Should I Be A Psychologist

Should I see a psychologist?

A doctor will do but a psychiatrist is better. A psychologist will offer behavioral therapy meaning you will be taught how to deal with stress and anxiety. A doctor or psychiatrist will offer you anti-anxiety medication such as escitalopram or zoloft. These two meds are non addictive and very safe, and do their work in a mild way, particularly escitalopram. They treat General anxiety, depression and social anxiety as well. They will help you to be calmer and more "yourself" as well as take away despair. Go ask a doctor and see what they think.

Thats a fair call for sure because medications do finish up eventually. The thing is though is that they are useful while you are going through your difficult time. As you said, it's mainly been the past year, is it you or is it external pressures that are causing you to feel this way? Everyone has difficult patches in life at different times and other times when it's not so rough, my advice is merely a suggestion to help you shorten that difficult patch, not only that but if you allow yourself to spend such a length of time in this way you may incorporate some of these negative aspects into your person. There is nothing wrong with helping yourself out when you need it, medication isn't a naughty word when used properly.

Anyway, really think about it. Youv'e broken down your issues really well in your write up so I can tell you think things through. Add this to your list and just ask a doctor about it to see what they think :)

Should I be a vet or psychologist?

Pay of a psychologist depends a lot on how much education you have. You cannot do anything in the psychology field with a bachelor's degree alone. A minimum of a master's is required. Generally, psychologists that have gone on to get a PhD or PsyD tend to make more than those with only a master's. Psychologists with a doctorate tend to make a little more than a veterinarian on average. But, both positions are quite variable.
The hours also vary greatly. Both have opportunities for you to own your own practice and set your own hours. Generally, you would need to fit your hours around the needs of your clients. Veterinary clinics almost always have weekend hours and are almost always open after 5 at least one day a week. Psychologists often have evening hours as well to cater to those that have full-time jobs.
Both are going to be working a fairly long week with at least 40 hours plus the extra time to do charting, followup phone calls, etc.

Veterinary medicine will be much more difficult to get into. Vet schools are notorious for being the most competitive professional or graduate program in the country.
The good news is that you really do not have to decide right away. You can major in psychology in undergrad and still take the pre-vet classes and spend your 4 years of college trying to decide which one is best for you. Take some time and shadow a veterinarian and a psychologist. Learn the ins and outs of both careers. There really is no "better"; what's right for you isn't necessarily right for someone else.

How long should I see a psychologist for?

In my opinion, a person should go for as long as they feel necessary. If they feel they are finished (even if they aren't) they have the right (unless court ordered of course) to stop going to therapy, otherwise they will most likely not be receptive to the help. Kind of like an intervention doesn't work if a person doesn't really want the help. Now in the case of a child, of course that's different and should be left up to the parents and the therapist to decide. On the other side of the token, if a person feels they still need therapy and it's been years, that should also be their choice. Usually we are our own best judge of character.

Should I consult with an psychologist?

Firstly, please stay out of your parents relationship. It's really caring of you to try to solve their equation but here's the fact, it's their issue. You can involve yourself in resoluting their problems but only up to a limit. They have their own secrets, their own way of behaving and commuting to each other. If you get too much involved and decide to pick a side in the rush, it's going to hurt you in the end. Treat them equally with respect and again, STAY THE HELL OUT OF THIS MESS!Marital/ or living in relationships are different from usual/ or casual relationships. Their issues are very complex and deep. They might need their children at times but dragging them literally in every thing is not a healthy choice. It may, infact, have adverse effects on their relationship and as well as the children’s mental health. Thus, damaging the entire family health. If you are feeling sad and emotionally paralysed, and if it's affecting your daily routine such as eating or sleeping etc, patterns, please do not hesitate to consult a psychologist or even a elder. Whatever suits you the best. It's your parents who need a relationship therapy right now. Do not get involved too much into their mess. You don't need to worsen your relationship with any of them. There is a wise saying that, “you can not change your parents, so accept them the way they are, it's more healthier and pragmatic to achieve.”You see parents have that privilege to bring a change into their children’s attitude whereas, we, as kids, could try to provide them a new perception or a point of view but the parents would have the last word to accept it or ignore it. You may enjoy a more casual relationship with your parents but you also know you limitations. It's a hard time for your family, so stay away from picking a side and, infact, stay calm and cool to both of them. They are equally broken at this moment. They are vulnerable and needy right now, have a caring approach and try to be forgiving to them. Yes, it's tough and exhausting but it will help YOU to heal from within yourself. The rest is up to your parents, if you would still continue to involve in to their mess, then it's gonna hurt you every time. Your depression or sad state is self cured only if you allow yourself for change to different perception, which is more caring and forgiving to adversities. Help yourself first, the rest will settle down on it's own.Best Wishes :)

Should psychologist be capitalized?

No, it should not be capitalized; it is a common noun.

If that happened to be one's title, then it would be capitalized, but I believe most of them just go by doctor.
