Sab Audition For Summer Intensive

SAB summer intensive audition?

SAB will screen you for body, facility and musicality. While a Balanchine body is more important for their full time school, they are more lenient in the summer program. You still need a ballet body with all the requirements that entails. But it doesn't need to be a "Balanchine body." Truth is, they will take a dancer with less technique at age 13 if they have the potential. Meaning being born with the body, facility and musicality required.
The audition is a modified ballet class. That is petty much true for all SI programs.

Perhaps look to CPYB. It is a great program and many dancers trained there in the full time program have gone on to professional careers. There is no audition but you get in by photos. They are able to do this because they have over 20 levels not the 5 or 6 like most programs. There is a placement class once you get there. This program is often referred to as "Ballet Boot Camp. You will definitely come out a better dancer than when you went in. They deconstruct your technique and build you back with proper form. They may even take you off pointe but when it is time to go back, you will be much stronger and will be able to do much more. If this is a first SI program it is a great choice.
Not seeing your technique or body, it is hard to know what SI program is right for you. It is always a good learning experience to audition. Bottom line is you are either what they are looking for or you are not. As there is not much you can do about that, you try to enjoy and learn from the experience.

SAB Summer Intensive Auditions?

You are going to hate my answer, but it is truthful.
Because of being so underweight, it is not likely that SAB would take you even without having an eating disorder. Your body that height and weight just can't have enough muscle.
5' 6" and 80 pounds is not a Balanchine body.

SAB is one of the most elite summer intensives programs. ABT is one of the easiest to get into for Alabama and Texas. If you did not get chosen for ABT NYC or at least ABT CA or even ABT Detroit, it is not likely that you would get into SAB.

* EDIT: Your "choice" ranking for the SI location is just a request. From your other question you said you picked Texas second after the new NC location which you didn't get into. NC, which is their newest program, would be one of the more elite locations like NYC.
NC is now the new home of the JKO boarding school, which is the feeder school for ABT.

***URGENT EDIT: Your BMI is 12.9. A BMI of 15 is considered dangerously low!
People with a low BMI are essentially starving to death by not taking in enough calories to maintain a healthy body weight. Some of the health problems associated with this condition include increased risk of osteoporosis, anemia from insufficient iron, a weakened immune system and even organ failure and death. Short-term problems associated with low BMI can include impaired judgment, lethargy and mood swings. Please see a Doctor ASAP!!!

SAB Summer Intensive Audition?

Your audition will be en pointe. It will be a modified ballet class like all the other summer intensives you have done in the past. There will be some Balanchine style fast turns thrown into the mix. They will look for body, facility and musicality. While not as selective as the full time school for your age ( they would be looking for potential dancers for the NYCB at your age at the full time school) they will still be looking for dancers at or very near a professional company ready level.
If this is your first SI audition and you are 16, then don't count on getting in but relax and just enjoy the experience. Dancers who make this intensive have trained 20-30 hours a week year round for years at other prestigious ballet academies like SFB, PNB, The Harid Conservatory, CPYB etc. Your competition for spots are looking to get scholarships to SAB so they can then go to SAB full time and join NYCB. This will happens in less than a year for them if they are successful.

What is the SAB summer intensive audition like?

The audition is not unlike every other SI program. A modified ballet class.
They look for body, facility and musicality along with the level of training expected for a dancer your age.. Ideally they want a Balanchine body but just having a good ballet body is fine for the SI program. A Balanchine body is more important for the full time program. Feet and turnout are most important along with line (short torso and long limbs.) At age 15 your entire audition would be en pointe. At 13 and 14 only the last part will be en pointe. Under 13 no pointe required.

Could I get into the sab summer intensive?

I have my Audition for sab in a week and I was wondering what the chances are for me getting in.

I am 13 and have been told I have the body by every teacher I have had. I am "4 10" and 67 pounds. I used to be a gymnast so I am also very muscular. Based on this do I have the right body for sab?

I also know sab is balanchine and is known for fast combinations which I have a hard time with because I am trained in Russian technique. Will this lessen my chances by a lot? Could I still get in if I had the body?

What are the auditions like? Will they give fast combinations?

Any help will be appreciated
-thanks!

Nervous for School of American Ballet Summer Intensive Audition. help!?

Hey you just answered my Q. I actually took a class at SAB last night and most of the girls seemed like you. I too have been dancing for 12 years with 5 years of pointe. Don't be nervous!!!! it is just think "it is just a master class" auditions are a great experiance and even if you don't get in you will know what to expect next year. ALSO the teachers go very very fast when teaching the combinations so this week really pay attention and try practicing getting the combination as fast as possible. I think you have a great chance of getting in. good luck!!

How many people audition for SAB summer intensive? and how many people are accepted?

SAB conducts one of the biggest audition tours around the country, so they get (I agree with RylieMoo) a ton of people auditioning. They accept so few into their program that it is not unusual for no one from an audition site to get admitted. I'd say one's chances for acceptance are less than 5%, which is VERY FEW indeed and NOT "more than very few" and certainly nothing near 50% (which would be half).

Auditioning for ABT Summer Intensive?

There is no way for anyone to tell you that you could get in to either Ailey, ABT or SAB. Even if they've seen you dance, people can only guess and say, "Well they typically take..." For ABT try only listing NY on your registration form...that way maybe they know how you feel about it. What I would suggest also is ask the people at the check-in what you should do. I have found them all to be exceedingly nice and helpful at every audition my daughter has ever been to...Check what the age minimums are for any school you want to try for and then just go in and dance. The best way to stand out is to show them what you've got. There are no guarantees but if you love dancing let them see that...best wishes to you.

Sab audition results?

I just finished my sab audition for their summer intensive in the 16-18 y/o age group, and since I pre-registered, my results are due to come in around a week. I actually feel pretty good about how I did (considering some random circumstances that I thought were going to hold me back a ton), but I did make some mistakes in some of the combinations. After my mistakes, I would recover and try to smile through it, and I made up for it by correcting myself when I did the left side. do the teachers keep that in mind when they think of your results? How detrimental are mistakes to your audition results, and how do they affect them?

Also, are audition classes for older age groups typically entirely on pointe? I ve been to several other ones (like sfb, mcb, etc.) and they were more half and half. This was the first where it was only pointe.

Tips for SAB audition?

If it is a dark blue it is ok. However a black Cami (or tank) is always best. I'm sure I don't have to tell you hair in a neat tight bun and no extra dance cloths or jewelry.
Being that you got accepted to PNB in Level 6 you should have a fair shot at SAB. SAB is perhaps a tad more selective so it's a crap shoot as to who gets in based on the pool of dancers applying.
There is nothing really all that different about this audition if you were to compare it to PNB. Remember Peter Bole (the AD of PNB) was trained at SAB since he was a child then danced with NYCB. As with any audition dance as cleanly as possible. Don't chat during the audition and remember to watch your posture even when it isn't your turn to dance once you are in the studio. Watch your spacing at the barre, center and across the floor as nothing looks worse than a dancer who cannot space themselves properly and who gets in other dancer's way. At the end of the audition don't forget to thank the ballet master/mistress and the accompanist. A quick smile and thank you will do but don't chat them up. That way you will come off more professional. Bottom line is you are either what they are looking for or you are not. As there is nothing you can do about that, try to relax and enjoy the audition so your Joy of Dance shines through.
Best of luck.
