Should I Take Jazz Or Tap This Year

Which is harder jazz or tap dancing?

Well I, personally, am a HUGE tap dancer! In my opinion, Tap would be a better class to take if your planning on taking this class for awhile because tap is not demanding in any way whereas in Jazz you may feel bad because other people will be more flexible/ better. I really do love Jazz too, but I honestly Tap would be a better fit for someone who does not want to do anything, like serious. Also, Tap classes can guarantee a great time and good exercise, plus you get rewarded for making noise!

New to dance! Should I start with jazz, lyrical, tap, or ballet?

Well if you ever do want to improve your dance skills, you deffinitly need ballet. It is the center of all dance, and it will help tremendously with your technique, which is crucial. Onceyou become good at ballet, everything will comemuch easier to you, even tap.If you can take more than one class i suggest to take jazz as well. Lyrical would be better when you get pretty goodin jazz and ballet. And tap could be fun, but the older you get,the harder that is to pick up. And don't worry about your size. A talland skinny girl is what is ideal for ballet, because they are simpler to lift when doing lifts, which you most likely won't be doing since you are only a beginner. But, they also have very nice lines and once you begin ballet you will understand what I mean with that. I suggest you begin stretching everyday and practice basic ballet skills until your class starts, then PRACTICE EVERYDAY what youlearn in class and contine to stretch! It can become a lot to handle very quickly, but once you get used to it, it won't be as bad! Good Luck! And remeber to have fun doing what your doing! Dance is great!!

Do you like tap or jazz better?

As an ex dance teacher I have to admit I love it all! And as primarily a jazz dancer I especially loved jazz, but tap is also a favorite of mine. It combines a lot of jazz moves and heightens your sense of rhythm. You actually should be seriously studying all three forms if you want to be a well-rounded dancer. Ballet, of course is the basis of all dance forms, but if you want to perform musical theater, etc, you need a strong jazz background and tap will always give you an edge.

If you have to choose, I'd choose tap because if you have a strong ballet background you will always be able to adapt to jazz. I cannot tell you how many times I won an audition because I also had a strong tap background.

Maybe you could work out a barter deal with one of the schools so you can take a third class. Offer to sweep floor, clean or sit at the desk. Where there is a will - there is a way. I know as a studio owner, if I had a student willing to help out in exchange for classes I found something for them to do.

Good luck and keep dancing! :}

Can I start ballet when I am 15 years old and have never danced it before?

Yes, you can definitely start learning ballet at 15 years old! I know that plenty of dance schools offer beginning ballet classes for teens and some even have adult ballet classes. If you decide to join one of those, you’ll be learning dance with people your age and your dance level. You’ll build posture, poise, and athleticism and have an overall great experience. Now, if you want to become the next prima ballerina at age 15 but have never danced before, that’s another story. Dancers that start ballet at a younger age (let’s say 8 years and younger) will undoubtably have a leg up on you in the pre-professional ballet world. They will have many years of daily technique, style classes, and summer intensives under their belts. They will know the ropes of a ballet world that will be foreign to you. However, this goal is still entirely possible. There are exceptions, such as Misty Copeland who didn’t have formal training in ballet until the primed age of 13. Despite her late start, she has risen to national acclaim and popularity as the first African American principal dancer for American Ballet Theater. When she started ballet, she worked tirelessly and soon managed to be on pointe in three months. This is a great feat that usually takes other dancers several years to achieve! In one year, she had even won a national competition. So yes, it is entirely possible to become the next big ballerina at age 15, but you will have to work hard and sacrifice other commitments.

Should I start ballet as a 13 year old boy? It it weird?

If this is what you want to do, you may have to take some teasing. There is no reason why you have to announce it to everyone is there?
And yes, boys can start this late and many do. For girls they need to really start by age 11. If you are thinking a career in ballet, you would need to study in a world class ballet academy. Pre-professional dancers take 20-30 hours of technique classes a week year round (more in the summer months.) You should audition for a top ballet academy if this is what you want. Competition, recital and graded ballet classes wont do. You may have to dorm at your academy and take your academics by arrangements there if you don't live close to one. Look for a feeder school to a professional ballet company for training. There is a summer intensive at CPYB where you send a picture but you don't have to audition. They take every level of dancer. You get an audition placement class once you get there. They can do this because they have over 20 levels. They call it "ballet boot camp". This would be a great way to learn good clean ballet technique. http://www.cpyb.org/summer-programs
Best of luck to you!

Dance? jazz a good choice?

I have done a few years of traditional ballet dance/ asian ballet with all the props and stuff... im not that advanced. i want to try jazz dance.... is it easy? im trying to pick up dance again because I think its a good way to get exercise. What are some pros and cons of jazz dance? what type of person would be good/bad at it? Thanks for the help!

Should I do tap, lyrical, or ballet?

Definitely ballet. The way that I choose my classes is by starting off with the core classes. Tap, Balleti and Jazz. After that I add any other classes I'm looking to take. Lyrical, Pointe, Hip Hop.

Since you consider yourself a Jazz dancer, both, Ballet and Tap would be helpful. Many dancers are able to experiment with Tap classes later on whereas good Ballet classes are harder to get into without earlier training.

I would definitely choose Ballet (even though I'm a tap dancer!) and then maybe see if I could take tap somewhere else. Good luck with your decision!

17 too old to start dancing?

I'm 17 years old and I can't do the splits and I can only do 2 pirouettes. I feel like I've lost all flexibility and I want to take up dancing jazz and tap (not professionally but because I love it!!! I am always watching youtube videos of dance and I even find myself choreographing things in my head that I can't even do but it looks so cool. Any tips? Whether it be about gaining flexibility or if it's too late?
