Should I Move To Manchester Or Sheffield

What is it like to live in Sheffield?

Hey I am from Sheffield and have lived their for half of my life. It depends what for and the general lifestyle and age you guys are. It's one of the biggest city in the country so there is a lot to do. Shopping. All your high street stores are in the centre and close around 6pm most days. There is meadowhall on the outskirts so you have a late night huge shopping centre with cinemas and restaurants.Dining wise in Sheffield is really good. My family owns a Japanese and Vietnamese place on London road so I may be biased but for all different cuisines it is a great city to eat out. With London road, eccelesal road and the town centre there are lots of chains and independent restaurants.Bars and clubs there are lots for different kind of people, with the popular west street and division street a good place to go most nights of the week.Housing there are a range for most price limits and being up north it is better value than expensive locations in the south.I currently do live in the south of England (Reading) but this is purely for job opportunities and most headquarters are based along the m4. There are however many places to work in Sheffield and it is a nice place to raise a family with the mixes of school. Along with that it is geographically central and within a two hour drive or train to most cities. As it is close to the Yorkshire cities, Midlands and North west. With a quick train to London also.Sheffield is however very hilly which means steep walks/ drives but also beautiful views. And weather wise it is consistent and not as cold as other northern cities.People are amazingly friendly in Sheffield and that is one of the main draws and there is a real community feel. Hope that helps, fee free to ask anymore

If you had to choose between moving to Liverpool or Sheffield, which would you choose and why?

Sheffield has good bus network and is a small inland city.Quality of life (traffic, clean air, infrastructure, services)Cultural life.Access to green spacesInterurban transport cost and easeCost of livingLocal inhabitants

Would it be better to live in leeds, manchester or nottingham?

I've lived in all three cities. It depends what you're looking for. Leeds, Manchester and Nottingham all have good universities. Some will be better than others at certain subjects. That should be your foremost consideration if you're moving for study. You don't mention what you'll be studying so I can't really comment, but it's pretty easy to work out for yourself where is best for your field.

Aside from learning, unless you get an amazing opportunity, I'd leave Nottingham well alone. All three cities are grim to an extent, but Nottingham is very bad and there are few upsides to the place. The uni is good, but that's about it. It's not an exciting place.

Leeds and Manchester have much more character. The nightlife is great in either one. Same for shopping, culture, people. Just be careful that you don't end up living in a dump. Neither city is perfect, so do your research.

Avoid inner city areas if possible. North and west of Leeds is generally decent. Manchester is a bit more hit and miss. Anywhere to the north and east of Manchester city centre is pretty bad. Most students tend to head south, which is the best direction. Some parts of Trafford and Stockport are nice too.

It's an exciting life in Leeds or Manchester, but do be careful where you end up because...well, you know.

How safe is Sheffield? What are the safe areas in Sheffield?

Sheffield, like many major cities has its issues. Most places are safe enough. The thing that is causing grief in the city and certain areas is the drug spice. This is rife at the moment but, you can avoid seeing this by staying in the better area which are the outskirts towards Derbyshire and on the other side of the city towards Worral. If you keep your wits about you, Sheffield is beautiful and has so much to offer people from all walks of life. Just enjoy the culture and history

Which is better for living, Manchester or Leeds?

I travel to Leeds almost weekly. The essential difference between the two cities is that one has high rise buildings coming up on almost every corner.Leaving aside the UK airport with the second best connections to the world after London, perhaps it’s a case of if you build it, they will come.Alternatively, it might mean there's more options for accomodation, access to transport within and out of the side and sufficiently large population to support cultural and economic activity in a city.

Second city debate: Birmingham vs Manchester?

Birmingham!
-Its bigger
-it is currently the official second city
-it has places like the nec, nia, lg arena and the national sea life centre + more!
-it has the bullring
-the whole city is undergoing a regeneration project
-its going to have a high-speed railway to london

-Birmingham has six twin cities, which Birmingham City Council refers to as "international partner cities". They are:

-Chicago, Illinois, United States
-Frankfurt am Main, Germany
-Johannesburg, South Africa
-Leipzig, Germany
-Lyon, France
-Milan, Italy

-Birmingham, Alabama, USA, is named after the city and shares an industrial kinship

There are loads of more reasons!!

What do you think is better for living as well as studying, Manchester or Sheffield, UK?

It’s hard to fully answer this having only studied at Sheffield. However, I can say that Sheffield was a great place to study my undergrad degree. Everything you need was within walking distance, along routes that were safe and had CCTV. The student union made everyone feel welcome and there was always something to do in there regardless of your interests - the societies on offer are really numerous. The teaching is gernerally pretty good, though it does seem to vary between courses so it would be really helpful to speak to someone who has taken the course you intend to study from both universities so you could compare.
