Should I Work During College

How many hours should I work during college?

I worked all through school and found that 10-15 hours was the max I could handle and still get homework done and participate in extracurricular activities.
It's better to underestimate what you can handle and ask to take on more hours rather than get in over your head.

Should I work during my freshman year in college?

You and your parents need to prepare a detailed, four-year financial plan listing all the expenses of your schooling and identifying the source of funds required to meet those expenses. It is not uncommon to find a “financial gap” in these plans. To what extent do you intend to use student loans to fill that gap? (I strongly suggest you be very careful in taking out loans.)Another alternative is part time work by the student.Personally, I would try to avoid that in the freshman year if possible. Or, at least, try to avoid working the first semester until you “get your feet on the ground.”NoteThe Federal financial aid system doesn’t incentivize a student working. The FAFSA EFC calculation will reduce your need-based aid by 20% of your income. You also have to consider the taxes on income.

Not working during college?

So actually, I'm only 18. I've never had a job before. My parents didn't want me working in high school and now I am in college, for nursing. I have applied at 25 different places and haven't gotten one interview. I'm thinking of quitting the job search and just focusing on college because when I start the actual nursing program, it will be difficult. I still live with my parents and they support me. I'm going to school so it's not like I will be doing nothing. It it okay to be 21 and have never had a job before? I will eventually have nursing school experience and will probably do an internship/preceptorship. Would it be hard to find a job in Nursing when I graduate since I will have never held a minimum wage job?

Is it illegal to not work during college?

Is it not illegal if you don't work during college. However , it's essential that you should been a part of some kind of extra-curricular activity. Having a job while pursuing studies is just a cliche.I have recently completed my master degree in Software Engineering and I had a same question in my mind. But, when I talked to my advisor, he said - “It is important that you should join social groups in college and participate in various competitions. Even if you are supporting your professor in his/her research, you would have a better chance of getting a good job over other students”.When you appear for interviews after you get your college degree, almost every recruiter will ask your interest other than what you've learnt as part of your college degree. And if you don't have anything to say, recuruiter might think that you are not versatile and may not best fit for the growth of the company. Note, this is just my opinion because I've been in touch with many recruiters and some of them are very good friend of mine.Imagine there are 10 candidatss for the same job and 9 of them (except you) got an amazing resume which shows both, academic excellence and contributions in other activities. Why would anybody select you? The competition is very high these days and if you can't stand out, you would lose lot of opportunities.I would suggest, even if you are doing job, get indulge in some activities in your college. And, if you are in IT, try to make your GitHub profile as strong as possible.

Should I get a part-time job during college?

Ten hours per week is OK.

How many hours should you work at a job through college?

Ideally, you should fully focus on your studies.  So, it is a zero.  All other options depend on factors such as your goals, ability, nature of coursework, etc.  Students in the medical field, business, law and some other areas would greatly benefit from exposure to their field in the real world, and would actually learn a great deal from this exposure.  So, working in your field (including being an intern, a volunteer, or an apprentice) during studies can be very beneficial.  The most important part is making the work experience relevant to your studies.

How should I work on my college application during my gap year?

I, personally, do Not recommend a gap year Before applying to colleges.I recommend getting admitted to a college, and then working with the college to craft a fun and educational gap year, with a spot waiting for you at that college after the year.If you need an extra year to prepare, then spend $65,000 and enroll in a private US boarding school and use that to assist you in getting admitted to a fine university.
