School Administrator Interaction With A Teacher Legal

Are teachers allowed to keep students after school? If so, how long?

I’m not sure on the legality or official rules on this, but I do know that it shouldn’t be deemed ok.Many students depend on getting out of school on time in order to get rides home, including getting picked up and taking the school or city bus home. Making kids stay after school even by ten minutes can mess up their entire ride schedule for the evening, making them get home much later than just ten minutes. Many of my former teachers did this in middle school during the day or before lunch. Our passing periods were only five minutes long, so even “just one minute” can leave you being late for your next class. As for lunch, teachers were not going about to cut into my 24 minute lunch period— the only relaxation time for the day

Is it legal for a teacher to talk about a student's performance with other students?

This answer is for the US only.I am not a lawyer or an expert on student rights, but I was a teacher who has had to deal with student privacy issues. This is only my opinion: Use the link at the end of the answer to make your decisions. Here is my answer to your question:Absolutely not. It is both illegal and unethical. The most important thing for you to know is an acronym: FERPA. It stands for Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act.If you have proof, not conjecture or deduction, but proof by testimony from multiple sources that a teacher has discussed your scores or performance with other students (or with anybody other than your parents or yourself), speak to your teacher and tell him/her not to do so any more. Remind them that FERPA requires that individually-identifiable information may not be disclosed without the permission of the student, or (in the case of a minor) of the student’s parents/guardians. Use the phrases FERPA and personally-identifiable information. This will let the teacher know you know what you are talking aboutThen, ask your parents if they have given your teachers written and dated permission to talk about your academic record with other students. (I am assuming that you are under 18 and therefore under your parents’ guardianship) If they say no, tell them what you have said, and show or tell them your proof. Then ask them to call the school and let the administration know that a FERPA violation has occurred. Any complaint you make must be done within 180 days of the occurrence of the violation. This will not make up for the damage already done. The other students cannot unhear what they have heard. but it can:put the teacher and school on notice that their conduct is being observed by people who know the law.Begin or add to a paper record that the administration can use to reprimand or fire a teacher.Provide a reason for you to request that you be transferred to another teacher—if that is possible. Here is a link to the Department of Education website about FERPA: Family Educational Rights and Privacy Act (FERPA)I suggest you read the parts of it about student rights and the procedures about filing a complaint.

My teacher. is. a paedophile?

I'm 15 years old and this teacher at my school is a total pervert. He's a really respected teacher and he's the head of our grade. Anyway he flirts with all the girls in our grade. He tells " how pretty we are, how many of us are legal yet ?," stuff like that. He checks us out and looks at our chest ( most people don't have to wonder why they see us wearing sweat shirts in the spring and summer time ) and he doesn't try to hide it. He looks like he's undressing us with us eyes. He asked for our personal cell phone numbers " Just in case he needed to call us for something "school related" At my school we have this thing called an enrichment program( like a study hall ) anyway he's my enrichment teacher and me and my friend had to use his computer to work on a project and he said the only way we could use it was if we " sat on his lap" before we could answer, he kinda yanked us toward him and made us sit in his lap. He tells some of the girls to " break up with their boyfriends." Asked my friend who was graduating if she would consider having a sexual relationship with him after she left for college. ( He's married and as two kids ). She said "no" I told her she should tell someone, but she didn't want to, she said she didn't see the point since she was leaving. In enrichment class my friend and I were looking at pictures from our cheerleading practice and we were in sport bras and cheerleading shorts and he was walking by and asked to see the pictures and he made the comment " about how good and flexible we look and how if we wore those " outfits" we would never have to worry about failing again." The other girls in my grade and I are starting to worry that maybe he's more then just a pervert maybe he's a pedophile. Today I found out that he asked out another one of my friends. He made her stay after class and told her how she was his " favorite young girl" and how she's very "mature for a 16 year old" " they could have fun together" " how her parents wouldn't mind since he's only 28 and she's 16 " ( yeah right ! ) Of course my friend said no and that she already had a boyfriend. We haven't told the princepal yet, becuase were not sure he's going to believe us since the teacher is another high authority figure.
I want to ditch today (4am here so technically Thursday) because of this. Yesterday he said to me he wanted to "talk" after class. NO. I'm scared, because, I was molested when I was younger. I just...I can't deal with this.
