Shortness Of Breath Severe

What is the cause of this shortness of breath and burping?

Hi PaulaYou look young - so many of the causes of shortness of breath should not apply to you. However you should still see a doctor. The most common cause of SOB (shortness of breath) in someone of your age would be asthma, anxiety or possibly anaemia. If your chest is tight or you are wheezy it could be asthma.Anxiety can cause hyperventilation - which leads to more deep breathing and a feeling of not getting enough air. Possibly if you are burping a lot you are swallowing air when you are doing your deep breathing. The way to know if it is this is to see a doctor or nurse who can check you with a fingertip pulse oximeter which will show your O2 saturation at 100% when you are SOB ( normal O2 sat is 95 to 99% ) - if it does you are hyperventilating - or very anaemic. They can listen to your chest and see if there is wheeze also - which could be asthma, however this won’t be present if your chest is REALLY tight - but your O2 saturation will also be low in this case ( below 95% probably if your chest is really tight).A simple blood test would show if you are anaemic. Anaemia causes SOB by reducing the oxygen carrying capacity of the blood, so you can have an O2 sat of 100% and as you have too few red blood cells you are still SOB.

Acid Reflux/Gerd Shortness of breath?

Hey guys, quick question here, for about a month I've been generally short ness of breath, I feel as if I need to get a deep breath every so often, I have to yawn sometimes. Also when I wake up in the mornings it feels like my lungs burn when I take a deep breath, not to severe but it feels like when you chew a peice of "cold gum" if you know what I'm trying to say.

So what I'm wondering is, if this is a symptom of Acid Reflux etc. I do burp a lot, and I do get pains in my chest after eating and whatnot, sometimes burning.

Thanks guys, appreciate it.

What can cause shortness of breath in one room of my house?

The first answer covered it all EXCEPT what may be wrong with your body.
It could even be emotional issues connected with that room.

I have the same problem when trying to sleep. But I am temporarily living in a basement, so there may be environmental issues. Only happens in one room? Obviously something's wrong with the room. Or you may be allergic to something in it. Were pets kept there in the past? Are there mold issues? You didn't say which room it is, if it is on a cement slab and is carpeted, you might wish to rip out the old carpeting, as that tends to collect all sorts of irritants.

If not on a slab, are there rodent or roach issues? Cockroach dust causes asthma.
If not on a slab and there is a crawl space, have you crawled under the building to see if there are any issues there, such as termites, rodents, other living creatures which may be there?

I would be able to answer more intelligently if you had described what the circumstances of the room are. But as usual, the asker never provides enough information.
