Severe Sinus Pressure Help

How do I relieve sinus pressure?

Very astute! Course you've been living with this for a while. I worked for about 8½ years for an ENT guy and it's pretty common to see all these symptoms together. If you want to feel snooty, you can call the a constellation of symptoms.

The pain you're feelig is indeed in your sinuses. The ones no one ever thinks of, the ethmoids. They are narrow sinuses that go along the sides of your nose up to the edges of your eyes. They're just about 1½" long. Enough anatomy? Okay:

I'm going to tell you how to do a procedure called a valsalva manuver. It's fairly simple and should improve all your symptoms at once.

Go to the drug or grocery store and buy a bottle of nasal spray that has as its main ingredient Oxymetazoline 0.05%. The most popular brand is Afrin, but most stores have their own brand that costs less.
Spray both sides of your nose and wait about 5 minutes, then blow your nose like you would to clean it.
Hold your nose closed with your fingers and force air against your fingers. This should cause your ears to "pop". If you can't get them to pop right away wait about 5 minutes and try again. You can pop your ears as many times as you want during the day, but you can only use the spray 2 times a day.

What you're doing is forcing an air bubble and the tiniest bit of decongestant into your eustachian tubes that have become swollen and closed due to the drainage down your throat.

The nose spray should clear up the stuffiness in your nose, open those ethmoid sinuses and help with the plugged up ears. It's a miracle!!

You may take mucinex for the drainage. It doesn't stop it, it thins it so it's not so likely to get stuck in your sinuses or clog your nose and throat. The main ingredient in mucinex is guyafsen which occurs naturally in pineapple, so it's completely safe. I don't ever recommend a decongestant unless your doctor prescribes it as they thicken the mucus and may really block sinuses and ears.

I hope this helps, you should feel significantly better pretty quick. Take good care, okay?

Can sinus pressure cause fatigue?

Chronic Sinusitis
Chronic sinusitis is a sinus problem that persists or recurs and is often caused by long-standing allergies, anatomical obstructions such as polyps, or exposure to irritants such as smoke.

The Effects of Chronic Sinusitis
Constant exposure to substances such as pollen, smoke, and chemical fumes can cause persistent inflammation of the mucosal lining of the nasal and sinus cavities. Cilia can become permanently damaged making it more difficult for mucus to drain from the sinuses. The symptoms of chronic sinusitis are generally mild; headache and sinus pain are less severe and because there is usually no upper respiratory infection, fever and fatigue are uncommon. However, nasal congestion with some pressure and annoying postnasal drip are symptoms of chronic sinusitis.

As you see, fatigue is possible, but not common. Your anxiety and depression could also be possible causes of your fatigue. Especially depression. When one gets pain on top of depression, it takes almost all out of you. Your only avenue is to get rest and work out the problems. Your sinus problems just aggravate the other problems. You know what they say; "It never rains but it pours"

God Bless You :)

What's the best OTC medication for severe sinus pressure?

For sinus pressure there's really only 2 OTC ingredients- pseudophenedrine and phenylephrine. You can try phenylephrine, it's also in the Sudafed brand, but it will be the one on the shelf, not behind the counter.

However, pseudophedrine works best, all you have to do is sign for it and show a license, no big deal. Takes a couple extra minutes. An Advil Cold and Sinus (or the generic equivalent) would be good, it's behind the counter and it has Ibuprofen and Pseudophedrine, which will really help the pressure and inflammation.

I have a severe sinus infection. How do I study for 6 hours in this condition?

Well I had this issue and here's how I got it solved. It's so simple. I've been doing steam inhalation but that made it worse, because I have a slight block in my nose. But massaging the face and neck with warm water gives a great ease. Also whenever I wash may face or bathe I use this simple method. I slice a piece of onion (red onion is better) and chop it from my hand and immediately I inhale on it. The fumes goes well in all places in the nose. Then do a blowing out and all done, you can snore while sleeping (after a good study of course!)! Also occasionally I get a fine fiber (I get a coconut fiber) and do a little tickling and sneeze and blow out. I do it 3 times per nose trill. I also do head / forehead / face / neck massaging. If you have a viral / bacterial infection in the nose just dip a tissue in warm salty water and inhale the tip about 3 times per nose trill. Also I never rinse my mouth with normal or cool water, I use warm water. Using normal or cool water makes matters worse. These simple methods does it for me.Also I'm taking Vitamin C and B Complexes, and that too has helped a lot in controlling it. Also I keep drinking lot of water, and that helps a lot as mentioned in other answers here. If you are having problems with large water intake, read the answer Arjun Fnsk's answer to I can't drink more than 2 glasses of water a day. Is this normal? for assistance. There are wonderful answers here and make use of them all.Good Luck!

Severe sinus infection while pregnant?

Try netti pot, making a tent over humidifier, saline solution, drink lots of water.

Sinus pressure clogged ears no discharge.?

Take nasal congestion medication and take sudafed and ibuprofen too. And then when you go to bed, take 2 benadryl. I know it's a lot of medication but you need help, right? You can always cut something out later, but you want to attack this full-force.

It sounds like you have swelling and inflammation, although we don't know what's causing it. Those medications will treat the symptoms; I have similar issues, but without the prior infection.

It's always possible you are allergic to some food you are eating, or a medication. Trouble with digestion or diarrhea and excessive tiredness are also symptoms of that. Try getting an allergy panel to assess that possibility.

Help with SEVERE nasal congestion?

I have turbinate hypertrophy and a deviated septum along with chronic sinusitis. I am waiting on the results of my CT Scan right now before I can go back to the Ear, Nose & Throat Doctor on Tuesday, when I hope he will suggest a procedure for me. However, last night my congestion spiked, and has gotten worse than it has ever been in awhile. I haven't been able to sleep over an hour all night, and I have really strong and painful sinus pressure, and my nasal passages are basically swollen shut today.

Do you know any home remedies or OTC drugs to somehow temporarily aid with swelling in the nasal passages? (For the time being)

I am absolutely miserable and feel like there's really nothing I can do right now until my doctor's appointment, and he can't get me in any sooner.

(and PLEASE do NOT suggest Afrin nasal spray. I use it and it has gotten me into this situation in the first place.)
