Should I Take Out Loans To Study In The Uk Or Do Travel Teaching

How can I make money while student teaching?

Hey! I was actually in the credential program to become a teacher (but then dropped out when i started subbing and got a real taste for teaching). My thought-process was the same as yours....save enough money to just pay for my car payment, gas, bare necessities....

I would say, obviously, NO JOB FOR YOU durning the weekday... you'll be burnt out by the time you get home from student teaching/grading papers. If you so desperately need a job, I would only consider a weekend job. If I were in your situation, I 100% would NOT even take a weekend job. Lets face it, at best, you'll get hired at target or something making close to minimum wage. You're already BEYOND busy and desperately need the weekend to recoup. I'm against taking out loans, but I would go to financial aid and ask if you can take out maybe a $2500 loan.

Is minium wage really worth it to you and giving up your only few days of rest worth the measly $500 you'll be making a month? Once you graduate, you'll be making money....you're in the last stretch. I assume you're also in the credential program too? You need to keep up your grades.... don't stress yourself to the max, please!

P.s. just curious why you say you need excellent grades to get a job? I had a 3.5 undergrad gpa and a 3.8gpa in the credential program......it's great i had those grades, but I knew they didn't really mean much unlike other programs....I knew that employers didn't really look at them and only cared that i had the credentials. Most likely when you start off teaching they're going to place you at the worst schools (because you don't have seniority) these are jobs i've substituted in...and even though we hear it's so hard to get teaching jobs, i assure you i hear the stories of many teachers quitting because it's "that bad" they are very desperate to get people in so aren't too picky :) Again, i guess it depends where you live.... I live in california.

Anyway, good luck! I could never be a teacher and have so much admiration for those going into it:) but yea....take a break, you're in the homestretch!

How much can I take out in student loans?

I'm going to school to become a lawyer and I am currently getting my associates at a community college but after that I was looking into transferring to Cornell University for law. I would need to take out a student loan. How much can I take out? Assuming that if I do actually become a lawyer I will be able to pay it back eventually.

How do you make money while student teaching?

Everyone says I won't be able to have even a part time job while student teaching. Well how am I suppose to do silly things like pay rent and eat?

Plus student teaching in my state is for a whole year (I don;t know if it is less time in other states). I have some money saved up and could probably make it last for 3 months, maybe even 6 if I cut a lot of corners. But 12 months with no pay check at all, I don't see how that is possible.

You teachers out there must have some ideas. So far all I have heard from people is mommy and daddy paid the bills (which is not an option for me) or student loans (which I would like to avoid since I am still paying them off for college).

What are people with $100,000 in student loan debt going to do?

Really, what are you going to do with you life if you have $100,000 or more in student loan debt? Unless your getting a degree to become a public school teacher, nurse or doctor, a degree is useless. Hell, you could start a business and make more then a doctor before the kid reaches residency!

You can get a job in a factory making $20 an hour at 19. I know people with MBA's that don't make that.

Lord help the ones that had to go to the private or even worse, out-of-state school for a degree in the liberal arts and know pay $1,500 per month just to satisfy interest!

What are you a $1,000 per month student loan payment that will only disappear with death? Add that $1,000 payment to a mortgage, credit cards and a car payment!!!!!!!!!!! Have a nice life living on the rest!

College has nothing to do with the real world, college is big business.

You want a high paying job: Start a business, learn how to be a salesman - litteraly and figuratively, don't be so damned naive and don't expect anything to be given for free. Learn how to think outside of the box and for yourself.

Can a teacher be a stripper?

I am an education major in my last year of college, and am strapped for cash. If I were to become a stripper for a short period of time, say, two months, would it bar me from being able to teach in the future? Like, does it show up on a credit report or background check, or would someone have to have seen me working there to know that I did it? I live in a mid-sized Southern city, and know several college girls who strip, but none are education majors. I'd consider doing it in a neighboring city on weekends just to get out of the bind I'm in , then never do it again, but am afraid of the career implications if it ever got out that I danced. Any one done this before or know someone who does?

I don't have much money, but I want to travel abroad. What are some good ways to do so?

This is one of the biggest misconceptions about traveling. Aside from the cost of a plane ticket, it is oftentimes actually CHEAPER to travel the world due to the cost of living differential (depending on which country you are from). A lot of this depends on where you are from, but if you are from the US/Canada/UK your best option is usually to Teach English as a Foreign Language. This is the most popular for young people who want to travel. Popular choices include South Korea, China, Vietnam, Thailand, and some South American countries like Chile, Argentina and Brazil. You can choose to line up a job before you leave, or you can make it work while you travel. Then you can also volunteer. Many places will cover your costs while you are there, but a lot of programs will also charge you. Do your research and there are PLENTY of volunteer options all around the world. Next option is to work at hostels/hotels/restaurants/bartend while you travel to break even. You can use websites like Workaway to make this happen. You can also take a trip to Thailand/Malayisa/Vietnam/Philippines and get certified as a SCUBA instructor. This will allow you to teach SCUBA while you travel. Then you can also do World Wide Opportunities on Organic Farm. Work on a farm and they will pay for your cost of living.  Options all over the world.Or if you want to work for a startup in India, Malaysia, Thailand, or somewhere else, try BrainGain. This is one of the more work intensive options but definitely a great way to get relevant career experience while traveling. I also have a friend who does blogging and content writing for companies while he travels. He emailed 1000 companies asking to do their blogging and content writing for them, around 200 emailed him back, and he's been backpacking the world for the last 4 years. There are other options as well, you just have to be resourceful and know how to hustle. Personally, I've taught English, volunteered, worked at hostels, and now started my own company. If you want it bad enough, you can make it happen. Don't let the illusion that you don't have money stop you :)

How can I get a sponsor to fund my travel and work abroad then pay later?

You can travel, stay and meet a ton of people for free using a website/ app called couchsurfing. It’s safe and exceptional for it’s purpose. We host multiple travelers from all around the world each week. When it comes to working while traveling there are tons of websites dedicated to that as well. We just had some “surfers” from Portugal who came to Canada using a program where they work and an organic farm in exchange for room, board and some spending money.
