Should I Lift Heavy Weights When Trying To Lose Weight

Should i lift light or heavy weights?

To gain the most amount of muscle in the least amount of time, you should lift heavy weights in the 4-6 rep range.

Zac Efron is no beast and really has very little muscle. If you want a physique like his, you don't need to do much. You could just use light weight and high reps to get his physique. Also, training with heavy weights is by no means going to give you pro bodybuilder muscles. Pro bodybuilders take a lot of steroids, workout a few hours a day, take massive amounts of supplements and train like animals.

Although training heavy in the 4-6 rep range is optimum for getting stronger and bigger the fastest, you can also train a bit lighter and use weights that allow you to train in the 8-12 rep range. This range is a lot easier on your ligaments, but you will still be in the second best range for building muscle. Aim for 8 reps, and keep trying to get more reps until you get 12 reps, then increase your weight. Same as in the 4-6 rep range. Choose a weight you can get 4 reps with and then work up to 6 reps. Once you can get 6 reps, add more weight so that you're back into the 4 rep range. This is called overload.

Working out isn't as simple as me giving you a couple sentences of advice on Yahoo Answers. You really need great knowledge about workout routines. Check out the links in the sources for workouts that I think would be right for you. The first is a bodybuilding one, the second would give you more the physique of Zac.

Hope that helps.

Which is better - lifting heavy weight or light weight?

I work out 4 times a week, 1 body part every session.
I don't overdo this because I am thin and need to gain weight, so I am trying to improve my regimen.

I do cycling almost every day to build up calves and thighs,

So people have suggested me lifting heavy weights with enough (8) repetitions, even if I might have to take a little help.
Is pulling heavy weight better than doing light? In what way? They say it adds bulk, but I don't get how.

Thanks

What gains muscle mass lifting light weights or heavy weights?

HEAVY WEIGHTS BUILD MUSCLE MASS

There are two types of exercises: Endurance ones and strength ones.

Endurance type exercises involve using light weights and high reps to train your body to be able to do a certain movement for a long period of time. (Think of a long distance runner). Such exercises can include push ups, sit ups, squats, lunges, jogging (which all only use body weight) and exercises with light weights. Reps can range from 10 and up. Endurance exercises will also tone your muscles

Strength exercises are the ones that will make your muscles grow. They involve using heavy and low reps to help your body to do a harder movement normally for a small number of time (Think of a sprinter, who only focuses on getting fast and not being able to keep the speed for a long time). Such exercises are just ones with heavy weights (even weighted push ups, sit ups, squats, etc). Reps are normally 4-8. There is also a method called negative lifting, where you get really heavy weights (105% of the maximum weight you can lift once). This involves lifting the weight with both hands and slowly lowering it with one (note that this method will cause sore muscles).

Should I do light weight high reps or heavy weights low rep to get toner arms?

Short answer:Stick to lifting heavy weights to grow and maintain muscle massLong answer:The key to having the shredded look is all about having a fair amount of muscles while at a low body fat percentage. Many people may suggest for you to lift lighter weights at the higher rep ranges as this causes the burning sensation (of lactic acid build up) which may lead to the conclusion that the exercise is effective for weight loss. The trick is to lift heavier weights instead as this not only build up quite a lot of strengths but also causes the body to take more time to recover, which in turns burns up more calories at rest.Lifting lighter weights is useful for beginners when trying to get use to the exercise movement but should quickly transition to lifting heavier weights, otherwise, the weight loss journey will be much longer and difficult than it should be; if in the chance that you manage to get very lean with lighter weights, you will be a lot weaker than your counterpart that has lifted heavy weights this entire time.Fitness Mathematician at NTP Lifestlye / Instagram

What should I do to lift heavier weights?

I'm lifting 15 lbs dumbbells but I'm find them easier and easier to lift every time I train, so the next pair of heavier dumbbells I have are 25 lbs (I know I'm scrawny) and they are very hard to train with. I once try to workout with them and I couldn't even do one bicep curl and I was afraid to tare a muscle. I want to know if you have any tips on how to lift heavier weights.
