time or more. Lately, they've been coming every couple of weeks to hang out with her, sometimes unexpectedly. We have a two-bedroom, one bathroom apartment, and they stay in the living room. We're in our late 20s, so it's no longer comfortable for me to have guests crash whenever they please.

I've told her the following: I need advance notice, weekdays aren't ideal for me, and the frequency of visits is too much. When I said that I'd like her parents to stay in a hotel this time when they requested a last-minute stay on weeknights, it didn't go over well and they showed up anyway. (They are well-off and can afford a hotel.)

She's a good friend, and I don't want her family to feel like they aren't welcome for an occasional visit. How do I ask her to have them visit less often -- without being rude? What kind of rules should I set? What's reasonable?

I was living in an apartment with three friends that died in a car accident. The landlord refused to let me out of the lease?

I tried to negotiate with him, but he wouldn't do anything to help. He got a judgement against me that I still can't afford and evicted me. My parents told me to quit my job and focus on school. They now pay my rent directly for a studio apartment that a friend of theirs owns, so I have no income at all. That was 3 years ago. Now the former landlord has passed away and the lawyer is demanding I pay immediately to settle the estate. My parents refuse to pay him because he was such a jerk in the situation. I've also been accepted to a grad program that will be an additional 3 years beginning this august before I start working. Will the estate continue to try to collect more than 3 years from now or will they likely drop it because it is just over $4k and probably not worth continuing to pursue for several more years?
