Should I Go To Lake Como Or Hallstatt

Should I go to Lake Como, Italy, or Salzburg, Austria?

I’ve just been to both. One is a lake and the other is a city. They aren’t really comparable, so it depends on what you are after, and how long you’re after it.Lake Como offers a lot of different activities, and to really explore it you need great weather and a set of wheels. Here’s me on the ferry from Bellagio to Menaggio on the other side of the lake. At this time of year it’s lovely to swim in and the towns and villages surrounding it are charming.Salzburg is a tourist filled city with stylish and expensive shops as well as a fortress, a cathedral and a lot of history.Mozart features big in the town and you certainly won’t starve to death…there’s ice cream and cake shops everywhere. Public transport is in English and German and is super-easy to use. It’s a tough choice. It depends on what rings your bell…the docking ferry boat or the cathedral.

What are the must see places in and around Salzburg, Austria?

There is a beautiful little town called Werfen which is about 60 Km from Salzburg. Unbeknownst to many tourists, Werfen contains the one and only entry gate to the largest Ice Caves in the world. Cool! Right(pun intended). The cave system extends more than 42 km. Although, you would only see the 1st Km of it.If you are coming from Salzburg, spare at least half-a-day for the entire tour. On the other hand, it takes one full day if you are coming from Vienna. Believe me, it’s worth it.The itinerary is something as follows-Step 1- ViennaStep 2- 150 minute train to SalzburgStep 3- 60 minute train to WerfenStep 4- 20 minute bus ride to the Cave’s Ticket CounterStep 5- 20 minute trek/walkStep 6- Trolley RideStep 7- 20 minute trek/walk Step 8- 70 to 80 minutes of awesomeness inside the cave(guided tour)For those who are not planning on a visit, feast your eyes here-View of Werfen from the mountain top.View of Salzec river from the mountain top.View of the cave’s entrance.View from the cave’s entrance.Awesome me.Inside the cave. (Disclaimer- This particular image is from Google as you are not allowed to take photographs inside the cave.)Thanks for reading the answer.

Should I replace Salzburg for Kitzsteinhorn in July?

TLDR at the bottom!Depends on what you prefer - Zell am See has pretty surroundings, Salzburg is amazing if you’re into baroque architecture and the built display of medieval power. In Zell am See, you do have taller mountains closer by, but you have to get there somehow — you’ll pay good money to get up to the Kitzsteinhorn, unless you’re willing to hike up. In general, you’ll be a bit less flexible, as Zell am See is a small town in the countryside. If the weather’s bad, you’re damn out of luck and might well end up going to Salzburg for a day anyways, as you do not want to be up on the Kitzsteinhorn in bad weather.Salzburg is not only not any other city - it is a world heritage site for a reason, as it’s an amazing baroque ensemble piece. Not that everbody likes that - I don’t - but if you’re anywhere into baroque architecture or history, it is the better choice. Some significant mountains are a day trip away, so if the weather’s good, you could just as easily get to see the Alps. If the weather’s bad, however, you have much broader range of options, whether you want to see art, enjoy a concert in a club, or visit the city’s churches or the fortress or take a beer in the beerhall of the Müllner Bräu (all of which you can also do if the weather’s fine, obviously). Take a public bus to one of the lakes of the Salzkammergut if you’re sweating and are up for some alpine scenery.TLDR: Go to Salzburg.
